In this short volume, Carlo Artemi explores science and the scientific method in a way that is easy to understand for readers with little or no previous knowledge of the subject. What is science and how does it relate to other fields, as far removed as politics, art or even religion? There are many anecdotes from famous, and not so famous people. He includes a few equations and some other more complicated concepts but, except for those parts, the rest of the content is approachable to every reader. My only issue was with the translation, which complicated some of the chapters for me. The subject matter is not too easy and the use of language made me doubt whether I understood correctly what the author was really saying. For instance, the use of the word “magician” as someone who believes they practice magic, to which I could only think of Penn Jillette telling his audience how his tricks are just that. It’s silly but, when you’re discussing science, these misunderstandings are harder to clear up. Other than that, I enjoyed and learned a lot.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, #NetGalley!
