I loved the title of this book and hoped it would as good as it sounded. In fact, it was amazing. A lovely, cosy read for those autumn nights. Thank you for the ARC.
Another great novel from Beth, she always delivers and so she has with this one. Plenty of emotions, great characters and well designed settings. Well done Beth. 5 stars
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
I live Beth’s books and was delighted to be approved to read her latest.
Sophie is closed off from most of the world, moving her motor home and dog from job to job. Her work in helping families sort out everything after a family member has died kept her busy without needing to commit long term to a house or family of her own.
But everything changes one day when Sophie has to choose between two jobs on offer…..and taking the intriguing one, heads off to meet her new boss Hattie. So just what changes are in store for Sophie?
I was glued to this book. I love Beth’s writing and thoroughly enjoyed reading about Sophie and her life.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review.
Another great read from Beth, I love her books and this one delivers from page one. A dual time line which I love and this book had not only romance but also a little sadness. The ending couldn't have been more perfect. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
The cover of the book was a bit misleading to me, since it's not Christmas or holiday related at all, but the description is on point! I enjoyed learning the backstore of the property with the flashbacks to Hattie's past. There was a lot of therapy talk and personal trauma, but it was nice to read how the characters worked through that.
Sophie Potter travels the country in her motor home while running her business of packing and sorting estates. When Hattie Langford asks Sophie to help organize her belongings, she agrees even though Hattie is far from dead. Sophie moves into Riverbend in Sherwood Forest. She meets Sophie’s friends and neighbors and becomes enchanted with the village and the people. As she helps Hattie go through her ancestors things, Hattie tells her the stories of Riverbend and all the tragedies that have befallen it’s female residents over the years. I especially liked their stories being interwoven with present day events. This was truly a charming read. I thank NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read this ARC.
One of Beth Moran's best books.
This is a beautifully written story which grabs you from the beginning. It has relatable characters that you care about, a vividly described setting and a storyline that remains interesting and engaging throughout. I would recommend this book.
Loved this book!
I absolutely loved this beautiful book! Sophie has lost everything, family and her ability to do her job, which she loved, all in one instant. She’s changed careers, performing a much-needed role but a depressing one, assisting families with clearing out their loved ones belongings after death.
She takes on a different type of contract, complete with an airtight NDA, helping a famous artist setting her affairs in order. But before long she’s ingrained in the local community, has new friends and finds herself falling in love with Gideon. All the deceptions are wearing her down, and eventually Hattie tells her the rest of her story.
This book is written in flashback style, in between real life. Hattie is a 55 year old who becomes Sophie’s friend and a mentor of sorts. There’s plenty of women supporting each other and strong family ties. As secrets are revealed, they turn out to not be as devastating as believed all along.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
I loved 'Because You Loved Me' (reviewed earlier this year), so when I saw Beth had another book out, also set in the Sherwood forest, I had to read it. Dipping between past and present, we gradually gain heartbreaking insights into both Sophie, our protagonist, and her boss Hattie's lives and discover the therapeutic power of friendship. I loved the setting and the way the story was crafted. I cared about the characters and felt compelled to keep reading. For me, it ticks all the right boxes - relatable characters, family secrets, emotional healing, and a bit of romance.
This was an amazing book where the writing was phenomenal, the characters were great and it was overall a great time.
Beth does a great job at making her books feel like an escape from the real world while being set in the real world. I think that is my favorite part of her books. Because as much as I love her character, it’s how she makes them face real life challenges like they are real life people that is my favorite thing.
I can not wait to read the next one!!
I really enjoyed this story and it was such an easy book to read too! Each chapter gently pushed me along to the next one and i flew through the pages really quickly just so that i could find out how everything turned out.
This was such an emotional book and i found that my feelings were on a bit of an emotional roller coaster! I laughed, i cried and honestly felt everything else in between i think!!
Take Me Home was such a heartwarming story that covered love, loss, real life and that all important friendship too.
Such a heartwarming story and i really enjoyed it…….
Beth Moran really knows how to write an emotional story, and her latest novel is no exception. Sophie uses her nomadic lifestyle/occupation to continue running from the fear of losing anyone else she loves, and I was immediately taken with her story and ready to accompany her through her redemption and growth. I fell for Harriet almost as hard and even more quickly, ready to immerse myself in the story of her past and the mystery of her present and future. The relationship between Sophie and Harriet is the one I was the most invested in, hoping their connection would become a friendship and quickly getting that wish. I will say that the actual romantic aspect of this book, between Sophie, and Harriet’s cousin Gideon, was a little underwhelming to me, and I found I cared the least about that aspect of the story. It was basically insta-love and didn’t have much emotion in it overall if I’m honest. I was much more invested in Sophie’s personal growth as far as friendship (I loved the Gals, who embraced her basically immediately, despite her supposedly just being an employee of Harriet’s), and letting herself be happy once again. I loved Harriet’s re-telling of her past and the way it all came back around to her- the wrapup to her tragic childhood backstory is extremely satisfying. I loved the way the author weaved the story of her past into the current story, and it felt like we got two books in one.
The third act conflict was predictable from the start, of course, as Sophie is forced to lie to Gideon about her position and what she’s doing for Harriet, along with keeping all of her revelations a secret as well, but it was still frustrating when it all came to light, and the aftermath of the entire situation. I did think the author handled it really well and it was satisfying in the end, but maybe my lack of full commitment to the Sophie-Gideon storyline made me a little more impatient about the whole thing.
This is a beautiful story about two women coming to terms with the past in order to live fully in the present, and the importance of friendships and human connection in order to do so. I felt lighter and more full after being a part of their story, and highly recommend this one- as long as you are not looking for a romance.
One other note- I thought this was a Christmas story based on the cover, but it takes place from February through the summer, so don’t be fooled like me and add this to any kind of holiday tbr! Moran’s Christmas book, Let It Snow, will satisfy your Christmas needs.
Sophie chooses to keep on moving and never set down roots, but it may be that meeting Hattie changes everything.
this novel is about family, friendship and healing, I love how Morgan gives us characters with depth to their back story giving us heartwarming stories throughout this main narrative.
this is an author I will pick up and read without hesitation every time, and one I would highly recommend,
Moran writes the best books and they've all been five star reads for me, so I knew Take Me Home was going to be a surefire winner before I'd even opened the book!
It's a beautiful story of loss, love and learning to let go of the past and not letting it darken your future.
I loved Sophie and I do like the sound of the job she does. I'm always for helping others deal with the darker moments life brings, but can never seem to apply this to my own life. The supporting cast of characters were wonderful and Hattie, and her story of Riverbend was fascinating, yet emotional.
And the book wouldn't have be complete without romance - meet Gideon, Hattie's cousin, who just happens to be looking for love...
Heartwarming, enjoyable and an absolute delight to read.
I’m torn between three and four stars. I’ll say 3 1/2. I’ve read this author before and enjoyed it. This one felt different. It had more angst, and very little feel good to it.
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. The cover leads to think you’re getting a feel good Christmas story. That’s not what this is.
The author is very gifted so it’s extremely well written. It definitely reads like women’s literature. If those are the books you look for then you love this. It pulls out all the feels.
I have read all of the author’s books and this one was one of my very favorites. Beth Moran writes lovely, feel-good books that end wonderfully. I am pretty sure I always have a smile on my face as the books draw to a close. Sophie — the main character — lives the life of a nomad avoiding attachments except for her dog. With the help of Hattie she may be ready to love again. Heartbreaking and romantic. An all around delightful book that makes you want to travel to the UK and find these amazing people.
Beth Moran has done it again! She has delivered a superb story that touches the heart, evokes emotions, and feels like a warm cozy blanket! And the characters are always adorable, even some of the ones you are supposed to dislike. I discovered Beth Moran on NetGalley and I have been a diehard fan ever since!
This story tells the reader about Sophie who has experienced a pretty devastating loss. As a result, she keeps to herself, never putting down roots and always moving on from one job to the next. But then she meets Hattie. Hattie needs to get out her own story in order to heal. Throw in Hattie's family, some new friends, and before long Sophie is questioning her nomadic lifestyle.
Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
I really enjoyed the last Beth Moran book I read so I was really looking forward to this one but sadly I just didn't get on with it at all, I found it really slow and struggled at times.
So sorry, but this one wasn't for me.
Hattie Hood begins telling her story to Sophie, who is like the family historian. It's hard to maintain interest when one has traveled so far in time. So some details were lost about me. The lyrics are very emotional and beautiful so you don't have to worry about getting lost for long. Sophie's problem is trying not to get too emotional. She also has a family history. If you don't mind hearing about other people's pain and remembering your own emotional pain, this is the book for you. It's a book that made me cry in many places and laugh out loud in many places, it covers so many different aspects. . It focuses on heartbreak, love, friendship, health and more.
Sophie is a lovely character and I root for her as she begins to find herself. I also love her collaboration with Hattie.
I read Beth Moran's Let It Snow previously and absolutely loved it, so I couldn't wait to dive into this!
Unfortunately it was a DNF at 20%.
The story is incredibly slow going and it struggled to keep me interested for more than a few words at a time.
Sorry it just wasn't for me.
