Another fantastic book from Dliiy Court. Following the life of Flora Lee a young woman who as a child had been taken by the Stewart family from a couple who had brought Flora up believing she was their child. A lot of twists and turns which you can’t describe in a few sentences. An easy 5* Thanks to Dilly and her publisher. Thanks also to NetGalley

When the story starts, we meet six year old Flora who lives in poverty with her evil Aunt and Uncle. To scratch a living, they use little Flora as a pickpocket. One day in London, they chance upon the wealthy Stewart family with their daughter Arabella who is a similar age to Flora. A deal is struck and the Stewarts agree to take on Flora as a companion for Arabella.

Living the life of a lady and gaining an education we are introduced to a varied cast of characters as life for Flora takes a few twists and turns.

I have read a few Dilly Court books previously and this one was another enjoyable read leaving you wondering where the story was going to take you next.
Thoroughly enjoyable.

Flora is forever grateful for the day the Stewart family rescues her from her life of poverty on London's streets. Adopted as on of their own, she shed her rags and was finally given a place to call home.

Flora Lee was just six years old when her aunt and uncle sold her to the wealthy Stewart family as a companion for their daughter, Arabella. But life doesn't go as she first thought it would. Flora has been brought up in a life of luxury, but then things start to go horribly wrong.

Dilly Court is one of my go-to authors. I don't even read the premise, I just request it, because no matter what the story is about, I know I won't be disappointed. There's a good mix of drama and characters in this coming of age story. It's well-written, believable, and hard to put down. There were some characters that make an appearance from previous books. This is another fabulous read.

Flora is a 6 year old child who has a hard up bringing, living with her Aunt and Uncle who have taught her to pick pocket, she is a waif who is starving.

When she is taken in by the Stewart’s to be a companion for their daughter Arabella Flora’s life changes for the better, with all the luxury and opulence of a wealthy family, but as Flora gets older she realises she will need to do something for herself as she has no money and she has been brought up to be a lady.

This is a coming of age story with Flora having to delve into her past and work out where she will go in the future.

Great mixture of characters with a interesting storyline and smaller stories intertwined within it, well written and a compelling read.

The Lucky Penny by Dilly Court.

Is Dilly Court really about 20 people because I don't know how she has so many fantastic stories in her to write about !

Flora is forever grateful for the day the Stewart family rescued her from her life of poverty on London’s streets. Adopted as one of their own, she shed her rags and was finally given a place to call home.

When a twist of fate calls her back to the cobbles, Flora’s new life is torn apart.

Brilliant plot , fantastic characters and the best out there for books of this genre.

Young Flora Lee think she has woke up in heaven, the day Sir Arthur Stewart rescues her off the street and out the clutches of wicked Gert and Syd Fox who say she was their niece. The contrast couldn’t be more different. Instead of scraping and thieving her every whim is catered for. That is until Miss Gough gets her hands on her when teaching Flora and the young Miss Arabella. The girls are brought up like sisters although Flora never feels like she really knows who she is.

While living with the Stewart’s she prefers their country house “Nine Oaks” where she counts the young gardener Daniel as a friend, and misses him when they go back to London to live. Arabella can be rather spoilt and demand her own way, Flora gives in for peace.

When misfortune strikes Flora is ever grateful to Ted and Coralie Tulliver for rescuing her. Will she ever escape the likes of Ralph Pettigrew and the Fox’s.

There is a great selection of characters, so vividly depicted. My favourite character was Freddie who was so lovable.
Its was lovely to see characters from the Rockwood series.
I just fell into this book from the beginning. Recommend it.

Just love Dilly Court and have read all her books. The Lucky Penny was just a lovely read and I read it in one day. Love the story of Flora and the circumstances that save her from people who she believes are family, who treat her terribly. I love the fact that Rockwood and the Carey’s come into the tale and for one character from past books I just wanted to put the flags out as this person so deserved some happiness.
My thanks as always to NetGalley and to Harper Collins UK for the early read.

One of my favourite authors and yet again Dilly does not disappoint.
Another superb historical saga which grabs you from the very first page.
This is a story of from rags to riches about a young girl called Flora who at six years old in an act of kindness was rescued by a wealthy couple and their daughter from the clutches of her cruel aunt and uncle.
Taken into the family home and treated as a companion and sister to their daughter Flora is raised as a young lady but as an adult finds it difficult to find her place in society and goes on a journey to find out who she really is.
This is so good I just couldn’t put it down and read it in one day.
