Okay, not my kind of story. I just think that he's a little kid, and it's dangerous to him or other kids to play inside/near this kind of household appliance. I don't think that the final idea is not well closed, it's not helping kids to understand the dangers of getting inside these things. Not only that, but I just don't find in the ending a resemblance that could help fathers to teach their kids to be careful.
Sorry, but this book is a no, I would not purchase this for my kids or my nieces.
A spinning, spewing, sudsing monster has trapped Mika’s stuffed frog friend! Join Mika on a charming journey of imagination and discovery in Polish award-winning creators Agata Loth-Ignaciuk and Berenika Kolomycka’s Mika and the Gurgler.
This is so cute! I don't have kids, but I would recommend this to those who do!
Mika is a mischievous little girl who has a great imagination. She is playing around in the bathroom, when Mom goes to start some laundry. Suddenly, the washer seems to be very interesting! Maybe her friend Frog would like a ride? But, oh no! Now the washer is running and frog is trapped! Time to stage a rescue!
ARC Copy...Like the previous instalment, really does capture the innocence that comes with the wonder (and dangers...hehe washing machines can be a real hazard for kids and their buddies) of discovering new things for a child.
Mika is such a curious little investigator. Following his adventures is certainly fun!
The illustrations in this book are absolutely adorable.
I might just add a bit about being safe around a washing machine 😊
Grateful to have received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley & Oni Press.
Mika is a small person who loves to wear his tiger suit all the time. He also likes bubbles in the sink. When mom decides to do the wash, frog is left inside the machine and Mika has to rescue him. Fun story!
The illustrations by Berenika Kolomycka are fun, simple, brilliant, and delightful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on PDF from Oni Press via NetGalley. Thank you!

Thank you NetGalley for the review copy!
This was a fun little graphic novel about Mika and his adventure vs the washing machine. The illustrations are beautifully done :)
Mika and The Gurgler is a wonderful follow up to the first book with Mika. Mika again believes an appliance is sentient - this time the washing machine aka The Gurgler! The Gurgler traps Mika's frog in its mouth so Mika goes on an adventure to save it. Very sweet book, I look forward to more Mika adventures!
Short and sweet. Sometimes less is more. What a happy tale simple life that a small little kid has. It’s a short sweet tale.
My kids loved this title. The illustrations were amazing and kept them engaged. My daughter loved the graphic story board look and my son loved the tiger costume.
I'd absolutely recommend this book to other parents.
Thank you to Netgalley and the creators for allowing me the opportunity to review this ARC. I'm leaving my review honestly and voluntarily
This is cute! I can totally see how the washing machine is the gurgler! We’ve all been there. Gorgeous illustrations!
This is the cutest graphic novel! If you have a child who is addicted to a blanket or stuffed animal, this book is for you. Mika must watch her friend frog be cleaned in the laundry.
A sweet title about a young character, Mika, who does everything she can to save her friend from the washing machine. While this is a cute story, I find it tough to imagine sharing this book during a nighttime read or storytime. It's a brief adventure with lovely graphics and minimal text (the illustrations drive the story well), but I would not see myself jumping to add this to a collection. Still, a pleasant read. 3 -4 stars.
Thank you NetGalley and OniPress for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, all opinions in this review are my own.
Mika and the Gurgler is a sweet story about a little kid who is curious and imaginative. We follow her on her rescue mission when her friend frog (plushie) gets stuck inside the gurgler(washing machine). It's wholesome and children will love the simple and fun illustrations. This story can also be used to caution them when playing around washing machines and to be careful.
It has a soothing green blue orange color palette and uses watercolors and pencils to achieve a minimal but beautiful medium to tell this story.
I loved it ! So cute !
I loved the colors, the draw. Mika is a superhero! Frog is my fav I would defenitly saved him from the gugler
I received an advanced copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
In the second adventure for young Mika, in "Mika and the Gurgler," she tries to save her dear frog stuffed animal from the washing machine. It's too cute and sometimes hilarious. I loved reading about Mika again, the funny antics she gets into, and how the washing machine, to her, is a gurgling monster. I kind of feel bad for her mom and that major mess at the end. Hopefully, there's a book three soon.
Mika and the Gurgler is a fun comic-style story of a young girl named Mika who is always dressed in a tiger costume. She's curious about the washing machine when her mom is doing the laundry, and her frog friend accidentally gets stuck in the washing machine, or the gurgler. She works really hard to save her friend. Fun book with entertaining illustrations!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This is such a cute book for young children. Mika is such an inquisitive young girl going on an adventure around the house. When frog gets stuck/left behind the book also shows the love and friendship between the two by being brave. A great way to teach such concepts to youngsters.
Mika is a cute kid in a tiger suit who is full of imagination and mischief. In this short, sweet illustrated children’s book, Mika’s toy frog gets stuck in the washing machine (aka “the gurgler”). This book has minimal text, relying on colorful pictures to advance the playful plot. I read this via NetGalley.
Thank you so much to Netgalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Mika and the Gurgler is about a young kid who sees his friend frog get stuck in the washer machine and asks for the assistance of his 2 other friends to get frog out.
I really like the art style in this short comic. It's super cute! But it feels like this should be one chapter in a longer set of Mika's adventures. It was about 30 pages and took approximately 2 minutes to read. What I would want from a story like this is a bunch of Mika's adventures in a row. I hope that the author and illustrator get the chance to elaborate and expand on Mika's adventures.
I think this would be great for young kids!
