Organizing a family get together is not easy. It's not because you are part of the same family you always see eye to eye. What if you have to spend a whole weekend in the company of your ex-husband and his new wife and baby? Of course you are looking forward to that... not! But because he is the father of your kids and you have always had a good connection with your mother in law, you oblige albeit reluctantly.

That's the situation Fiona finds herself in. Is doing her mother in law a favor the only thing she wants or is she hiding something? She is very observant and there are a lot of things that catch her attention. She feels sometimes like she is in the company of a lot of strangers because she does not recognize their behavior. She cannot wait for Monday to come, but life interferes and that's when the ball starts rolling..

I love this kind of settings for a book. The lock down situation where you don't know who you can trust and who you have to fear, where you don't know whether you are safer inside or outside. And I adore stories with epilogues because that's where the party always is. That's where all the masks fall off and your mouth falls open, wider and wider with each revelation.

At the end there is a question you that makes you think. I wonder which answer you gave... :)

A fantastic book I am convinced lots of people will enjoy as much as I did. 5 stars

Thank you

I have read all Sue Watson's work and I have to say this fell a bit flat for me. Her writing style seems to have changed, she tells more than she shows and hits us over the head with tons of exposition. This was not her style in earlier novels.

Also, the events unfolding really require the reader to suspend disbelief.

As a positive, the author has a unique way to fill the story with tension and fear, making it impossible to put the book down. My only regret is that the mysterious contents of the cupboard remain unexplored, leaving readers to wonder what secrets it might hold...

I would recommend it for a weekend read, and I give it 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. #TheLodge #SueWatson #Bookouture

Omg another great thriller by Sue Watson when I see a book written by her I know I am going to be in for a fantastic read. The lodge did not disappoint it was such a gripping read.

Fiona is invited to spend the weekend celebrating her former mother-in-law's birthday with her children, her ex, his new wife and their baby daughter, she is very reluctan to go until Angela convinces her by saying that this birthday could be her last. Not long after they have all arrived the police pay a visit there has been a hit and run. The police advise due to snowstorm and the incident that everyone stays in the lodge until they find out what has happened. Trapped tensions begin to build and secrets are spilled.

This was definitely one of my favourites this year. It is told from the ex wife and new wife’s perspectives which definitely builds the tension. Highly recommended to everyone must read. Thanks to netgallery and the publisher for my advanced copy.

The Lodge is a classic locked room mystery with a highly dysfunctional family all wedged together.

What begins as a concerted effort to bring a family together - at the request of a mother in law - becomes a nightmare.

Ex-wife, new wife, children, mother (-in-law) - and a husband who has secrets aplenty. Mix together with a world class snowstorm, and they are all stuck. Like a powder keg, this family has nowhere to go but to explode.

An edge of your seat thriller

Oh what a family! Enjoyable read which got me thinking would i want to be cooped up with my ex and his wife plus mother in law? A few things i found a bit unlikely ( the police can get in and out but no one else?) but overall a great read which i highly recommend.

My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of The Lodge, Sue Watson's newest read-it-in-one-sitting thriller. When Fiona is invited to spend the weekend celebrating her former mother-in-law's birthday with her children, her ex, his new wife and their infant daughter, she is - understandably so - reluctant... until Angela convinces her by saying that this birthday could be her last. Fiona arrives at the rented lodge in a brutal snowstorm and is met by Angela, who is beginning to show early signs of dementia, and the young chef that she invited to cook for them all. As it unfolds that Jenna may not be the esteemed chef that she claims to be and tensions mount between her and Scott's new wife Danni, secrets continue to come to light. And to make matters worse, they're all trapped there until the mysterious death of an unidentified man on the road leading to the lodge is solved.

This is a gripping, fast-paced novel that will keep you up all night reading and guessing until the ultimate, shocking reveal.

Creepy claustrophobic fun!

Angela Wilson requests that her son and his current and ex wife come to a lodge she has rented for her birthday. She is close to her son Scott's ex wife Fiona and would like the whole extended family, including two adult kids and Scott and his new wife's baby in attendance. She surprises the group with a French chef but the chef turns out to be a familiar trouble maker known to all the parties.

As you might guess, as the snow begins to fall, the family members snipe at one another. Ex wife Fiona can't seem to let Scott go, New wife Danni seems to need constant attention and is even appearing paranoid. The French chef is prone to making cutting remarks... and then the police arrive with news that someone was hit on their lane and as their rented lodge is the last on the lane, it seems one of them may be the guilty party.

As the blizzard continues and the police request that they stay put, the house become a literal powderkeg and it's only a matter of time before something or someone explodes!

A lot of unlikely facts create this set up but Watson brings a delightful tension and fear factor in her writing. I loved every minute of it and you will too. My only complaint is that no one mentions what was found in the cupboard!
Grab this book, a drink and a blanket because you won't put it down until you are done! #thelodge #sueswatson #bookouture
