Yet another fabulous five star read from Ms Marsons! I utterly adore this series and catching up with Kim Stone and the gang will always be a roller coaster. Exhilarating and tense throughout this story is another perfect instalment to the series.
I don't know how Angela Marsons does it. To consistently write books of this quality. I always feel involved in her books. They are not just stories. Her characters especially Kim's team always appear flesh and blood people. They have each other's backs. especially in this book where the dynamic has been upset by one of the team acting out of character. The professional relationship between Kim and Bryant is wonderful, he always seems to read her mind. A five star award is just not enough for the enjoyment this book gave me.

I have not read all the books in this series but I call myself a DI Kim Stone fan!
Story starts when Detective Kim Stone and her team are called out to a crime scene.
The man is still alive but his body that has been deliberately posed; it appears the attacker is sending a message. Eric Gould is the victim and dies. The investigation team discover when he was a teen he was accused of attacking his girlfriend. Soon another victim is found: it appears both the victims were once part of a teen group known as the ‘Psycho Six who committed terrible crimes. It seems someone getting revenge… or do they believe these men are still dangerous?
Before the killer strikes again, Kim knows she must find the other members of the original six
It is rather easy as they were so well know – Ian Perkins may have been the ringleader then there was Nathan Yates, Dean Newton and Leyton Parks.
Kim tried to contact Ian Perkins however when he was released from prison eight years ago she left with under another identity- it seems he is in the witness protection program. ~ Things certain get more interesting.
I did get caught up in all of this; but I found this story more disturbing than the others.
When I read “A Letter from Angela’ I understood that she was in a dark place at the time she was writing this story. Her mother died suddenly-certainly an unexpected loss. She states it was difficult to free her mind to allow creativity to roam ~ yet writing is her best friends to escape. Once she immersed herself into Kim’s world she has the space to accept her loss.
She did indeed put Kim in a new situation in this story!
I certainly am looking forward to Angela’s next Kim story!
Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this great early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for November 15, 2023
This is the nineteenth book in the Kim Stone series by author Angela Marsons. This is another exciting read and I find it hard to believe this really is the nineteenth book in the series.
Detective Kim Stone is called on to investigate the case of a ruthless killer who is terrorising the streets. When Kim Stone arrives at the crime scene she is met with the paramedics who are desperately attempting to save the life of a man. But unfortunately the paramedics efforts are in vain and Kim is facing a killer on the loose who has left no evidence.
This is a well thought out plot and the victim Eric Gould is surrounded in mystery, with a history of violence and abuse which makes Kim wonder if someone was trying to prevent history from repeating itself. The novel is well paced and it gradually starts to expose dark secrets that make it clear that the killer is sending out a chilling message. The victims are sinners.
The suspense builds throughout as Kim searches for answers and faces a race against time to work out the killer’s motive. This is a complex case that keeps the reader guessing with lots of twists and turns as most good thrillers have. A gripping page-turner that is an excellent addition to this very enjoyable series.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Detective Kim Stone and the team are back to investigate a body found under a tree, however, much to pathologist, Keates horror, he is not actually dead…yet. The victim was found with broken bones and posed in a strange position. It is not long before a second body, which is definitely dead this time, is found in a similar macabre fashion. Stone and the team receive information that the victims were part of a gang in a youth offenders facility and fear the rest of the gang could also be in danger.
Another fantastic read, with an intensely gripping plot and on going story with Kim and her teams personal lives. You can’t go wrong with reading any of the Kim Stone books. First class writing!
Absolutely great to be back with my favorite detectives. This series just keeps on getting better. I'm here for all of it. Highly recommend the whole series. One of the best authors out there.
I loved catching up with Kim and her team
The book was easy to read and has a great plot. The author has put such a mixture of delightful characters together and I am happy to have followed them through all the books. The rock climbing scene had me laughing out loud and the structure of the book kept me well entertained.
This series never fails to give me pleasure. Thank you to the author
The victim is lying under the trees, arms lifted above his head, unnaturally still. His muscles are slack. His eyes are empty. There are no signs of life. But he is not quite dead…
When Detective Kim Stone races to the crime scene, there is no body waiting for the paramedics are desperately trying to save the victim’s life. But there is something very strange about the way the man was found, his arms raised above his head, his legs spread apart. When he dies on the way to the hospital, Kim is certain she’s on the hunt for a killer… but all evidence at the scene has been destroyed.
The dead man, Eric Gould , seems ordinary, until the team dig into his past. As a teenager, he was locked away for attacking his girlfriend, and Kim suspects he was hurting his fiancé now. Was someone trying to stop history repeating?
I can't believe we are at book 19 of this series, just shows the strength of not only the excellent writing but also the well thought out story lines that Angela Marson's provides to the reader. I read this last night when I could not sleep and I doubt I would have put it down even if I could have. Once again Kim is faced with another baffling case and again shows us how smart and tough she is, I just love her character. Always thinking of her victims and will go above and beyond to get the bad guys and find some solace for those affected. And believe me some of these bad guys are very bad, just what keeps us so engaged. Stacey is also dealing with her own set of problems and in this book her relationship with Devon will be tested.
Sometimes a series can go on for too long, ideas may become repetative and we may think it is time to put the characters to bed but this is definitely not with case with the Kim Stone Series. I hope these books continue on for some time to come, I know I will purchase them without even reading what the book is about. I have no doubts I will be receiving another wonderful book. Thank you Angela Marsons, Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions are my own.
This book is another excellent story starring DI Kim Stone and her team. Those who know this authors work won't be surprised by this conclusion. They already know, before even having opened the book, that they are in for a treat and won't be disappointed.
Kim, you are such a great character. You had me in stitches whilst reading the first few pages. The banter there is between her and Bryant and her and Keats is just hilarious. It's a pity they are not real life people, because I think we could have been besties then.
I love the chemistry floating around the police team although the atmosphere might have been a bit frosty for a while between certain members.
Kim is being Kim and I would not like her to change. She goes the whole nine yards for those she loves and won't rest before she has uncovered every last detail.
So yes this book, which is nothing short of impressive, is a must read, pure and simple. 5 stars
Thank you
Bad Blood (Detective Kim Stone Book 19) by Angela Marsons has a very good storyline with lots of red herrings and surprises along the way to keep you on the edge of your seat.
There are definitely fine lines between loyalty and police procedure in this book. And never a dull moment, as I couldn't read fast enough. I love, love, love Kim and her team. They are like old friends, and I love the banter and the dialogue between the characters and the sarcasm. I love the interactions between Kim and Alison.
It's hard to say goodbye to these characters at the end of the story. I cannot wait for more!!
#BadBlood #NetGalley @Bookouture
Love the Kim Stone novels. Great writing and premise. Amazing characters. Page turner. Plenty of suspense to keep me guessing..Definitely looking forward to the next offering. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it
Oops I think she’s did it again,
She’s made me believe Kim and the team are my friends
Oh Angie
It might seem insane
But I am serious
With each book you up your game
Oops, she did it again
She played with my mind, I got lost in her game
Oh Kim
Oops, I think it’s divine
When your team solves the crime
And fight for the innocent
But you see my problem is this
I'm dreaming away
Wishing that Kim and the team, they truly exist
I cry, having to put down my book
Can't you see I'm always late for my work
I lose all my senses
That is just so typically me when I
Pick up your book and you hook me!
I’m starting to get lost for words here, are there actually any words left to let the world know just how much I love Kim Stone and her team? I’m not sure, but I’ll try my very best!
Opening the pages of this book and all of this series, is like opening the door to home. As soon as I step inside the pages, I’ve crossed the threshold into what feels like a place I was always meant to be here. I know these guys, I feel their emotions, their pain and their joys. Honestly these characters are so multi layered that they come to life before my eyes.
In Bad Blood, someone is sending messages and not by WhatsApp or email! They are leaving bodies on the brink of death and posing them into shapes you would not think to be humanly possible. The question is whether or not Kim and the team will work out what that message is before the final count is reached.
Angela Marsons has created a quite magnificent cast of characters in this series and she really does stick them up trees and through very large rocks at them in each outing! This time around, without any spoilers for those of you who haven’t read the whole series (though I can’t imagine who such people might be!) Stacey finds herself at the centre of ongoing unwanted attention that takes a very sinister turn of events and leads to her being the subject of Kim Stone’s ire!
And talking of Kim, when she has to contact someone from her professional past, we really do have a peek into the vulnerability that is this woman as she looks on at her team and sees the family she has created and a little part of her realises just how alone she really is. I did shed a wee tear at this!
Oh and there is just such an awesome scene between Penn and Lynne, that really will melt the iciest of hearts…well it melted mine and my heart is pretty icy I can tell you!
With each chapter the reader is teased with the most delectable titbits, drawing you in deeper, making you believe you have solved the case before pulling the rug from under your feet. I get so engrossed in these books that I start to believe I am part of Kim’s team!
As with the rest of this series, Bad Blood, has numerous threads running through it, and as a reader you are taken down a murky path of moral ambiguity as Angela Marsons tackles some quite topical social issues and moral dilemmas without ever making the reader feel that they are being lectured to. Rather what she does, is create a space and concepts for you to contemplate and in this book when we learn about the backgrounds of the victims, it really does test your morals. When is it ok to take revenge… I know what my answer is (and I’m not telling)!
If you haven’t read any of Angela Marsons books then seriously, what are you waiting for! Get out there and get downloading! And my verdict on Bad Blood…
.OOPS ANGIE YOU DID IT AGAIN! GENIUS!
love angela marsons kim stone books they never dissapoint easy too read and get into and always some twists and turns you dob't expect
Kims attitude just makes me smile more so in this book with the things she gets up too. I love the relationship with all characters and how protective they are of each other and how it comes out in different ways.
It was interesting on Both sides cos i didnt see either person coming
great read once again..
I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. This is the nineteenth book in the series following Kim Stone and her team, and once again it is a brilliant book with so many twists and the two stories running parallel really made you think. I cannot wait for the next one.
This is book #19 of the fabulous Kim Stone series. Whilst it can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading it in series order for better understanding of the storyline, this one especially as we carry on with Stacey's storyline from the previous book.
This was yet again another fantastic read! I absolutely love this author and will always put everything aside for one of her new books. The storyline is gripping, twisty, turny and very VERY addictive! It's also full of humour with Stone and Bryant's banter making me laugh out loud every single time! The investigation is again a difficult one to crack and I loved the visits into the juvenile offending system and delving into the shady world of vigilantes. The storyline had me hooked from page one and the end of each chapter had me wondering who the killer could be.
As I say in every review for this series, I live in the Black Country so visiting areas I've heard of and where many of them are literally on my doorstep is so thrilling and I can picture the scenes as I read! I shall especially be keeping my eyes open in future as I skirt the edges of the Wrens Nest Estate for the Black Country Angels!
Of course, what makes this series for me is DI Kim Stone herself! She is just amazing and if I only had one detective to read about in every future book it would have to be her! Her character is instantly likeable, even if she is a little "grumpy" at times and if she ever felt the need for a best friend...I'm right here! Clever, smart, gritty, gutsy and with a mean sense of humour what more could you want from a lead character!
This book was amazing! With such an original storyline, the characters, locations and writing has once again had me hooked and I loved every single word! What more can I say other than fab, fab, fab! Write faster please!
As I had bought the previous book, but hadn’t got around to reading it, once the publisher and Netgalley offered me this one, I read it and then carried on with Bad Blood. Well, I’m so glad I did, because although it can be read as a standalone, it helped refresh my memory of what had gone on and especially when Stace is being stalked by this dreadful man.
I really felt for Stacey and in someways could understand her reticence in telling anyone, especially her being a police officer.
The team are looking for a vigilante killer who appears to be taking out people who have committed crimes, and who have got away with them. I, for my part, was delighted, as often is the case when the punishment doesn’t fit the crime. It puts Kim in an invidious position and grey area, because as a human being you would want reprisals for these heinous crimes, but as a police officer punishment has to be in the correct form.
This was an absolute fabulous book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and read it in a day.
The only thing I would say, is why have the publishers taken “Kim” off the book cover, because the girl/lady was just as I imagined her in my minds eye. Please bring her back!!
My thanks to Angela, the publishers and Netgalley for the ARC.
I mean my reviews for this series must be getting boring and repetitive, but would you really expect anything other than a five star review?
I look forward to this series so much, that when I see a new one is avaliable I can't click quick enough to get it in my hands.
Once again, Angela Marsons nailed this. I thought for sure I had this guessed and was just waiting for it all to unfold. But jokes on me because how far wrong I was. I should have known better!
Kim Stone and her team are thrown into a new case, but the story of relationships behind the main storyline just tugs at your heart strings and has you routing for the group dynamic to work out.
I find it so hard to review these books due to not wanting to give anything away. Everyone hates a spoiler. So all I will say is just read this series. The characters are like them friendships that no matter how much time has passed its like you saw them yesterday. Just one of the many aspects I love so much about Angela Marsons writing in these books.
I can’t believe that this is book 19! Angela Marsons is prolific and terrific. All of these 19 books have been so awesome. Each story is so unique, as is each character. Kim Stone is still my favourite, what an amazing police woman she is after everything she went through as a child. I can’t wait to see what actress is chosen to play her in the series that has just been announced. Someone like a young Helen Mirren for sure. I’m so excited for it, and book number 20.
You'd think by book 19 Angela Marsons would be running out of ideas but clearly not! I always enjoy being back with Kim and her team, they are such easy reads and never get boring and Bad Blood was no different. It was fast paced, action packed and original. The final twist got me good! I really love this series and the characters, it's always top of my recommendations list and very much so a drop everything and read immediately! It was recently announced that BBC have optioned the tv rights for the series, eeeeeppp!! Can we start a petition for Vicky McClure to play Kim 😂 Bad Blood can be read as a stand-alone but as always, I recommend going back to the start to really get to know the characters and how they've developed over the series.
Huge thanks to @netgalley and @bookouture for the arc in exchange for an honest review
Before I start my review proper, I just want to say how much I loved this book!!
I am a massive fan of the books in the DI Kim Stone series and always give a little squeal of delight when a new book is released and it did feel like there had been a really long wait between books 18 and this latest release, book 19 – Bad Blood so as soon as it landed on my Kindle I changed my plans, stopped reading my current book and set to reading this one – and it was a brilliantly additive page turner!
I love the author’s writing style and everything about this series works for me, I love the chapter length and the characterisation, picking up a copy really does feel like I am catching up with old friends having been reading the series from day one. The book picked up from the ending of the last book in terms of the supporting characters and I was really keen to see what would happen with Stacey and the others in the team. I was really pleased to see that Alison was back in this book, I love her personality and how she fits in so well with the team.
There were twists and turns, a few red herrings thrown in and plenty to keep me on my toes. It is no hesitation from me in giving this one 5 stars – quite possibly the best crime thriller I have read this year and cannot wait for book 20 – very highly recommended!
