Katelyn’s 36th birthday party has just ended and the house is a mess. A day later she wakes up in the hospital with her husband, Toby, sitting by her side. She has lost her memory of the party and keeps forgetting what she has been told. The doctors call it Transient Global Amnesia. Although it should be temporary, she may never remember her birthday party. Toby reassures her that their daughter, Harper, 3, is safe with his mum.

Leah is Katelyn’s best friend and has been since they were children. Leah is divorced from Aaron and has just been fired from her high-powered job. She is still close with Katelyn and loves her daughter, Harper. She wants a family of her own just like Katelyn’s.

This story is tense and kept me biting my nails as I sat on the edge of my seat. I was so scared in spots that I didn’t even want to finish the book for fear of what I might read. However, I did and it was a breath-taking ending! Enjoy!

A story about friendship, marriage, trust, jealousy, forgiveness and revenge.

Leah and Katelyn have been friends since they were kids. Katelyn had an alcoholic, emotionally abusive mother, and so Katelyn was treated almost like Leah's sister by Leah's family.

They are now 36 years old, and it is Katelyn's birthday. Leah has lost her job, got divorced, and is living in a small rental, without any savings or job prospects. Katelyn, however, is happily married to Toby, Leah's ex-boyfriend, and has a beautiful litte daughter and a lovely home.

The night of the party, something happens that causes Katelyn to end up in the hospital, with no recollection of what happened at the party. she is diagnosed with Global Transient Amnesia (TGA), most likely brought on by stress. But stress about what? She just can't remember!

Also, Leah, Toby, and Aaron (Leah's ex-husband and Toby's BFF) are all acting weird around her and she can't help but feel that there is something crucial that she doesn't remember about that night.

I liked the premise, but the TGA angle felt a bit too far-fetched and contrived. I prefer books with a limited number of characters, and this has that. There were a few other things that I just found hard to swallow, though. The motives for Aaron's actions did not seem logical or believable. Also, why would a person go to the edge of a cliff to discuss an issue with a person whose motives they do not trust?

There are quite a few soap-opera-ish moments like this, but if you're willing to accept it for what it is, then it's quite a page-turner, and makes you want to know what happens NEXT!!

This is a great book! Secrets, deceit, lies, trauma, etc. I enjoyed the alternating point of views. The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat till the very end! This was my first Nicole Trope book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't wait to read more of her books!

I had a hard time reading a book in 3rd person but, you do get a really good dive into TAG. I found some of it to be repetitive but, overly it was fun!

I wanted to like this! It started off so promising, with the mystery propelling you to keep reading to find out what caused Katelyn to lose her memory at her birthday party, why her husband is lying about it, and the tension with Kate's best friend Leah. In the beginning, the friendship dynamic between Katelyn and Leah was intriguing, too.

But the story quickly got repetitive, which is quite a feat, considering how short the tale is. The revelations came after a bit too much foreshadowing, unfortunately ruining the element of surprise. And the ending seemed a bit too contrived, and had the characters acting in ways that felt very unrealistic.

That being said, the book kept me intrigued enough to keep reading and I finished it in only two days.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

i had a really hard time getting into this book in the beginning. while it starts with the whole mystery, it was a little confusing and i couldn’t really follow along. it took me a bit to actually start to get interested in the story (around the 35% mark) and even though i read the whole thing, it wasn’t my favorite.

honestly, i found myself skimming large parts of text and forcing myself to get through it.

there was a bit of a twist, but honestly it kind of fell flat. there could have been so much more done with it to plump up the story as a whole or just the twist. even the ending was very anti-climactic.

all in all, it wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t my favorite. was it worth the read? debatable. would i read it again? once is enough.

thank you to netgalley and nicole trope for this arc 🤍

Rounded up from a 3.5
This book was definitely interesting. I don't think I read a thriller with so many twists, which was new for me, but it did get to a point where there were so many twists it just became completely overdone. The characters were interesting, and the author did a great job making certain ones incredibly unlikable. I would've liked to see more of a concrete storyline. The timeline skips made sense, and going back in the future, it felt like some chapters were very repetitive and took away from the development of the plot.

This one is described as a soap opera which I would have loved. But I found the plot to be kind of boring. This one had potential but didn’t really hook me !

oh em gheeee!!!

Can you believe Nicole Trope, has given us back to back FIVE star reads?!?!?!

Im exaggerating, Im not shocked, its to be expected. Nicole Trope, is, THE, queen of thrillers!

After I read, The Truth About the Accident, I knew that I was hooked on Trope.

The Day After the Party, has truly broke the mold. I am not sure how Trope will be able to surpass this one but if anyone can do it, its her.

This book right here is top 5 !

The perfect birthday or the perfect nightmare?

Katelyn smiles around at her husband and friends, gathered to celebrate her thirty-sixth birthday in their beautiful home decorated with fairy lights. But the next day Katelyn wakes up shaken and terrified in a hospital bed…

She doesn’t remember the sweet taste of birthday cake icing, or how angry her best friend was at midnight, or the terrible things her husband said. She doesn’t remember the party at all.

When she asks her husband what happened the night of the party he says ‘nothing’. But her blood runs cold at the way his voice lilts slightly. The way it always does when he is lying.

Did someone at the party harm her?
What is her husband hiding?
Or did Katelyn herself do something terrible?

Only one thing is certain. Nobody can be trusted. And if Katelyn’s memories of the party do come back, it will tear them all apart…

I've not read this author before, but I would definitely read her again. Did it have that "gasp" surprise event that most great psychological thrillers have? Perhaps a tiny one. There are plenty of non surprising events (at least to me...as I saw most comimg), but the story was captivating enough to keep me intrigued. The ending was not as explosive as I love but all in all a decent thriller

Thank you Netgalley, Nicole Trope, and Bookouture for the advanced ebook!! This was a great thriller with so much angst and jealousy in those you think closest! I loved how we were able to see the relationship between Leah and Katelyn from the very beginning and see how everything unfolded. A must read and an ending that’ll throw you!

The Day After the Party is an addictive psychological thriller that will keep you guessing right until the very end.
The story drags a bit in the beginning, but once it picks up the pace you cannot put it down.
Who did what, to whom, how, why? Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, bam! another plot twist comes along that leaves you second-guessing everything!
I really enjoyed this unpredictable rollercoaster full of secrets, lies and betrayal. If you’re looking for a book that will surprise you, look no further.

A hugely predictable and unimaginative tale, that even at its best seems to border the ridiculous. All the way through I was hoping and willing for so much more. Sadly I was left disappointed and very underwhelmed. I don’t know where all these high ratings come from but I made a mistake trusting them.

What an enthralling tale full of intrigue! With its themes of secrecy, deceit, infidelity, troubled childhoods, and postpartum struggles, it blurs the line between truth and fiction.

Set primarily around a birthday celebration, the story unfolds, revealing events from the years preceding and following the pivotal event. The protagonist's fragmented memory of the party and its aftermath keeps readers engaged, gradually unveiling fragments of the past.

The tension escalates dramatically halfway through when the storyline turns violent. Although it was a quick and gripping read, some lingering uncertainties remained, leaving me with unanswered questions.

Overall, the book was an enjoyable experience.

The Day After The Party is a gripping and suspenseful domestic thriller. Right from the prologue this book got right under my skin and kept a firm grip right through until the final sentence. There’s a lot going on in this book as we are given the perspective from the two main characters KateLyn and Leah. The characters in this book were all dare I say quite horrible and nasty. I think the only one I liked was little Harper. But then again I do love a book with nasty characters.

I've read a few books by this author and that's why I chose this book as well when it was available on Netgalley. I received a copy from Bookouture and it came out today!

Throughout the book you follow a few different characters. Katelyn who doesn't remember the party and the day after the party. Leah who has been Katelyn's friend for years and has her own secrets. Toby the husband of Katelyn who tries to stand by her in this ordeal. Who can she trust and who speaks the truth? What will happen if her memory returns?

Because of the fact that you look through different eyes, the story evolves more fluently. You get to know the characters quite well and you understand the reasoning behind the way they act. It's a fast paced and quick read. The ending wasn't a big surprise nonetheless it was fun to read.

4/5 ⭐

Oh boy. This book was such a great surprise. I admit that I was drawn to it by the amnesia piece, which I find fascinating - especially since amnesia as it's typically portrayed is a myth. However, it was so well done in this story, and trying to piece the puzzle back together with Katelyn was so enthralling. I thought this had a great storyline and a satisfying ending. Well Done!

The Day After the Party by Nicole Trope.
Wow a brilliant read. Read in one sitting. Katelyn wakes up in hospital and doesn't remember anything about the party. What happened? Did she do something or her husband Toby? I did like Katelyn but wasn't sure about Toby Leah or Aaron. This is the 4th book I've read of this author. Loved it. I certainly didn't see that coming. Twisty and gripping. 5*.
