Another great heart-warming and emotional historical fiction which I thoroughly enjoyed. The main character, Flora, was rescued for poverty by the Stewart family but will her new and comfortable life continue or will the pull of her old life bring her back to reality?

This is such a wonderful read and the story, characters and setting will pull you into two worlds where you will follow Flora's life and story, the ups and downs and the emotion of a family from the past and an ew family from the present. This is a well written book that is enjoyable and believable. It is heartfelt and you fall in love with Flora and her courage and strength. I loved it and as always look forward to seeing what Dilly Court will write next.

Dilly delights us again with a lovely story.
A lovely, description of characters but not too many.
The main character Flora is delightful and strong.
Reading a Dilly court book is like putting on an old, loved pair of slippers. The story just sailed along enveloping you in its warmth.

One of my favourite authors and dilly has not disappointed with this new read, as always dilly’s books draw you in and make you part of the story itself, great storyline and amazing characters what more could you want apart from a cuppa to go with it

I thoroughly enjoyed this new novel.

A really enjoyable read. After suffering abuse at the hands of her relatives year old Flora has a lucky escape when she is taken in to be a companion for Annabelle and they become like sisters as she settles into a loving family,but she will have to overcome many problems before she can find happiness.As the story progresses we get to find out more about Flora's early life and how she came to be living in such terrible conditions and she finally gets to find out about her background. A super read with plenty of different characters to keep your interest

As with all of Dilly Court's books this did not disappoint! Held my interest to the end with lots of twists and turns throughout. Only downside was that it was rather obvious 85% into book as to what was going to happen. Still didn't take anything away from story.

Enjoyable but not one of her best, I don't think. I found it a little slow in places, but Dilly Court is a wonderful storyteller and creates characters that are very likeable. No doubt her legion of fans will adore the book and it is worth reading.

Really enjoyed reading this story of determination though there were some awful steps of poverty and abuse but at the end of the day coming out smelling of roses or did she?. It recounts the story of a young lady who is rescued from the horrors of the East End in the 19th Century by a well to do family but then gets caught up by those who are not only jealous but determined to wreck her life. She manages to escape and then ..... you'll have to read it to find out.

Another delightful story from Dilly Court. It is always so easy to identify with her characters and become involved in the story. This one once again brought out the best of the characters, leaving a great basis for a follow on.

Another great saga from this fantastic author. My go to favourite for holiday reading. The slums of Londons and our heroines determination to survive are an inspiration. Flora is a 6yr old at the beginning of this story and we follow her as she becomes a strong young lady.

Love this book. Great read and easy to follow characters and keep you interested. I do like this type of book especially when it’s so well written.

Dilly Court's novels are always a travel into another age and life affirming. The detailed and well researched historical background, her strong willed and resiliant heroine always keep me turning pages and root for the characters

Another great read from Dilly Court.This is the story of Flora Lee who is sold by her aunt and uncle to Sir Arthur and Lady Stewart at the age of 6 and becomes companion too there daughter Arabella who is about the same age as Flora. Flora then grows up and we see all the twists and turns that happen too her. I loved this book as even Rockwood is mentioned.Thank you to Netgally and HarperCollins UK.

It was very well written, some of the characters you liked, yet some not so much.

I highly recommend this book.

Have read most of Dilly Court's book and they all are exceptional and so is The Lucky Penny. Following Flora Lee from 6 years old up until adulthood and everything that comes in between . What she wishes to do with life who she wants to marry and importantly who her real parenta are. A touchy story very much looking forward to next book. Thankyou for advanced copy.

This is my second book by the author and very different from the previous one even though they were both saga type books.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one, it was well written - though as is often the case with sagas I found the end slightly rushed.
My only niggle was that Bella went out in Flora;s shawl and was snatched but we never found out why she went out other than perhaps to get a new hat.

There were likeable characters, less likeable ones and ones that you would cheerfully have dealt with oneself they were so abhorrent.
All in all a great read

I've only read a few books by this author, but I absolutely love everything about her books. She draws you into the lives of the characters so effortlessly.

Flora, aged 6, is bought by the Stewart’s as a sister/companion for their daughter. She was saved from her cruel uncle and aunt from a life of begging. She was given a lovely life and wanted for nothing. The storyline then moves to her adult years, where although she's been educated, she doesn't quite fit in the society life she's been living.

I just loved watching her go about life with determination to do her best at everything and how everything pieced together. I can't wait to read more by this author.

Another truly special book from Dilly. I would highly recommend it- lots of wonderful characters and some not so wonderful! Warm and touching with friendship and romance in the mix. Flora was found as a young child after a ship went down and had a hard life with the people who found her, but life was to eventually take an unexpected turn.
