Excellent coming of age story set in Louisiana. Relatable characters and story, hard to put down. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book
Bayou country is a great place to grow up. The pace of life is laid back and the folks are welcoming and gregarious. Thomas Edison Hopper aka Hashtag is growing up in this environment and his mama and grandmother are the lights of his life.
His best friend and cohort Chilly is always by his side. They go fishing together for the myriad of fish that live in the swamps. On one of their exploring fishing trips, they happen upon an old seemingly abandoned property where drugs are being handled.
The boys decide to investigate and turn the evidence over to the sheriff. They do not want their parish to sink into the morass that is a drug city. Gathering the evidence, however, puts them into real danger.
Penny Poulsen Watson is a very gifted writer with a real talent for spinning a yarn. She knits a delightful tale with wit and humor. Her characters are well developed and very believable. Love is apparent throughout the story between the characters, even though a good switching is called for! The investigation into drugs in the parish is heartbreaking.
I recommend this book to all that enjoy a good adventure with well-developed characters and a believable plot. Enjoy! 5 stars – CE Williams
This is a coming of age story set in the depths of the Louisiana. Tee is a young part-Cajun lad, living with his mother and grandmother and enjoying a childhood many could only dream of. Until he and his friend Chilly get drawn into some nefarious activities as Chilly's brother Pinkie gets a new job that pays suspiciously well.
The story begins with Tee being dropped at his Texan grandfather's house, and it takes almost to the end of the book before we understand why this has happened. But bear with it, its worth the wait. The relationship Tee has built with those around him from his friends to his mother and grandmother and his elderly neighbour is heartwarming and the reader is drawn into his world as he fears full-moon monsters and the problems of getting to like girls.
An interesting, unusual and very readable story which I enjoyed more than I initially thought I might, as the Cajun slang was irritating initially.
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
