I have never read anything by this author, but I will be looking out for other books they write in the future. I really enjoyed the story as well as the pacing of the story.

I enjoyed this story though it did feel a bit slow. Police officer Fiona stumbles upon a dead body and everyone in her group is a suspect. The plot twist was great and unexpected. I dont know the backstory but something happened to her parents and the case has gone cold, Fiona lives with some guilt that she cannot solve the case.

The Shelter is book three in the Fiona MacLeish series. In this book she finds herself in a storm at the Scottish Highlands with a group of hikers and another murder case. A case that starts out has an accident but clearly there is a killer in the group. But who is it?

I love a story that is set in a good snow storm. Personally I am not a fan of snow at all. It’s cold and it’s dangerous. And I would rather stay in the house where I’m safe. But this isn’t the case at all for Fiona. When we follow a locked room who dun it story. Smith makes you feel right there in the story and sets the scene perfectly with his cold crisp descriptions. Making you feel right there in the story.

I couldn’t put it down and read it in a day. The Shelter is full of twists and turns and will having you guessing until the end. It will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat with all the tension.

For me the first two books are tasters of what’s to come and then Smith throws everything into The Shelter making this one the best in the series. I absolutely loved everything about it……this book is a must read.

A Fiona MacLeish Crime Thriller.
This is the 3rd book in this series. I have previously ready books 1 and 2 and enjoyed them. ~This thriller was no different. Really an enjoyable read.
If there is one thing I could certainly say about the writing of this book is that the author certainly knows what the readers want.
Thrilling and exciting. This read will keep you on the edge the whole way thorough.
I do feel a little sorry for Fiona as she always seems to be in the thick of things, why can't she just enjoy a couple of days off. Does she attract trouble. Maybe it's just because she's so good at what she does.
Out for a hike (maybe a book club would be less stress for Fiona) With Friends Fiona stumbles upon another group of people in trouble. Set in the Scottish mountains this thriller sets off at pace and holds it the whole way through.
Bravo G N Smith, and Bookouture this was an absolute pleasure to read and more so being able to read the three books back to back.
Will certainly keep you entertained, get stuck in to reading these 3 books.

Fast paced, full of tension and a real page turner. Left me on the edge of my seat and kept me guessing, incorrectly, all the way through

Just as stellar as the other books in this series, I couldn't put this book down. Sure to keep you guessing until the very end, this is one book I won't be forgetting any time soon.

I really enjoyed this! It has a lot of twists and turns and is quick paced. It's very atmospheric and is written where you feel as if you're right there with the characters which was awesome! The third book in the Fiona MacLeish series set in Scotland finds her on a mountain in dangerous conditions with a group of people with secrets; after a sudden death, she realises it wasn't an accident and again finds herself in danger as she tries to discover the guilty party. The atmospheric and menacing setting is immersive, and introspection gives way to adrenaline-fueled action as the story progresses. I like the page-turning suspense, the untamed setting and the immersive investigation.

While I haven't read the first two books in the Fiona MacLeish series, I'm planning to now! This book is a great winter mystery -- a scream on a snowstormy day begins this mystery. G.N. Smith has some great characterization and really makes a page turner. I'll definitely check out the first two books!

Love this book and this series. Enjoyed this one so much. tense, brilliantly plotted. a real pleasure to read. i whizzed through it in one sitting. Very highly recommend this series and especially this book.

I was not too keen on this book to start off with, stuck upon a mountain in the snow , Fiona (the policewoman) decides that a man has been murdered. When going either up or down the mountain is deemed too dangerous, the group shelter in a shepherds cottage. Hoping to get help, Fiona and others start to make their way down the mountain. Not once, but twice. There are a couple more deaths .
Besides the foolhardiness of being on a Munroe mountain in the depths of winter , with less than optimal physical condition, the drawn out thoughts of what Fiona determined had happened, based on feelings and little physical evidence did not really make for exciting reading. However after the half way mark, there was more action and the pace picked up. My interest was aroused and I enjoyed the last third of the book .

A good solid thriller but Fiona Macleish find herself in the same position as the last two book. Good characters with an isolation plot with a killer amongst them. I received this book from Bookoutre and Netgalley for a review.

Police woman Fiona MacLeish is having a bit of downtime. Along with her friend Donna & Jack Donna's husband they are climbing a Monroe near Loch Fyne. However on the way down, the weather looks like it is taking a turn for the worst. They meet up with another group of 'Monroe Baggers' when there is a yell as someone falls - & meets his death. The other group are all connected with an upmarket hotel. The faller is the owner. As weather shows no sign of improving the group head towards a bothy. Fiona discovers that the victim didn't fall- he was murdered & once again she finds herself cut off by the weather with a killer in their midst.

The author does an amazing job at creating the setting for these stories. I felt I needed to put on an extra jumper! I have enjoyed the previous two books in the series but I found Fiona being in the same situation a third time a bit herd to accept. The whodunnit bit kept me guessing though! I would like to read more about Fiona but I think she needs a change of format now.

The Shelter is the third book in the Fiona MacLeish crime series and I am really loving this series. This one has a great setting and interesting characters who all seem to be full of secrets and lies. It can be read as a stand alone book but I recommend reading the previous books as they were also so good.

This is the third book in the Fiona MacLeish series and I think it’s the best one yet, I’ll tell time why below.

This is one is the perfect book to read during the winter months, it’s so atmospheric, you’ll want to head to a snowy Scottish mountain asap or maybe not after you’ve read it but I certainly did.

It’s the same format as the previous ones, Fiona is alone and is the only law enforcement when a murder is committed, she’s got no back up and is isolated on a mountain, she has to use all her skills to painstakingly uncover the truth and I just loved uncovering the truth right alongside Fiona.

I hope we get more and more of this series and more people get to love it as much as I do.

The settings are beautiful a isolated cabin in a snowstorm and are described vividly. The incidents kept me trying to guess what would happen next and I could feel the tension throughout. I also could feel the fear of not knowing what would happen. I felt my heart racing the whole time. A book that you don't want to miss!

The Shelter is the third in the Fiona MacLeish series. It's a series that I've been on board with from book one and I would definitely recommend you give them all a read. Although saying that it can read as a standalone, but for further context...don't miss out!

Set in Scotland, you knew things were going to get bumpy when snow was mentioned. Can you imagine being trapped in a snowstorm, in a shelter, atop a mountain, with a killer on the loose?

It's a slow starter that builds up into a pacey thriller as the heat hots up and it's time to catch a killer.

Having previously enjoyed the last two books I'm enjoying the character development in MacLeish and am already anticipating book four.

Thrilling, compelling and full of suspense, The Shelter is definitely one to recommend and G.N. Smith an author to look out for.

Our Fiona MacLeish was back! We knew when she’s here, which meant someone was in trouble.

A huge snowstorm was hitting the Scottish highlands, not only a scream caught Fiona interest, also a person in a group missing. Lucky enough, Fiona and the group of hikers stayed in the shelter. Fiona asked questions, until she realised everyone was hiding secrets. The murderer was among them.

I was always drawn into the theme of isolated place with a group of people, a body and loads of secrets. It kept me guessing who’s lying and why. The relationships among these people needed to be untangled.

Fiona MacLeish was one of my favourite fictional characters. Strong, brave and intelligent. Could not wait to have more cases solved by her.
