This is a very interesting listen, its all about people who appear caring and decent commit murders in the most horrific way. The voice of the narrator is good as its a tiny bit creepy as in menacing - it covers centuries ago and more recent.
The narration had a rather monotonous voice. Each person has a startlingly short history. The fact that the entire section on Josef Mengele was about 2.5 pages long and only included 2 brief paragraphs of a glossed-over account of the crimes he performed left me in disbelief. Just more specifics, please. I would have preferred to hear more of each person's experience while having fewer stories. I enjoyed the quick read. Simply desired more depth! I felt like this book was too rushed with no preparation. If more information was included with fewer stories, it would have more potential for higher ratings.
I really enjoyed listening to this book. It felt very fast-paced and interesting. I would've liked a little more detail in each story, perhaps fleshing out the characters or murders a little bit more rather than stating "so-and-so killed so many people" etc.
As I was listening to this book I just kept thinking that the best way to describe it was 'bite-sized murders'.
I was a really big fan of the podcast 'Dr Death' which is about one instance similar to those described in this book and if you're a fan of reading/learning about that kind of thing this is certainly a good book to read.
Overall, I scored it 3.75 stars on Storygraph because it was interesting but nothing extremely special.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!
I was really interested in listening to this as I love true crime cases and find it scary and fascinating that some people who go into a profession meant to help people do so much harm.
Positive points - There were lots of cases in this and some I’ve not heard of before so definitely interesting.
Negative Points - Each case is only given a brief chapter so it not much information on each one just like a brief outline of what happened.
Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to listen to this ARC
A fascinating and terrifying peek into the history of murder and malpractice within medicine. The timing of this release is particularly poignant after the recent conviction of child murderer Lucy Letby.
This audiobook is almost listicle in style, each chapter named after another murderer, short and with key facts, revealing the callous nature of some people, whatever their motivation may be.
Personally I do not agree with calling people like this monsters, it makes them something ‘other’ when they are simply truly horrendous human beings, that for the most part blend into society.
This is a great book for an introduction on the subject, however if you are already au fait with this area of True Crime (as I am) you might find that you know most of the facts presented here.
The narrator is great and works well narrating this factual style of book.
Love true crime so was excited to listen to this audiobook. The audiobook is well narrated, with a likeable and easy to listen to narrator who had no difficulty maintaining my attention.
Overall four stars.
It did what it said on the tin, giving a rundown of many different angels of death killers. Well researched and expansive in scope, but not particularly well written or exciting.
The narrator voice was very monotone. At times the lavk of emotion made for difficult listening. . Every case was told so matter of fact and it felt lije too many xases were covered. Some could have done with more detailed. explanation A solid repetitive listen ideal for listener's lookkng for matter of fact info.
Thank you net gallery and publisher for my arc. 3 stars
