A beautifully visual representation of the journey of a river from source to the sea. With simple text and eye-catching illustrations, Charlotte Gullain has created the perfect text to explain how rivers are formed. Folding out to create a frieze, the pages invite the reader to pore over them and linger. There is so much going on to develop vocabulary and develop book chat, as well as supporting geography learning. A must for any budding geographer or teacher of primary geography.

This book is absolutely stunning. It is like taking a walk along the river. I have never had a concertina book before, but I can just picture how stunning this will be in its physical format.

The River That Flows Beside Me is a beautiful, intricately detailed visual delight, following a river's journey from the top of a mountain to the sea. I was not expecting the detail, in text or in pictures, but this book is an amazing gem!

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This book is so amazingly detailed. The images are very detailed, right down to feathers and fins on animals that really help immerse young readers in the scene of following a river and the facts are as detailed as is age appropriate. I can’t wait to next babysit my little water lover to share this with him too.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A great non-fiction book for kids about what happens around a river. How animals, people, commerce, and more react and how they need the river.

A great introduction to rivers, the geography of them & the wildlife that inhabits them.

I would have loved to see a mention of the environmental impacts of some of the human uses of rivers that were highlighted.

Overall a beautifully illustrated book about rivers for young children.

Thank you to NetGalley & Quarto for the DRC

It wasn’t what I expected but it was entirely my fault. I thought it would be some fun and cozy graphic novel with a fictional plot, yet it’s simply a helpful book for young children since it gives an overview of the river’s journey and what surrounds it.
It was extremely difficult reading it from my phone, but the drawings were equally beautiful and suggestive!

Beautiful art and an educational account of life along a river for both animals and humans. This book is also a good introductory lesson on river geography for children.

A bit slow, and I wasn't a fan of the layout, but overall the book was informative and visually stunning.

This was a little difficult to read on my phone, but I was able to get it figured out and we really enjoyed it! It had such a great set up and really lovely art.

The artwork for this book is very pretty and well done. Unfortunately, the font and location do the words was no well formatted. I had a hard time staying engaged and following the reading flow. For children, I also think some of the word choices were advance for what the intended audience seemed to be.

It could have been a nice educational book but was something boring as the illustrations were too overwhelming and a lot of things were happening at the same time.
I couldn't get past 1/4th of the book.

Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a work of art plus a learning experience. The layout of text and illustrations is quite unique. I don’t know how it will be presented in book form, but reading it online was like traveling along a river having an interesting adventure. At times this reader felt like she was flying over the river looking down on it.

I actually didn’t love this book too much. I found the imagery & illustrations really busy & overwhelming, there’s too much going on for my brain to process. I don’t really like the layout of the page & text, it’s really jumbled & all over the place. Not one for me.

What a fun nonfiction book! The illustrations were gorgeous & the information regarding rivers and their surroundings, was perfect. I loved the layout of it as well. It flowed perfectly! Great book for the classroom doing a science unit!
