This was so much fun, I really enjoyed the story & the romance! The writing was fantastic as expected, and the Alosa and Riden cameos were so good I love them :”)

The plot of this book was really good, though I feel like it would’ve been better if it was either split into two books or paced better. The plot doesn’t pick up until after the halfway mark so it doesn’t feel as developed as it could be and the resolution also felt really rushed. Despite this, it was a solid plot and I had fun reading it! The main characters were great, but felt underdeveloped compared to the main characters of the original duet; a lot of their dynamic and history was referenced as happening before the events of the current book but we didn’t get enough information for it to feel natural when they interact the way they do in the current story. Again, it was still a fun time, but i think the original duet is still my favourite :)

Vengeance of the Pirate Queen masterfully intertwines Pirates of the Caribbean excitement with The Mummy's adventurous spirit in a standalone YA fantasy romance.

Vengeance of the Pirate Queen stands as a solid addition to the series, delivering a wild adventure and earning an easy 4-star rating. The Vengeance of the Pirate Queen is Levenseller's return to the world of the Daughter of the Pirate King series, and whilst one doesn't have to have read the previous two books to enjoy this book, I did appreciate the return to this world and the appearance of the main characters from the previous duology.

I'm so glad we got more of this world, I mean who doesn't love pirates? Especially incredibly badass female pirates. I do wish we saw a bit more of our previous MC's because I adored them. However, our main POV in Vengeance is awesome, I mean a closed off pirate assassin who always speaks her mind? YES PLEASE.

Sorinda's development in this tale from a closed off and super grumpy assassin to a pirate captain who understands her emotions and has grown connections not just romantically but created her own little found family is amazing. Her relationship with Roselyn was just PERFECT.

The villain was SUPER creepy and overall the book was fast paced and a joy to read.

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity earlier this month to read this as an ARC thanks to the wonderful team at Netgalley and Pushkin. Unfortunately, I then sat on it until I gave in and pre-ordered another copy anyway because I am weak and I knew I was going to love it.

And I did. It's vivid, fun, and quick. I thought this was going to take significantly longer to read than it did, but once I started I just didn't want to put it down.

With Vengeance of the Pirate Queen, I approached it with hopes of loving the characters and romance, but with some reservations about the writing style. Fortunately, this book proved to be a significant improvement over its predecessors. The writing style felt more mature, and the characters, particularly Alosa and Riden, had the depth I had been seeking. While the first half of the book was a bit slow in terms of romance and adventure, the second half more than made up for it. I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing Kearan and Sorinda's story unfold, and the quest and monster in this story were captivating.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of Vengeance of the Pirate Queen by Tricia Levenseller.

I really loved the Daughter of the Pirate King and Siren Queen duology, as well as Levenseller’s stand-alone The Shadows Between Us, so I was incredibly excited to receive this ARC for book three.

I loved Sorinda, the focus on a new character was refreshing and different! She was such a cool and empowering female main character.

I thought this story was beautifully written - Tricia Levenseller is a great storyteller - the world building was intricate and she delved into Sorinda's character growth quite well!

I would recommend this to fans of Levenseller as well as anyone who loves YA Fantasy, pirate romance, slow burn, forced proximity and enemies to lovers!

Sorinda deserves the world 😭

This is so well written, I absolutely devoured this! I adored the first two books and it was amazing seeing a different perspective set in the same world we all know and love.

I absolutely loved the original Daughter of the Pirate King/Siren Queen duology, so I was so so excited to get this ARC for book 3.

I loved that we got to focus on a different character - Sorinda! She was such a badass. I don't think it was on the same level as the first two books, but that's just personal preference. Alosa is my girl. I would have loved to see more of her in this.

I thought this story was well written - Tricia Levenseller is a great storyteller - and delved into Sorinda's growth quite well!

I think you'll like this if you enjoy the following tropes:
🏴‍☠️ YA fanstasy pirate romance
🏴‍☠️ A deadly assassin
🏴‍☠️ Forced proximity
🏴‍☠️ Boss lady vibes
🏴‍☠️ Slow burn
🏴‍☠️ A battle with sea monsters
🏴‍☠️ Antagonists to lovers

I absolutely ADORE this series and I didn’t realise just how much I was desperate for a Sorinda book - her relationship with Kearan but also with herself was so beautifully done and I just adore them

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this, I did miss Alosa but this book is great in its own right, and it wa since to have a different narrator. Tricia Levenseller is an auto buy author for me and this book did not dissapoint.

If you enjoyed the other books in this trilogy then I highly recommend this one too!

OMG, I love Sorinda, she has gone through so much, all I can do is admire her strength and tenacity. This book is her epic journey, not just because of the adventures but also personally, we get to se her fighting her inner demons and win!

Kearan, a so lovely helmsman. He is amazing, he knows Sorinda and knows what exactly she needs every single time!

This was a fair read without anything jumping out as a wow factor. I missed Alosa. You don’t expect to have too much talking about feelings in a pirate adventure story, but I did feel the romance storyline took up too much time. I would have preferred a more developed fantasy presence personally. Many thanks to Netgalley for an arc of this book.

“You can’t be afraid of the dark when you’re the monster lurking in the shadows”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I loved reading about Alosa in Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen and when I saw Tricia was releasing the third book in the series I was thrilled. And when you read that the book is a good combination of Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mummy, how can you not pick it up and read it?!

This book focus on Sorinda, Alosa’s right hand woman. Sorinda is an assassin and a pirate, but she is also an 18-year-old woman with a crippling past and mental scars. Despite her dark memories she is an equally fierce and awesome female lead as Alosa was in the first two books. Sorinda is tasked with captaining a rescue mission to save parts of Alosa’s crew and is paired with her least favourite person Keeran.

And so their journey begins, a simple rescue mission turning into an epic quest.

Not only must Sorinda step out of her comfortable shadows and captain her crew to rescue the missing girls, but she is constantly challenged by Keeran to work through her inner darkness. The crew must survive the perilous route, battle an invisible force that pick off the crew one by one, sea monsters and stumble upon a mythical treasure that turns out to be its own kind of hell.
The best part of the book is absolutely the reverse grumpy/sunshine relationship that evolves between Sorinda and Keeran.

☠️ reverse grumpy/sunshine
☠️ badass lady pirates
☠️ found family
☠️ banter
☠️ YA fantasy romance
☠️ stabby FMC
☠️ cinnamon roll MMC
☠️ he falls first
☠️ slow burn romance

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. My review is my own and not influenced by others.

I found this a little harder to get into than the original duet of the series, possibly because Sorinda was such an unreliable narrator when it came to Kearan that I found, it difficult to buy into their feelings for one another. That said I enjoyed the action aspects of the story and my word what a lot of adventures Sorinda and her crew had.

This is a grumpy/sunshine romance where it's the heroine who is the sourpuss, which was a lovely little twist on the trope. I loved watching Sorinda grow and develop over the course of the story. Her emotional journey was as difficult and perilous as her physical one, but the one constant who was always there was Kearan, who was very different to the man we first met in Daughter of the Pirate King.

To fully appreciate this book I do think you need to have read the first two books (which feature a different heroine and her man).

It was really fun revisiting the world of Alosa and her crew and once again Tricia Levenseller wrote a fun and heart-warming adventure featuring some fan favourite characters from the previous duology.
This time the focus is on assassin Sorinda a loyal member of Alosa’s crew since she was found on the streets as a child after her family was killed. She is very closed off and cold and remains as unattached as possible, choosing to work alone as much as possible.
Kearan is another returning character from the previous books and was seen as a drunk who shirks responsibility as a way of blurring his feelings. Now as he is reintroduced, he is sober and appears to be completely different. He is caring, considerate and remains determined to make amends with anyone affected by his drunkenness.
A ship with five girls from Alosa’a crew have gone missing while exploring unknown waters and Sorinda has been tasked with pursuing this ship to locate them. Kearan, who is obviously in love with Sorinda, is also recruited. The voyage begins with Sorinda now Captain of the Vengeance. There appears to be a stowaway on board though. Eight-year-old Roslyn from the other books. She is honestly such a delight to read. She just dreams of being a successful female pirate like Alosa and Sorinda. The treacherous waters provide a multitude of challenges with one discovery becoming life changing for the crew.
I think as the book was a standalone, it meant the story had to progress quite quickly so I didn’t feel as connected to the characters that I’ve previously been with Tricia’s books. Regardless, it was great to revisit this world and see new and old characters.
Thanks so much for the eARC!

Unfortunately the story didn’t keep up with the previous books.

There was a lot going on in the book but it was lacking the emotions and logic.

I absolutely hate when the main character knows everything because they just know when there is no reason for them to know things. It is just easy way for an author to come up with the solutions to their plot. Lazy writing.

Great swashbuckling female lead pirate adventure. Well written and action packed. Could be classed as YA but I never really know what that genre is. Enjoyed it as a stand-alone read. Thank you to #netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

Vengeance of the pirate queen

Returning to the world of pirates and sirens through the eyes of an assassin definitely makes for a bloody tale.

Alosa tasks Sorinda with the job of finding some missing girls, and they wind up dealing with an army of the undead. I really enjoyed the first half of the book. We get pretty much a whole new crew, so there's still the found family aspect from the original duology, and I always liked the notion of a crew full of women.

Sorindas' back story is tragic and adds great emotional value to the book. I think having Roslyn on board also allows us to see a side of Sorinda that wants to save her from that fate and humanises her. Roslyn, in general, is my favourite character. She may be 7, but she has tenacity.

The romance aspect felt a little shoehorned in at the last second. I would have liked to see them develop that connection before the whole undead thing happened rather than after it.

Speaking of undead things, I liked the end sequence of the book. It makes for some very sweet moments and some great action. But it did make the original mission quite easily solved (especially when our FMC is so big on not needing a mans help), and I could have done without the army leaders' character. I think that having Sorinda split from the crew made the second half less enjoyable, as well as the lack of seabound adventures. And the main villain isn't scary, I get he needs her to like him, but he's undead and giving absolutely nothing.

There's definitely potential for a book telling Niridia and Mandsy's tale from their mission. As well as Roslyn getting up to more trouble.
I've gone with 3.5 stars because I'm feeling very middle of the road about it, but Roslyn deserves some credit. Bless her, so I'll round it a 4 for goodreads.

I received an advance review copy of this book, and this review represents my honest opinion. Thank you to netgalley, Tricia Levenseller, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.

First, that you Puskin Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I hate and have a hard time writing bad reviews, especially for a series I adore.
I loved all the other books of Daughter of the Pirate King series, loved Alosa as a character, and the chemistry between Alosa and Riden was wonderful.
Furthermore, I was intrigued by Sorinda as a character too, and I was so happy to hear that we will get a story that is concentrated on her.
Let me start with what I DID LIKE – the topic about dealing with trauma and the day-to-day battle that is living with it and finding a way to overcome this. Furthermore, the truth that you're not alone, and you can lean on your closest people to help you with that. Also, typical for Levenseller impeccable writing style was also present.
What I didn't like was that while dealing with her inner problems she appeared and acted rude and childish and actually insulted (and not in a banter like manner but full on insult) multiple times Kearan without any provocation on his part.
And here comes the issue for his character – he acted like a punching bag for her without any dignity and while she was insulting him, he proceeded to follow her like a puppy.
Those two combined led to a very awkward and a bit cringy feel between them that was hard to buy the feelings between them.
Story wise in the previous books I loved that the story leaned more to the pirate lore with mermaids, sea monsters and the second part of the story in this book was a bit hard to digest and like it was a story in the story. Entirely different from the first half and leaning heavily into the fantasy with the immortal enemy, and even worse when Sorinda became immortal too.
As I said, I am absolutely gutted to have to write such a review, but I love Tricia Levenseller's work and undoubtedly, I'll continue to follow her works with love and interest.
Again, thank you for giving me the opportunity to write a review for this book.

It was such a delight to be thrown back into this world.
From the first page, this book sends you right back to the pirate vibes of the series with the same fantastic writing and plot developments, fantastic characters to follow, swashbuckling adventure and rich world building. All of its predecessors characteristics are continued in this book.

I love Sorinda as a character, hard assassin bad ass with heart and I’m thrilled to have other characters back to follow her story. We get to know more about the pirate assassin and her history as well as her new development as a captain of her own shop and following her development as a character with the help of Kearan.

This book is an amazing continuation to the story and characters, I find it incredible that the author is able to keep the same level of atmosphere throughout the series and I felt just as invested in the plot as I had the first two books, I just couldn’t put it down.

If you love pirates, adventure, an almost grumpy/sunshine slow burn romance as well as mystical creatures and laugh out loud moments you need this book, which can also be read as a stand-alone.
