I fell in love with the Daughter of the Pirate King duology when I read it a couple of years ago so I was beyond excited to revisit the world in Vengeance of the Pirate Queen.
As always, Tricia Levenseller weaves a beautifully written and fast paced book full of suspense and wonderful female characters.
Since it had been a while since I read Daughter of the Pirate King, I was concerned that I wouldn't remember enough to understand the newest installment. Much to my delight, Vengeance of the Pirate Queen can be read as a standalone and whilst I do recommend reading the original duology first, it is not necessary to understand this book.
If you love Pirates of the Caribbean and romance, you will definitely want to pick up this book!

I loved the first two books in the series and I was thrilled to return to this world of sirens and pirates, even though the protagonist is no longer Alosa, now the Pirate Queen, but her best assassin, Sorinda.
Sorinda is the person who the Pirate Queen sends to take care of her enemies. They don’t see her coming and she gets the job done. But when Alosa asks her to captain a crew to find some of her girls undercover on a ship of the Land’s King, Sorinda is not exactly thrilled. Still haunted by her past and its monsters, she doesn’t feel up to the job and she doesn’t want to disappoint Alosa. Even worse, Kearan is part of her crew. She doesn’t like the attention he reserves her or the belief that he stopped drinking because of her. But her queen has tasked her with a mission and she has every intention to accomplish it. And if surviving a Kraken-like sea monster was hard, facing the King of the Undersea is even worse. But Sorinda is determined to save her crew, even if it means sacrificing herself…
I really enjoyed Vengeance of the Pirate Queen. The beginning was a bit slow, but then the story really picked up pace and I turned page after page. There are monsters, undead, pirates, sirens, a quest for revenge, alliances are formed, and curses are broken. And of course, a fantastic slow-burn romance that kept me completely immersed.
If you haven’t read the first two books, I think it can be easily read as a standalone as there is some backstory, which helped me, too, as I couldn’t remember some of the characters from the previous books. That said, if you love stories of pirates, romance, a fantastic world-building, I recommend the entire series!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I only discovered Tricia Levenseller last year but I love her writing style! I appreciate how Tricia addressed the fact that the female crews are wary of big men and how it was explained to a couple of the male characters. I hope it can be eye opening for some other readers.
The dedication mentioned a love of Pirates of the Caribbean and I definitely got those vibes throughout the book!
As it's been a little while since I read Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen, I did struggle to remember what had happened, how things were left and who certain characters were but I soon got sucked into the story. At times characters would have flashbacks or tell new characters about something that happened in the past, which helped.
The pacing was ok but I did find it a little slow at times, even though something was always happening - fighting, character growth, discoveries etc.
I loved Sarinda. She's such a fierce character but she has a side that is hidden from everyone else. It was nice to see her finally realise that she is a good captain and that it's OK to talk, to feel and to need help from other people.
Kearan was a good match for Sarinda. He's patient, a good listener and just as stubborn as she is.
I'm not going to lie, I did cry at a few of the emotional scenes 😂.
The world building was good and I liked the fighting scenes with the beastie. It was interesting to see another island that wasn't known about and meeting its inhabitants.
I loved returning to this world and I hope there will be more books to come!
P.S. this book releases today!
*Thank you to @Netgalley, the author and the publishers for providing this ARC. This is my own opinion and an honest review, which I am leaving voluntarily*

Vengeance of the Pirate Queen is a standalone YA fantasy romance, set in the world of Tricia Levenseller's Daughter of the Pirate King.
The first book I read by this author and loved it. The writing style, the female pirates, the mystery, the strong independent women all in a mix-and-match adventure. It's a quick-paced book that keeps you on your toes and makes you feel hungry to know more and read the next chapter.
The main character, Sorinda, is a strong woman who needs no man to rescue her. A good role model for young ladies to know they can do whatever our society thinks is only men’s job, in this case, a captain pirate (minus the killing please :) )
The writing style was effortless and I loved the handwritten notes and letters throughout the book.
Can’t wait to read another book by Tricia Levenseller.
My thanks to NatGalley, the publisher and the author for my early copy.
#VengeanceofthePirateQueen #NetGalley

I requested this book without even reading the description as I loved the first 2 books by Tricia Levenseller so much. Whilst I missed Alosa, Sorinda is a great new lead character. The story held me gripped throughout and it was a book I both raced through and didn’t want to finish. I really hope TL writes more tales of the Pirate Queen. They make a fantastic escape and would totally recommend to anyone who enjoys a fast paced adventure story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for giving me access to an early copy of this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a free earc in exchange for an honest review. And thank you Tricia Levenseller for revisiting this world and giving us the content we so desperately needed.
Tricia Levenseller is an autobuy author for me for a reason. Her writing style is just so easy to absolutely devour and I love how different each of her main characters are whilst still being powerful and wonderful. It came as no shock at all that Sorinda was an absolutely amazing main character to read about. I loved her perspective and her voice! I loved getting to see inside her head and why she acts the way she does.
I do wish we had more of the old familiar faces in this one. But I will just have to reread the original duology for that, I suppose (what a shame).
This book was so much fun to read and I'm so, so happy that we got to see this universe expand and also see some familiar faces again. I absolutely loved it and cannot wait for Levenseller's next book!

Whilst it was nice to return to this world, I found this book to be much slower paced than the first 2. I also found the characters to be quite bland and the plot to be thin in places. Not my favourite book by this author unfortunately. I did like that pirates of the Caribbean inspired aspects throughout the story.

The Daughter of the Pirate King duology was an amazing surprise. I'm usually not a pirate girl, but those books sucked me in from the very first page. I liked the characters, I liked the romance, I liked the plot and all the twists and turns. So, when I discovered that a third book was gonna be written I didn't know how fast to pre-order my copy. When I saw the book on Netgalley I of course also requested a copy there and Pushkin Press granted me a copy.
The first few chapters of this book were amazing. I was sucked in again, just like with the first two books, and really enjoyed reuniting with these characters and this world. However, at some point the book started to lose my interest. I was still reading all the words, but I actually stopped caring about what I read. The plot wasn't really my thing, I didn't really have a connection with Kearan and I was mostly still reading to just finish the book.
I just didn't really feel this book. I don't think it's because the book is bad. Once more the writing style is lovely. The sentences flowed nicely, I could fly through the book and the dialogues sounded really natural. I also love how the author balances the characters being pirates with them still being actually good people. They're just willing to cross certain lines to deal with the bad people in this world, lines non-pirates don't wanna cross.
I also think the author came up with an exciting adventure for these characters. Something that does fit into this world and will have consequences for future books, because I don't doubt there will be more books set in this world. The pacing is also quite nice, combining action scenes with smaller and more intimate and personal scenes. I just didn't have the same kind of click with the story as I had with the previous two books.
So, I guess it's a case of "it's me and not the book" and if the author adds another book to this universe I will just dive in again, hoping the new book might fit me better.

After hearing these books were inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean, the expectations were high and I was not disappointed!!
This is a stand alone book set in the world of Daughter of the Pirate King which I haven’t read (yet). I think the author did a really good job of outlining info from the other books so it never felt like I was missing out. I also didn’t feel like it gave too much away and if anything I’m just more excited to read other books from the same world! The FMC was pretty badass with ‘don’t need no man’ energy and I loved that the romance element didn’t compromise this side of her. I also really enjoyed the fact that the love interest was a normal bloke so the relationship was built on respect and trust rather than because he “was the most beautiful man…” as in many other stories.
It was a super fun, easy and action-packed read which I would highly recommend to anyone :)
Thank you so much to Pushkin Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

It feels like forever that I have waited for this, before it even existed I wanted to read this, the reality never let me down and Tricia Levenseller has done it again, if you love Daughter of the Pirate King you’ll love this, if you haven’t read it, why not, go read it now.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author, for early access to this book in exchange for an honest review ✨️
I was loving the pace of the book and half way when we were hit with the big plot point, it threw me off completely as it was unexpected and I had no idea how they would overcome it. How it ended left me wondering how things would turn out and not sure if it would lead to a sequel (for this particular pair and especially the FMC).
The first and last line of the book was beautifully done and connected *chefs kiss*
It seems there's also an underlying moral to the story that relates to real life as well which stuck with me, especially in the scene where the FMC discussed her past. I felt a lot of raw emotions there.
Overall, I loved the book and its characters. I'm glad I got to read more of that world following the first 2 in the series 🥰

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I had read the author's The Shadows Between Us and loved it, so when I saw a new title from her on NetGalley, I immediately requested it! Full disclosure, I haven't read the previous Daughter of the Pirate King, but I had no problems understanding the world or the characters. I thought that spoke of the author's writing skills, and well done on that aspect!
Vengeance of the Pirate Queen was a perfectly all right read! A lot of adventure, great character dynamics, and a slowburn romance that built throughout the book. But neither Sorinda nor Kearan really come off as young adults; to me, they sounded like adults, making this an adult book, in my opinion. The fact that she had killed some people when she was five was also hard to believe. I hope there was a sensitivity reader involved, too, since the character is described with brown skin....
I really liked the adventure and how the characters interacted with each other! The crew was fun to read about, and they really made the book so much stronger. Especially Enwen! He's so precious, the best character in this book by far. He's so relatable and so endearing. How he does scary things even though he's very afraid, how he protects and takes care of Kearan even though Kearan isn't the affectionate type lol, and he's also sooo funny! I loved Enwen!

Acting Rating: 3.5 Stars
Vengeance of the Pirate Queen is the third book and standalone spin off of Daughter of the Pirate King. The story follows Sorinda Veshtas who is a skilled assassin who works for the pirate queen Alosa. Sorinda is used to hiding in the shadows so when her next task is a recuse mission and not a kill order, she is quite surprised. But things take a worst turn when her crew and her infuriating helmsman, Kearan, accidentally awaken the King of the Undersea.
I loved the original Daughter of the Pirate duology and was surprised to hear there was going to be a third book. However, I think there was just something lacking in this book and I can't figure it out. I do think this was a tad unnecessary. But I'm still a bit torn on how I want to rate this book.
The pacing was off for me. The first half of the book had a slow start with not a lot happening, only having a few bits of action here and there. Whereas the second half was where it began to pick up. It was definitely a lot more interesting and what most likely is causing a divide between my rating overall. I also think that the ending was a little rushed, like the villain was killed a little too quick for my liking.
Roslyn was the star of the show and I'm so glad that we got to read more of her. She is such a smart and sassy character and if we ever get to another book then I would love for it to center around an older Roslyn.
I was so excited to read about a pirate assassin because honestly, who can resist that? But I struggling to connect with Sorinda a little. And I felt like her relationship with Kearan was lacking a little in chemistry. There was no sort of build up to their relationship, only seeing glimpses of Kearan liking Sorinda.
I do think if you love the original duology and are looking for a quick read this is a book to pick up.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a ARC in exchange for a honest review.

I remember first reading the first book in the series years ago. And I’m so so happy that we have a third instalment. I loved everything about this book. The plot was amazing, loved that we got Sorinda’s POV. I just loved everything that tricia writes. Cannot wait for more books by her.

Set in the world of the Daughter of the Pirate King, this one focuses more on Sorinda, an 18-year-old assassin who works for Alosa (the pirate queen).
Although this one has a different protagonist, I’d recommend that you’ve read the other two first! It will just give you the context that will help you out here.

Our main character Sorinda is such a unique character and makes this read a delight.
Shes an incredibly strong, unusual person, but we also see a vulnerable side, and I feel we get to see her throughout this.
I love the crew involved, and their banter and bickering seem so realistic I felt like one of the gang from the get-go.
This book is fast-paced and action packed, with a fantastic plot that kept me reading and not wanting to put the book down.
Overall, a fun, page-turning read with almost a found-family element and of course, pirate themed adventures. But a twist on them, instead of the usual fighting and plundering, it's a rescue mission!
Also I love the title, I think it's really clever in the context of the book!

I really enjoyed the other books in this series and I was a little worried that this would be a cut-and-paste story focusing on different characters but Sorinda is great and it was fun to follow her through the story. I liked it, but it’s quite slow and there’s a whole bit in the middle that felt unneeded, though the last quarter or so certainly made up for it. It’s enjoyable, it’s just a quite predictable, but I wasn’t reading it thinking there’s be an amazing plot, I was reading it for the girl pirates and there’s plenty of them! A low-stakes, easy-read for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean. Thanks Netgalley for the ARC.

*Actual rating is 4.5 stars*
The description of “Pirates of the Carribean meets The Mummy” is pretty accurate. There’s pirates, a seemingly doomed quest and some undead. Setting sail into dangerous waters with a mostly new crew, assassin pirate extraordinaire Sorinda is tasked with saving lives - not taking them for once. But the journey is anything but easy and what follows is a great pirate adventure. It had me hooked from basically the first page. There is some romance in this book, but it is mostly in the later part of the book after a long slow-burn. Something that differs from the first two books in the series, where the romance is very front and center. The main thing I didn’t like was the bad guy of the story. Mostly because I felt like the story lost steam with that plotline, and I found myself not as invested in it as what came before or after.
Sorinda was an unexpected new favourite. While I enjoyed the first two books in the Daughter of the Pirate King series, I never really connected with the main character Alosa. She’s badass and cool for sure, and I did appreciate her character. But the difference with Sorinda is tangible. Her feelings of being misplaced, her fear of being a failure and constantly feeling like she had taken water over her head just hit differently. She just resonated with me on a deeper level. Who knew that an assassin pirate could make me cry.
Vengeance of the Pirate Queen is a welcome addition to the Daughter of the Pirate Queen series, and now I really want sequel stories with the other two girls of Alosa’s closest circle. There can never be too many fantasy YA pirate books.

Thank you to Netgalleyand Pushkin Press for sending me the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I've got to admit I absolutely loved The Daughter of the Pirate King Duology and loved the story focused on Alosa and Riden.
So, hearing about this book, I felt excited but more anxious. I was worried that I wouldn't enjoy this book as much as the first 2. Especially since Alosa wasn't the main character anymore.
The story instead follows Sorinda, Alosa's most trusted Assassin.
I found I really enjoyed following Sorinda and really liked her personality. I felt that Sorinda's character development was written so well!
I loved diving back into this universe of female badass pirates. It was such a fun adventure to follow, with great world building and a great bunch of fun characters.
I really hope that the author revisits this universe because I need more.

*Thank you to NetGalley and Pushkin Press, Pushkin Children's Books for providing me this book in exchange for an honest review.*
I really loved Sorinda's story. Levenseller's writing style is a dear one for me and I love her Daughter of the Pirate King duology so of course I would have read Vegeance of the Pirate Queen. It's an amazing addition to the DotPK universe.
