I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This book was basically a parody of the story of Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer where Mothman helps Santa deliver presents. It could theoretically be sung to the same tune probably, but it often doesn't rhyme and the cadence doesn't always work (and I tried singing it).
Because this book had me laughing several times, I would definitely be okay reading it several times, even in a single holiday season. The illustrations were bold and bright, and they included some fun Easter eggs for adults reading the book with their kids.
Overall I give Mothman's Merry Cryptid Christmas 4.7639 out of 5 stars.
This was super cute! My daughter recently became intrigued by cryptids and Mothman is definitely high on the list of favs so a Mothman Christmas story? A must! The illustrations were fantastic and the store was perfect. This will definitely be a repeat read for us each holiday season!
I didn't enjoy it as I hoped, maybe I was expecting something completely different both in plot and style.
Look. They knew what they were doing writing this book. Sure it’s marketed as a book for children but we all know it’s secretly for us queer cryptid-obsessed autistics. We’re the backbone of this cryptozoology community.
This is such an adorable little book and takes the two things I love most and combines them: Mothman, and short stories. This is 100% going in all my friends’ Christmas gifts next year, and will become a yearly festive reread.
Mothman's Merry Christmas is an adorable Christmas story that combines the magic of the holiday season and the eerieness of Mothman. Together, they're perfect.
A fun little picture book featuring Mothman. When Rudolph can’t guide the slay, who can help other than everybody’s favorite cryptid with red, glowing eyes?
Mothman's Merry Cryptid Christmas is a wonderful holiday tale for all of the spooky ghouls young and old. I also enjoyed the illustrations.
Delightful AND sweet! I love Cryptids, and the spin this author takes is heartwarming. Forget scares and chills; be inspired!
Decent book! Perfect for fans of cryptids and parents of kids who love cryptids! I don’t have any problems with this book, but I wasn’t really entertained by it.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
Loved this book! It makes me so happy that Mothman is becoming more popular and we can have a Christmas story for the kiddos. Super cute and great seasonal read for kids!
Amazing!!!!! So cute, funny, and just overall precious as hell. Loved it so much. Need more picture books about cryptids asap
Fun little book, based upon Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer, takes a turn in the scarey direction. The pictures enhanced the experience. My son enjoyed it, too, but we both thought it was a little to short.
Mothman isn't what you'd expect for the subject of a picture book, especially at Christmas, but this one is a lot of fun. It's silly and cute. Fun for the off-beat reader.
An adorable update to a holiday classic, with the perfect dose of many people's favorite cryptid, Mothman!
I've been waiting to read this with two of my coworkers who love stories involving cryptids. We finally got the chance to read it together! They enjoyed a storytime, presented by this former children's librarian, in which we all laughed in delight at the story and illustrations. A fun holiday read (that is NOT ripping off Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer lol).
Thanks to Netgalley and 8th Circle Press for the ARC of this!
Cute take on Rudolph with cryptids, especially Mothman, as the main characters. This is a fun addition to Christmas books that will definitely stand out from the rest.
This book is so fun and the illustrations are so cute! It doesn’t quite fit to the tune of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, but there is definitely a cadence to it! I love that Mothman is the hero of the story and it features other well-known cryptids.
I have friends who love cryptids and I will absolutely be telling them about this one! I could easily see it being a fun addition if the same Christmas stories are read each year too!
Thank you to 8th Circle Press and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was everything I could have wanted from a Christmas book about Mothman! I loved every second of it and the art style is adorable.
A cute holiday story with the most adorable little cryptid you'll ever meet. Great for kids of all ages!
This was super cute! It was short, I definitely would have loved way more to the book bot for being what it was, I enjoyed myself. Mothman is such a fun character and if my nieces would have sat down to listen to a book, I would have read this to them but they're buttheads. A+!
