I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This is a story about a girl and her twin unicorns. They are having a beach picnic when they see fish that need rescued from a net. Then they decide to clean up the trash on the beach and talk about how to make the world a better place.
While this story doesn't rhyme, it feels like it should. And I think I'd be more inclined to read it more times if it did. As it stands, I'll still be okay reading it a few times because it was a cute story and I like the overall message. The illustrations were very pastel.
Overall I give this book 3.87659 out of 5 stars.
I liked that this book was focused on explaining environmental issues that impacts our world in a easy to understand way for children. The illustrations were adorable and the story was engaging.
A reasonable, if flawed, early environmental book. Rosie and her two magical unicorn besties go for the day at the seaside, and have a wonderful time until much later on when they spot some fish caught in a drifting bit of net. I mean, I guess at least it's drifting – possibly the pesky three made a whole fisherman's family starve to death instead, in which case they're no heroes of mine. Anyway, when they finish rescuing the fish they suddenly realise the beach (that had been so pristine) and the sea are full of gunk and litter and suchlike. So they and (despite the beach also having been empty) lots of other well-minded people set to and make a difference.
So yes, this is positive in showing people actively doing something good for the environment, and pledging to carrying on protecting the nature around them after that day. But the story, in pitching so young, is full of all the issues and illogicalities I mentioned above, and in implying that you might need a pair of magical unicorns to clean the oceans perhaps not that greatly realistic a help after all. If you want the gaudy fantasy of this, well fine, but if you want to get small people thinking about important issues with logic and facts from a young age, this is only counter to that. I leave it with you.
This was a great story of friends working together to solve a problem! The illustrations were great and went along with the story very well. Our family enjoyed sharing this story together!
Josie, Johnnie, and Rosie take us along on an Ocean rescue. When a day of fun and relaxing at the beach takes a turn and a family of fish needs help, these three friends don't hesitate. This was a fun read. My kids love the beach and occasionally we can see some sea life, so reading about helping animals was a fun treat. The illustrations are cute and engaging, the kids loved taking time to see what they could point on from the pages.
#gifted I was gifted this book for free via netgalley in exchange for an honest book
I like the strong and soft pastel illustrations.
I felt the book had a bold obvious message about taking care of the environment, but it didn't feel forced. I found it endearing and beautiful.
I liked the main characters. I liked how it show that even though Josie doesn't have magical powers, she's is still able to make an impact as much as the magical twin unicorns.
It wpuld be nice to see what other adventures they go on.
I give this 4 stars
Friends out for a picnic see things that they can help with. There are fish trapped in a discarded net that they free and litter to pick up and put into containers. Everyone feels good for doing the right thing!
The illustrations by Brooke Beaver are cute, delightful, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on PDF from BooksGoSocial via NetGalley. Thank you!
The message of this book is great but I felt like the book was written for an older audience and illustrated for a younger.
The story:
In this story we follow the adventures of the girl Rosie, and her twin unicorns, Josie & Johnnie. They go on a journey to the beach, where they rescue a family of fish. After they have done so, they also notice how dirty the sand and sea is. They join with some other people to clean the beach up. Josie and Johnnie also use some unicorn magic to restore nature's beauty. The three make the world a better place than it was before. A story to show you that we really need to protect our precious earth.
The characters:
Josie, Johnnie and Rosie, are a close friend group. They do a lot of fun stuff together, and also help others when they need it. The two unicorns, Josie & Johnnie, have magic inside their horns. With that they can do fun things, and they also help the earth to become a better place for them and everyone else.
My opinion:
When I saw this book, it immediately grabbed my attention. The cover looked so cute, and everyone loves a bit of unicorn magic once in a while, don't we? At least I do, so I'm very happy I got to read this fun and cute book. Rosie and the unicorns are so lovely, and I loved reading this story about them.
The illustrations are beautifully made, and they have the best details and colors in them. They instantly grab your attention, and are also fun to look at. The text has also been put at good places, so that it doesn't mess up the illustration. The text is easy to follow, with nice words and sentence lengths.
The story is also nice to read about. We can all learn a bit about this trio. How they have a fun day on the beach, but also decide to save a family of fish. When they actually notice how dirty the beach and the sea are, they clean it with the help of some other friends and a bit of unicorn magic. They give out an important message that even the youngest children will understand. We share the earth with everyone around us, so let's all try to keep it clean.
Conclusion:
This picture book is a fun and cute read. It has beautiful art, and a well written text. It's easy to understand what the story is about, and the message it holds is very important. Even young children can learn a lot from that. The friend group is lovely to follow, and the unicorn magic also gives a bit extra to the beautiful story.
Let's finish with one of my favorite quotes from the book:
"Together we can accomplish anything."

Rosie is a little girl whose besties are twin unicorns, Johnnie and Josie. One day, the three friends plan an outing to the beach and head off with goodies galore to spend the day enjoying themselves.
When the trio end up unexpectedly helping a fish family trapped in a net, they realise that they need to help clean up the sea in order for all the creatures there to live safely, and also for everyone else to be able to enjoy the seashore without being subjected to the hazards of pollution.
This book provides a good way to teach young children important values about conservation, kindness and cooperation. The illustrations are nicely done, and it will be easy for young children to follow and enjoy the story.
“Josie, Johnnie and Rosie and the Ocean Rescue” by Michael Panzner is a heartwarming tale that beautifully emphasizes the significance of environmental conservation. Beautiful artwork and a lovely story! My 2.5 year old paid attention the entire time and liked pointing out different animals and shells on the beach since we just visited one this summer! I would definitely buy this for her and my nieces.
Josie, Johnnie and Rosie and the Ocean Rescue! is the fun & magical story of a girl named Rosie who goes on a picnic with her friends, twin unicorns Josie and Johnnie, near the beach. They are enjoying themselves when they realize there is a family of fish in trouble nearby, tangled up in a net. The trio saves the fish, but then realize that the beach and the water need to be cleaned up too.
This is a wonderful introduction for kids to environmental issues, taking care of our garbage, our beaches, and our water. These are important topics for our kids to learn about, and this beautifully illustrated happy story is a fantastic way for kids to learn that there are problems like this in the world, but there are also solutions to them, if we work together. Fun book for little ones!

Twin magical unicorns and their best friend Rosie head to the beach for a nice relaxing day, then suddenly they see how bad the beach looked, trash everywhere and fish caught in a net, together they know they must fix it.
Wonderful story, wonderful, I loved the message throughout about ensuring that the beach it is clean and safe and just picking up rubbish is a good place to start. I loved that the unicorns and Rosie wanted to make sure everywhere was cleaner and safer and didn’t stop until they finished. A really wonderful message to help encourage others to do the same.
Their friendship was sweet and I loved how they were playing and enjoying themselves first, making sweet sandcastles and enjoying their picnic. I liked that it’s bowed just an ordinary day before they noticed that bad things on the beach. The illustrations were really pretty I loved seeing all the animals throughout the pages.
A really wonderful and sweet story of caring for others, keeping beaches clean and safe for the animals, and also having fun and knowing when you’ve done a great job. It’s really sweet and a great book to read with your young ones to help them be mindful and that even they can help keep everything clean.
