'The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers' is a story written by Samuel Burr that features one of my favourite narration styles - dual narration. The two characters the story focuses on are Pippa and Clayton, with Pippa's narration running parallel to Clayton's.
The story begins in the past (Pippa's narrative) with Clayton being left on the doorstep of Pippa's home - a community home which hosts 'The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers': a group of people who live together, bounded by their love of puzzles.
From Clayton's first narration (the present day) Pippa has just passed away, leaving a huge hole in his heart. This passing ultimately stirs his curiosity for information that he's subconsciously always wanted to know...Who are his parents?
Through the story Clayton goes on a journey, left with puzzles and clues from Pippa, to decipher the truth about his past and find out the truth. Pippa's chapters work alongside Clayton's to fill in information for the reader as the novel progresses.
Verdict
'The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers' is a very uplifting story that is humorous, exciting but also emotional to. I found the characters to be meaningful and being able to feel empathy and worried for a character is always the mark of a well constructed story!
I felt that the puzzle behind the story, the truth about Clayton's past, was very well constructed and I felt satisfied when I finally finished! I would highly recommend this to other readers out there!

Once again, many thanks to NetGalley and Orion Books for providing me with this copy of The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers in exchange for an honest review!
This is an ingenious book, eve if you aren’t into solving puzzles. A great backstory and even better the present time. Very clever and kept me guessing throughout, making it a great mystery. Samuel Burr’s characters are masterminds in their own right, but together they weld the story together. It’s not often that a writer produces an entirely fresh and novel book that’s entertaining and very enjoyable. I look forward to reading Burr’s next novel.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers Orion for this APC
A charming book about Clayton Stumper, who as a baby, is abandoned on the steps of The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers and is brought up by Pippa and the rest of the fellowship.
After her death, Clayton keeps thinking about his birth mother and where he came from and discovers Pippa has left several puzzles for him to solve to find the truth and to discover more about himself.
The book goes back and forth between the present and the past, where we learn how Pippa formed the Fellowship.
With a host of wonderful characters, this heartwarming book was an ode to love and friendship. I really enjoyed trying to solve the puzzles at the beginning of each chapter too!
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
A very heart warming book which provides the thrill of solving, as with a detective book, without the moral quandary of crime. I enjoyed seeing puzzles in their many varied forms and felt the characters really come to life as Clayton explores the world beyond the Fellowship and finds his own identity. Although the final denouement isn't a huge surprise, the pleasure is in the solving rather than the solution (as Pippa would say!).
Such a fun read, with well-drawn and fleshed-out characters, an intriguing plot and a love of puzzles thrown in. Quirky, different, well worth a look.
Clayton Stumper, now grown up and mourning the loss of his beloved adopted mother Pip, has never known where he came from. Abandoned as a baby at the home of the Fellowship of Puzzlemakers, even the surname they gave him reveals how much of a mystery his heritage is. Following Pip's death, he follows a series of clues left by her to help him learn more.
This book was absolutely wonderful. A beautiful story of love and friendship, every character was drawn as an individual rather than a series of quirks and I felt so drawn to them all. It's a lovely look at aging, loneliness, community and puzzling and Pip especially was a really fabulous character, as we see in flashbacks. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the author does next.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy in return for an honest review

Truly, the most joyous of books.
Clayton Stumper is abandoned at birth on the steps of a country house, owned and lived in by the Fellowship of Puzzlemakers. 25 years later he sets out to solve the biggest puzzle of all …. Who is he?
I really enjoyed reading this book, it was very easy to read. I especially loved all the characters and the fellowship in general, lovely reading overall.
Quirky, charming and heartwarming. I very much enjoyed spending time with the characters of the Fellowship
This was a gorgeous quirky read about Pip, a crossword compiler who decides to establish a fellowship of her fellow puzzle makers, and of Clayton who was left abandoned in a hatbox on the doorstep of The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers and raised by Pip. This is told in two time frames, predominantly this is Clayton’s story as, after Pips death, he decides to try discover more about his parentage assisted by some puzzles Pip has left him but it also tells Pip’s story starting with the very first fellowship meeting and continuing at key points in the organisations history. This is a charming tale with some fabulous and incredibly different characters, gentle humour and an appreciation of all types of puzzles. It’s original and uplifting and an absolute ode to not just friendship but fellowship.
