Always entertaining, if a touch far fetched in this instance, I really enjoyed the way the author creates interesting situations and characters.
And the characters are always so very likeable, especially those who are creating the most chaos. I think Iris was my favourite, she was just so wonderful.
A fun read, with the bonus of being set in Cornwall.
What another great book from Jill Mansell, I didn't want it to end! I really enjoyed this book, its a must read!
Every time I read a Jill Mansell book, I think to myself will I ever find a Jill Mansell book I don’t love?… the answer is still a resounding NO! I fell in love with the characters, found myself soooo invested in what happened and genuinely was sad to finish it. 100% recommend to anyone.
Jill Mansell never disappoints!
I love all the different characters and how they connect together. I think Max & Lottie were my fave but I also liked Iris & Drew!
I feel like a Jill Mansell book is a lovely, easy read and I know exactly what to expect from her stories which is very comforting! Not that they're in any way boring though!!
It was also lovely to get a little cameo from Daisy!
Mansell's stories never miss for me, heartwarming, hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking and filled with such relatable characters, she switfly became an insta pick author for me, and The Wedding of the Year might just be my favourite out of her most recent books.
I think one of the things I love about Mansell's stories are all the interweaving story lines. Yes, she has her main characters, her main romances and stories to follow, but there are always plenty of smaller characters and storylines to keep us entertained and add to the drama and heart that fills these books. Lottie and Max are by far the stars of this book, star crossed lovers, doomed to never be together because of an event from their past, but when they run into each other at a mutual friends wedding the sparks they've tried so hard to push down ignite, their connection is still there all those years later, but they're out of bounds for each other, something they might need to tell their hearts before they fall too deep.
And then there's Ruby, famous author and vicar's wife. She has a simple but happy life, until she finds out a truth about her husband she never saw coming. One that fills her with an understandable rage and causes her to act impulsively, an act that will change the rest of her life. But alongside these there's also Isla and Cameron, the seemingly perfect couple, but both maybe not what they seem. These are just a few of the characters and relationships we meet throughout the story, and though these may get the most page time, it doesn't mean we don't get as invested in the others.
Jill always sets her stories in the most beautiful and tranquil of settings and I absolutely plan on travelling down to Cornwall one day and visiting all my favourite places from her books. The generally small town settings, in villages where everyone knows everyone, where there's nowhere to hide, add a homely and sometimes humorous undertone to her books. And I especially love how she weaves in characters and places from her previous books into the stories, giving those of us that have poured over her backlog a lovely little surprise when characters and settings we remember turn up.
Her romances might not be steamy or spicy, but that doesn't mean they aren't filled with their own kind of tension. Lottie and Max spend the majority of their book in love, but so sure that they can never do anything about it. Ruby gets herself into a situation filled with misunderstandings and near misses and Isla, Isla for me was the most relatable of them all and I cackled out loud at some of the situations she gets herself into. All of her characters and so well written, they're not necessarily the best of people, but that just makes them seem more real and relatable, and despite the lack of spice, Mansell makes sure we get invested on the journey these characters take.
I loved this one, it was so much fun and I especially loved the twists that were thrown in and how they were dealt with. It's perfect for romance readers who love interweaving storylines, hilarious and real characters and romances that you can't help but get invested in.
Once again Jill Mansell has delivered one hell of a book, and its a absolutely wonderful.
I'll admit it did take me a while to get into it, but I think that's on me, rather than the book, and once I worked out who all the characters were, and got to know them a bit, the story flew by.
It was so enjoyable, getting to know so many of these storylines, and there are so many sub plots, I'm not even completely sure who the main characters really were. For it felt like a real ensemble piece, with a Love Actually sort of vibe to it.
I adored Ruby's story, which is about her reclaiming her life after discovering her husband had been cheating.
Then again I also loved Max and Lottie's story, and seeing if they would ever get together and then seeing what they could do about their warring families.
Then there is Iris, and she's just fabulous, with her most memorable scenes involving a skip of all things!
In fact the whole town Cornish town was fabulous, and I wished I could go and spend some time there in person. I loved the whole varied cast of characters, and this was just a heartwarming and uplifting story to read.
It's another triumph, for an author who I have now been reading probably for more years than I have fingers and toes for! And long may it continue.
Thank you to Headline for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily
A wonderful, warmhearted romance. Several interconnected stories that keep you guessing. The characters really get you invested. A brilliant book, I loved it.
I don't wanna be dramatic, but this book was effing brilliant. Could not recommend it more! Have never read a book so fast!
Jill your fabulous!
I always enjoy Jill Mansell’s books and The Wedding of the Year provided a summery escape during these dark winter evenings!
Set in Lanrock, Cornwall, The Wedding of the Year follows Ruby, Lottie, Freya, Iris and more in their romantic lives. Featuring weddings, break ups and getting togethers, I enjoyed reading about all of the couples and the friendships between the characters. There is some teasing out of character back story which made the first half of the book ‘unputdownable’. Overall a very enjoyable read!
The wedding of the year is the perfect book to read on a cold winters night! Full of feel good feels, love , friendship, new beginnings and second chances.
There are a few interwoven stories in the book each one with their own backstory told in a way which not only engaged me but didn’t confuse me as sometimes can be the case.
I loved how the stories unfolded each connected to each other, all characters residents in a small community where issues such as infidelity, second chances and forgiveness do not stay solely with the people who are trying to deal with them.
Grab this book to enjoy the warm feeling it gives the reader and escape to the beautiful Cornish coast with characters who will begin to feel like friends .
I'm a big fan of Jill Mansell and will read anything she writes so was super excited when her new book landed in my inbox.
As usual, everything you would expect from a Jill Mansell novel - a romantic, heart-warming plot with beautifully created characters.
Absolutely loved it.
I’ve not read a jill mansell book this year so was excited to read this and it did not disappoint. A love story that feels like they are never going to get a happy ending. Warm hearted, funny and a fab read
I’m never disappointed by a Jill Mansell book. I love the way there is several stories occurring and the stories or the characters overlap.
The wedding of the year starts and ends with a wedding with lots in between for the main characters Lottie, Freya and Ruby.
Love the characters and the plots, overall as well as each individual one.
Lots of interwoven stories but not in a complex can’t get to grips way but in a perfectly done way
Starting with a wedding that goes spectacularly wrong and a vicars wife on the brink we then travel through these stories with our characters as they rekindle love, find romance and explore friendships
I really liked Lottie,Freya and Ruby, the 3 main female characters and can’t pick a favourite,I guess that shows how good and how well done the story is
I don’t always go for all happy endings but in this case I was hoping for everyone to get what they wanted and deserved
A fine book that had me smiling throughout and really gave you personalities to get to know and love and want to be happy, all set in picturesque surroundings in Cornwall
I shall be reading more of this authors books as felt at ease with the writing and storytelling
Oh I loved this! Another fabulous read by the brilliant Jill Mansell. Set in Cornwall and brimming with brilliant characters, I was rooting for them all the way through this book. You always know that you will get an unputdownble showstopper of a read when you pick up one of her books and this was no exception.
If you like everyone to get their happy ending (and I do) then you will love this.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The wedding of the year is a lovely heartwarming read full of love, laughter, new beginnings and second chances!
Based in picturesque Cornwall we follow the ups and downs of relationships, including infidelity, second chances and forgiveness!
The book commences with an aborted wedding, revelations and a blast from the past!
Several intertwining love stories are weaved seamlessly together adding depth and breath to the read as we follow each couples journey through the idiosyncrasies of life and love!
Great characters such an eclectic, interesting mix, would be lovely to see how the relationships develop and flourish in the future!
Thank you NetGalley for this early read
As a long long time fan of Jill’s books, I was delighted to be given the opportunity to read and review this one. And what a treat it was!
Lottie bumps into Max, an old flame, at the wedding of Freya and Cameron. The wedding is being officiated at by Peter, the husband of Ruby. And from then on, nothing is the same for any of these three women. Their stories made me laugh, gasp and yes, I even had a little tear at times.
Jill writes beautifully about women and their lives. She covers so many different subjects and has lovely little cameos from characters in previous books (hello Daisy!)
Thank you so much for allowing me to read and review.
I’ve read a couple of Jill Mansell books, so I was excited to read this. It didn’t disappoint! Straight from the beginning you’re hooked wanted to know what happens next!
The book is based around two characters. Lottie and Ruby and how their lives are affected after attending a “wedding.” Chance meetings, a shock affair and a whole lot of history, I really couldn’t put this book down!
Lottie is happy with her life in the beautiful Cornish village of Lanrock. Running the family business keeps her busy and she has lots of close friends to keep her company. Until she attends the wedding of her friends Freya and Cameron. There she sees Max, the man she almost fell in love with as a teenager before family events got in their way.
Freya is scared at how relieved she is that the wedding didn’t go as planned, is Cameron really the one for her or is she about to have a lucky escape.
Ruby thought she had a good marriage, as the Vicar’s wife and a successful children’s author things weren’t perfect but everything was okay, wasn’t it?
The three women are about to have their lives turned upside down in very different ways, when the dust settles will they find their happy ever after?
This is a lovely story of friendship and how love can find you when you least expect it. It is funny, moving and the perfect antidote to those January blues.
I did enjoy this book but it took me a while to finish. Story didn’t seem to grip me, I have read loads of Jill’s books and will still read anything else by her, but not her best book, in my opinion.
Ending was a little predictable before I got the halfway through the book, I did like characters Ruby and Lottie.
