Review for 'Snowed In' by Catherine Walsh.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Catherine Walsh, Bookouture publishers, Bookouture Audio and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 1st November 2023.
This is the fifth book I have read by this author. I have previously read her debut novel 'One Night Only', The Rebound' 'The Matchmaker' and 'The Holiday Romance' and would highly recommend them all!! It is also the second book in the 'Catherine Walsh Christmas Romcoms' series but can be read as a standalone. 'The Holiday Romance' is the first book in this series which I have read and would highly recommend!!
This novel consists of a prologue, 32 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
'Snowed In' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Catherine discusses/includes controlling relationships.
LOVE, LOVE, LOOOOOOVVVEEE , LOVED IT!!! ANOTHER HUGE WELL DONE CATHERINE ON YET ANOTHER ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC BOOK ♥!!!
This is a fantastically written book that has vivid descriptions which will make you feel that you are breathing the Irish air, feeling the festivities and falling in love !! It takes you on a journey to Ireland and I was devastated when I had to pack my case to come back home and leave Ireland behind 😭 The title, synopsis and cover suit the storyline perfectly.
🎶 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas 🎄🎁 🎶
The storyline itself is romantically charged and filled with love, friendship, Christmas, community, family, comedy, romance, arguments, emotional angst, snow, fun and absolutely everything you could want in an absolutely stunning rom com!!! It made me laugh, cry, scream, shout, angry and jump for joy!! Throughout the pages of this stunning book there are tears, happiness, disasters, laughter, secrets, romance, friendship and Sparks flying everywhere!! Catherine's evocative writing skills brings the story life and one minute tour chilling at home with the book in your hand and the next you've been sucked straight into Ireland and snowed in a stunning log cabin. The atmosphere was gorgeous and I was completely swept away!! This book had me in stitches on several occasions and at other times left me sitting there going awww and getting some very strange looks!! There was plenty going on and I absolutely loved every moment of it. The storyline is unique and I think it is such a fantastic plot I really would love to see this turned into a movie!! I would be the first barging their way in front to get tickets!! I would absolutely love to visit Ireland again to see how everyone gets on!!
DO NOT START THIS UNTIL YOU CLEAR YOUR SCHEDULES AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN!!!!
This is one of the few books that I have listened to 100% on Audiobook. If I listen to a book on audiobook I usually also read the physical book between but for the second time I listened to the whole book and I was impressed! I must say a HUGE congratulations to the narrators Colm Gleeson and Roisin Rankin who both did an amazing job bringing this story and the charac
'Her First Child' by Sheryl Browne, 'The Suspect' by Kathryn Croft and 'My Daughters Boyfriend' and 'Her Husband's Mistake' by Daniel Hurst that were all also narrated by Tamsin Kennard and I would highly recommend listening to or reading them all as it they re other fantastic page turners from other great authors!! I would listen to it in the car and while walking at any opportunity. I'm not only looking forward to reading more books by Sue but also to listening to more books narrated by both Tamsin and Alison!
There were so many large and unique personalities in this book and thanks to Catherine's amazing writing skills each and every one of them came alive. I fell in love with both Megan and Christian who were absolutely adorable and both such likeable and relatable characters. They were great together and I loved seeing their interactions and watching their characters, personalities and relationships grow and develop through the pages. Catherine always creates such amazing characters that I always become immediately invested in and am gutted to say goodbye to and this book with these fantastic characters were no exception!!! I absolutely LOVED watching all the seperate relationships develop and change between the characters and I would love to see where each goes and what they get up to next!! This book was filled with a lovely range of characters and I would absolutely love to meet them all again!! Hint hint Catherine 😉 Regardless of whether you love or hate the characters they all worked perfectly together to make an absolutely gorgeous storyline so a huge WELL done to Catherine for bringing them to life!!
Yet another stunning read by Catherine!! If you are looking for that perfect read to lift your spirits, and keep you hooked then what are you waiting for??
Well done Catherine on yet another stunning page turner and for making me laugh, swoon and smile!!! I'm looking forward to your next success!!! This is exactly why you ae on pcom authors list ♥

Catherine Walsh never disappoints!!
If you think that the beginning of november it’s too soon to be reading christmas romcoms, ehem excuse me no it’s not.
This is fake dating excellency. And the getting snowed in and have to stay in a cabin in the mountains and act on their feelings? muawh chef’s kiss.
She has this way of creating amazing and witty banter which is a joy to read. This one has also beautiful character development and touched a lot of touching topics like trauma, therapy and familial relationships.
I loved the family element of this one.
Honestly, i have nothing to complain about except that this is a perfect christmas read.
If you are wanting a cute winter love story, look no further. Snowed In is a quick read, but it is such a lovely Holiday Romance. Megan runs out on her wedding and doesn't want to come back to her hometown with people looking to judge her on her decision. She runs into Christian (her old friend) in Dublin, and he convinces her to go back to their hometown together pretending to be in a relationship. The two start to develop feelings from this fake relationship, and they get to a point that neither one can deny it anymore. They no longer want to stick the rules. Sometimes rules are meant to be broken. You get to experience them with their families and getting over past issues. The banter between characters was also great. It was quite comical. Joking with each other is a love language, right? This is a must read if you are craving a cute holiday romance along with light family drama.
Thank you to the author and Bookouture via NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review
I loved the first book in this series and couldn't wait for this one!
Megan ran away to Dublin 4 years ago leaving the village golden boy Isaac at the altar. Christian lives in the same village also lives in Dublin for his job.. Christian is tired being the odd man out every Christmas and after an encounter in a pub, realizes that he and Megan can help each other out by fake dating to handle their family's expectations of them. of course, sparks fly...
It has some of my favorite troupes: fake dating, small town romance and friends to lovers
This was a cozy quick read and perfect for the season.
Thanks to NetGalley for the Arc. All opinions are my own.
🔹 My take: 4.25/5
🔸Megan ran away to Dublin 4 years ago leaving the village golden boy Isaac at the altar. She did not return thereafter dreading the onslaught her family, friends & village locals would subject her too. Christian lives in the same village & has moved to Dublin since few years for his job. Christian is tired of the quizzical eyes his family gives every Christmas when he sits alone while others are coupled up. A chance encounter in Dublin pub gives Christian a freak idea to fake date Megan which would help both of them to handle their respective families. Rules are set and a contract is signed on a wine stained napkin that they will sit through each other’s family gatherings until they are freed of their annual obligations. But with old flames, two big families and common friends things are bound to get messy. And with a snowed in cabin and Christmas magic thrown in; sparks fly and things unplanned start happening..
💖 Wows - One of my fav author - publisher duo has created magic yet again. I was so glad when I got selected for DRC. The checkboxes ticked:
✅ Fake dating
✅ Friends to lovers
✅ Forced proximity
✅ Small town romance
✅ Runaway bride
✅ Road trip
I loved Christian, Megan and their funny banter. Christian was always so supportive, understanding, soft spoken and Megan so bold, outright - speaking what came to her mind that they were perfect examples of opposites attract. Plus dual POVs did wonders to the story.
💔 Ows - This book has spicier scenes compared to earlier books I have read Catherine so you might want to skip those if uncomfortable. & I found the start like first 20% a bit slow.
💫 This is my 3rd book by Catherine Walsh & I am getting into a habit to read a cozy romance from her this time of the year. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Thanks to @catwalshwriter @bookouture and @netgalley for sharing the DRC in exchange for honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC for review.
This was a light, easy, fun holiday romance book. Megan and Christian are acquaintances who each have their different reasons for not wanting to go home at the holidays. They agree to fake-date to help take some pressure off from their families.
Did this have a predictable ending? Sure, but that doesn't keep the journey from being fun! I liked the dual narration and enjoyed their journey!
✨My Thoughts✨
Thanks for my spot on this tour and a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
The first chapter had me on the edge of my seat, why would Megan decided to leave her fiancée Isaac at the altar and become a runaway bride? I had a feeling that it would be a very valid reason.
Oh my this is quite possibly the best book of this genre I’ve read this year, it has all the ingredients that keep you turning page after page!.
The fake dating trope had me smiling so hard, Christian is just perfect for Megan in every way possible and she’s perfect for him.
This was just so cozy to read, I read it with the rain pouring down outside all snuggled up on the sofa.
I want to read more by this exciting author.
If you're looking for a feel good fake dating holiday romance, this is it. I adored this story and the developing relationship between Christian and Megan. They had chemistry from the very beginning and the slow burn was totally worth it. I hadn't read the previous book but it's definitely on my to be read after this, and I'm glad I could easily read this without having read it as well. Thank you to the author and Bookouture for the advanced copy!
Two people who are dreading going home to their families for Christmas. You will fall in love with the main characters. It’s a lovely heartwarming story. Great for curling up with in front of the fire or a holiday read.
“I’ve been searching for something my whole life and nothing’s ever clicked. And I think it’s because I was looking for you. I’m falling in love with you. I’m falling hard and fast and I don’t want to stop."
Rating: 4.5/5
- Childhood friends to strangers to friends to lovers
- Fake dating for the holidays
- Set in small-town Ireland
- Snowed in
- No breakup
- Dual POV
Snowed In starts with Megan seeing her old school friend, Christian outside her wedding as she’s attempting to escape. Five years later, they serendipitously bump into each other (literally) at a Dublin pub.
Christian walks her home and when he realises they’ll both be heading back to their village over the holidays extremely single, he suggests a fake dating arrangement. Megan thinks he’s crazy but it doesn’t take long for him to convince her.
This book is brimming with sarcastic banter, which is 100% my cup of tea. I couldn't get enough of it. Even when he's trying to seduce her they can't help being witty with each other. Case in point: "You're wet." "We're in the water." "My mistake, I'll work harder."
I loved how Christian seemed to anticipate Megan’s needs without her saying anything. In the beginning, he was there for her as a friend, until they slowly became more. Besides their banter, their honest communication was my other favourite thing. All it took was Christian saying "No more pretending" and no breakup followed.
Add in great character development, fun family moments and some delicious snowed-in forced proximity and you have another winner from Catherine. The audiobook is also fantastic thanks to those Irish accents! I could listen to them all day!
Four years ago Megan left her fiance at the alter and now she needs to go back to the village, where her ex-fiance is now engaged again, but soon she bumps into Christian who is also in a dilemma during the holidays. Deciding they can help each other out the two fake a relationship, but it isn’t long until the two characters develop feelings for one another and maybe it’s not fake after all.
This is a great holiday romance, full of fake dating and character personal growth.
Walsh has given us a funny and entertaining read, with pages I laughed out loud to. The narrative is told through the characters of Megan as well as Christian giving us both sides to their emotional feelings towards one another.
This author is one on my go-to list and never disappoints.
I know I was a little grumpy about holiday books a while back but it was just a phase. I have read a few now and while not full out in Christmas mode, I am definitely ready for some Christmas romcoms.
This one hit the spot. It did take me a moment to warm up and love the main characters (could be me and that grumpy thing I mentioned), but I did and ended up loving this one. Megan as a run away bride and Christian as her protector. I didn’t know how much I liked the fake dating trope until last year, but I love it when it is done well and it is here.
There is some witty banter and this is my third book close together with an isolated cabin in the woods, but the use is quite different than in the other thrillers I read. There are a couple of side stories about a proposal and resolving Megan’s runaway bride slights.
While there are a couple of slightly spicy scenes, but this could really be a Hallmark movie. (but they kiss before the last page)
If you need a little romance, a laugh and some holiday spirit, you need this book!
I love a laugh-out-loud romcom. They have to be my absolute favourite kinds of stories because the banter is always top-notch. And I LOVE banter. All the banter, all the time. Yes, please!
Catherine did a perfect job with the banter and the progression of the plot. I loved every second of reading this book. So much so that I've read it twice because why the hell not?! There were the sweet moments, the moments of truth, and everything in between that makes a funny book like this really stand out. I love Megan so much, I relate to bits and pieces of her quite a bit, and that endeared her to me all the more. As for Christian, well, I need one of him, too. He's sweet and charming, and he KNOWS how to woo a gal. He's exactly what you want the rom-com hero to be.
I will not be taking questions at this time over my ABSOLUTE ADORATION of this book or the fact that I read a Christmas book before Halloween. We all need a palate cleanser, and this was the perfect book to shake off all those spooky reads!
This book was so sweet and such a cute wintery & holiday read! The plot and fake-dating trope worked so well and I adored Christian and Megan. I will say, I wish there was a little more drama (aka I love a break-up/second chance moment and there wasn’t one) but over all it was so cute! It put me in the holiday spirit for sure. I also now want a man to do a christmas movie night surprise for me, but it has to be Elf.
Megan doesn’t really want to go home for the holidays, but her brother is visiting for the first time in a while. Christian doesn’t want to go home either. But when they run into each other at a pub after not seeing each other for years, an idea starts to form. Maybe if they go home together, pretending to be a couple, then the holidays can be bearable after all.
I’ve read a few books by Catherine Walsh now. I gave last year’s Holiday Romance 4.5 stars, but funnily enough I didn’t even remember that the same characters were in this book. Oops. It’s not required to read the first book, as the two relationships are separate. But going back and reading my review of Holiday Romance, I don’t think I enjoyed this one quite as much, but it was still a really cute romance. I love a fake dating trope, and I really liked that they didn’t deny when feelings started to form, they just adjusted and went with the flow. There was some decent spice, and some funny banter that kept me rooting for Megan and Christian throughout.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of this book!
I received this book from NetGalley.
Let's be honest, we all know exactly how this book is going to go, and that's one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much. It was a fun, easy, holiday read. I liked the characters, all of them, which doesn't happen often.
Christian is amazing and I would have had no hesitation in pretending to be his girlfriend! Megan was a likeable character as well.
Something I really enjoyed was there wasn't some huge miscommunication that pulled them apart and then brought them back together. It was simple, feel good, and a fun read.
Thanks so much NetGalley and Bookouture.
This is a cute holiday romance where Megan and Christian dread going home for the holidays so they draw up a contract to be each other's fake partners. They get snowed in, so will Christmas work its magic?
I loved the characters. This was so funny, and Walsh is such a great writer. I will be reading more of her!
Snowed In by Catherine Walsh
I adored Holiday Romance last year and I was thrilled to see a story for Christian. This book was amazing. It was incredibly entertaining and fun. I immediately loved Christian and Megan and didn’t want to stop reading about them. I loved Megan’s storyline as she returns home after 5 years to face her ex-fiancé and ex-friends.
This is honestly an entirely perfect holiday romcom that had all the Christmas cozy vibes and a fake dating trope. Quirky side characters (really loved the parents), a snow storm, long car rides and a hot tub. This is exactly what I want in a romcom anytime of year, interesting characters and a realistic (yet fun) storyline, no miscommunications and laugh out loud moments. Highly recommend this one, along with Holiday Romance if you didn’t read it last year! These books have hilarious banter and a lot of chemistry.
Thank you to @bookouture for my early copy, I’m going to buy myself a paperback so it can join my annual holiday rereads. This one came out last week!

So much fun! I really enjoyed this book. Lighthearted and fun. A little bit of spice but not super graphic. Frequent use of mild curse words. Definitely recommend if you’re in the mood for a fun Christmas romance.
Thank you to netgalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of the ebook for my honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture for the eARC!
I’m starting early with the holiday rom coms because I just can’t wait any longer!! And SNOWED IN was the perfect one to kick off the season❄️🫶🏼This adorable book had absolutely everything I love in a seasonal romance & literally all of my favorite tropes. I was totally smitten by Christian from the start. The banter & the spark between Christian & Megan was just swoon worthy. Their families were so cute & endearing & I especially loved Mr. Fitzpatrick🥹. The author did a great job with the subplots also. Everything was tied up perfectly & ended just the way I wanted it to. I also may or may not have picked up knitting after finishing this book last night🤪I can’t wait to read Molly & Andrew’s story, Holiday Romance, next!
