I love Kim.
Angela Marsons is one of my favourite authors, simply because of Kim. And that we’re both from a similar part of the world.
Kim has to deal with some really awful crimes, but she and her team always manage to hang together and support each other and get the job done, get the crime solved.
I don’t honestly know what else I can say about this. I really enjoyed it.
The team is dealing with two issues in this story. Stacey, who usually is in charge of the tech research, is having problems and refuses to discuss it with anyone. She makes an error in the case and Kim calls her out and discovers Stacey has a stalker. Having Kim mad at her, makes Stacey realize she had got to tell people. Shortly after, the stalker is found dead in a hit and run, which adds to the problems to solve when it looks like Stacey's wife Devon could be a suspect. Meanwhile the team, Kim, Bryant, and Penn, is dealing with a group of men who are dying of fentanyl poisoning. They race to figure out who is poisoning them and why. There are secrets and mysteries to uncover and solve as all is not as it seems. There are several twists to each mystery so that by the end, Kim's view of crimes and punishment being black and white is moving towards a shade of grey.
This is the book #19 in the Detective Kim Stone series. I love this series and cannot wait to read the next installment. Highly recommend!
When a man is found and believed to be dead, Detective Kim Stone is called to the scene. He wasn’t gone yet but passed away at the hospital. Now Kim has to determine whether he died of natural causes or something sinister.
Soon, another victim is found in the same manner. The officers found that the victims shared a past in their teenage years. Is someone targeting a specific group? Kim and her team need to track down the rest of the set before they become targets. Will they find the killer in time?
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Another fabulous instalment in the Kim Stone series; Ms Marsons never puts a foot wrong! This one very much focuses back on the personal lives of the detective team, with the continuation of a storyline from the last book, although of course there are still crimes to solve. As ever, the perfect mix between the two.
A member of DI Kim Stone 's team is being stalked and Stacey is trying to deal with it by herself without letting anyone else know. In the meantime the team is trying to deal with a series of murders without any links which is baffling them all. Will they be able to solve this or will one of the become a victim.
The series is another good read and part continuation from the previous book. Totally intriguing and enjoyable. Loved it
Bad Blood is the 19th book in the Detective Kim Stone series from Angela Marsons.
"Kim is called to the scene of a murder, but when she gets there, paramedics are trying to save the victim. His past has a history of violence. Another man is found on the verge of death. He is eventually linked to a group that preyed on others. Is someone out for revenge? Who else was in the group? How are they linked?
Kim and her team must quickly find answers to these questions before more are killed."
Marsons usually has a couple of themes in her crime novels. This book looks at family - what is is and what it means for different people. And the lengths that people will go to, to protect family. She also looks at vigilantes and revenge.
I was glad to see the stalking storyline from the last book resolved (not a fan of cliffhangers) There is a lot of tension there until it's resolved. A few conversations would have taken care of it earlier but characters don't always do that.
It's great to that Stone keeps growing and changing. In a long series, it works better when characters are not static. All of the team have changes in this book - new relationships and repairing old ones.
Carzy twist at the end of this one. Marsons hides the killer in plain sight again.
This is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone. More great crime fiction from Marsons.
Thank you for my copy of this book to read and review.
I have read all of the Kim Stone books in order so couldn’t wait to start this one.
I love the familiarity of the characters and I always know I’m going to enjoy these stories before I even start reading. I’m always hooked from the first chapter and this one was no exception.
I thought the plot was original, even with this being book number 19, all the stories are different. They never get boring.
Although these books can be read as standalone, I would definitely recommend reading them in order as there is continuity with the characters and Kim’s background.
A 5star police detective series! I recommend this author and these books to anyone that will listen!
Bad Blood by Angela Marsons
This book is the 19th in the Kim Stone novels , how did that happen !
I've read and loved every one and feel I know the protagonist as if she were a real person.
Yet again the author has wrote another brilliant book that has a great plot and twists that surprise you.
DI Kim Stone is called out to a potential murder scene, but the victim is not as dead as he first appears. When he dies on the way to hospital Kim knows she won’t get any forensics from the crime scene after it was trampled by paramedics. Delving into the man’s background initially gives them nothing, but then they discover that as a youth he was detained in a young offenders’ unit.
When another man is found in strikingly similar circumstances Kim and the team find the two victims were in the unit together, is someone targeting the men because of their past crimes?
While the hunt is on to find the killer one of Kim’s team is suffering and doing their best to hide it but when their private life collides with their work life they know they need the support of their friends and colleagues. What will Kim do to protect one of her own?
If you enjoy a well written, thrilling, twisty read that will grip you on the first page and not let go until the last one you need to read this brilliant book.
I can't believe this series is on book 19 and all plots are different. I'm invested in Kim and her team and the way they interact. They feel real and believable with their highs and lows making the book humorous in places and sad in others (but that could just be me!). Kim had to deal with a serial killer while also trying to protect one of the team in this book and I didn't guess who was responsible for the deaths until revealed. I ended up reading it in one sitting
If you enjoy a quick read with suspense, police procedural and relationships, the Kim Stone series is for you.
Kim is back when a series of seemingly unrelated murders leads to a very sinister tie amongst the victims. While investigating a potential vigilante, Kim is also dealing with a level of disappointment with someone close to her and having a difficult time deciding if she was to be a protector, or punisher due to her feeling of betrayal. It would seem that the answers to the present lie in the past, and while trying to find both the murderer and the vigilante it becomes difficult to tell if they are one in the same.
I love the way the author writes the characters as having flaws, but also having strengths in their own respective areas. While they sometimes operate as a dysfunctional family there is a somewhat realistic portrayal of how people operate when they have been together for a length of time. Additionally when it is time find a killer they all pull together in spite of any differences they may have.
I do feel that there are numerous call backs to previous cases and characters that those new to the series may not understand, but none are so involved that a new reader would not be able to enjoy this as a stand alone.
I enjoy the Kim Stone series and always look forward to the next one.....although at some point Kim will have to move beyond some of her past trauma.
I was provided a copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinions.
The intoxicating allure of a series that refuses to wane—how does Angela Marsons manage to enthral us, time and time again? Gripping from the outset is a phrase so often touted in the literary world it borders on cliché. But clichés be damned, the latest installation in the DI Kim Stone series entangles you in a spider's web of suspense, from which there is no escape.
Marsons' narrative prowess is mesmerising, and her flair for imbuing characters with such authenticity that they metamorphose from mere ink-on-page to friends we've known for years. DI Kim Stone, the incorruptible sleuth at the heart of this whirlpool, yet again sails her ship through turbulent, crime-infested waters.
In Bad Blood, Kim and her team are confronted with a killer who, rather diabolically, poses his victims—still breathing, yet incapacitated. A dark twist that catapults an already compelling story into uncharted realms of narrative complexity.
What unfolds is a tale shrouded in moral ambiguity: victims who were hardly saints themselves and killers who just might be avenging angels—or are they? The line between justice and vengeance has rarely been so blurred, compelling us to question our own ethical compass.
Yet, it's not all grim and gritty. Marsons sprinkles nuance into the narrative with the ongoing emotional journey of Kim's colleague, Stacey, whose unresolved issues from the previous book return to haunt the team dynamics. No one exists in a vacuum; the fractures in one character's world ripple through, causing fissures in another's.
By the end, prepare for a twist that pirouettes gracefully on the stage of your expectations, leaving you awestruck and gasping for more. Yes, another 5-star marvel from Angela Marsons, and proof—if proof were needed—that the series has lost none of its appeal. If you're new to the series or a veteran, don't walk—run to get your hands on this electrifying read. Truly, another winner.
I don't know where Angela gets her ideas, but please don't stop ! This is another cracking book in a wonderful series, I have read them all, and look forward to each new one, This one was as twisty as you will ever get. I thought I had it sussed, but I was so wrong! Mistress of Deception Angela fooled me again and I loved it. This is a really good read ,and I have already recommended it to a friend really good., great thriller.
Absolutely loved this book, and could not put it down. Kim Stone was her usual headstrong self, running herself and her team into the ground. I love the dynamics that are built up with her team, the banter and the loyalty. it was a very clever storyline which had you guessing as to the result, especially as there were more than usual red herrings. It is a stand alone, but I would recommend anyone just discovering these books to read them all in order for maximum enjoyment..
Some long running crime fiction series become stale and predictable, but not this one! Angela Marsons manages to keep things fresh through excellent writing, strong plots and characters who you rally want to know about. The plot here is intriguing but the personal involvement of the principals adds to the strength of the story. Another excellent Kim Stone tale.
I really loved this police procedural by Angela Marsons, which is book number 19 in this awesome series! I have read nearly every book by Angela so far, and I have loved them all! This one was just as good as all the previous ones, and I loved being back with Kim and the team, who are just like a family. I love visiting them in each book, to see what they are getting up to, and I really like how it feels like we are inside each story with them.
In this book, Kim and her team have to investigate a killer who is abusing and killing people who have been bad people in their lives. They think they are getting rid of bad people, but they don't realise that they are also acting the same. Will Kim be able to figure out who is doing this?
I also enjoyed the little back-stories in the book, such as; what was happening with Penn and his partner, and what happened to Stacey with her stalker, as well as Stacey's love life with her wife.
I found it all very interesting, and exciting. I can't wait for the next book! I highly recommend this book, and all the books in this wonderful series!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
Angela Marson's latest crime thriller in her brilliant DI Kim Stone series set in Halesowen once again had me racing through the pages of an utterly gripping set of emotive storylines, whilst delighted to be reacquainting myself with a terrific set of familiar characters. Kim is summoned by Keats to the site of a dead body, only the weirdly posed victim, Eric Gould, though displaying no signs of life, strangely is not yet quite dead. He dies soon after, and after a little digging, it becomes clear that the victim was far from being a saint, having spent time at Welton Hall young offender's institute for assaulting his girlfriend, and the evidence indicates he hasn't changed, he has been hurting his fiance.
There are further murders in what seems like the work of a vigilante, with the social media savvy The Sentinel, targeting 'bad men', all connected to Welton, part of a group with a dreadful reputation for hurting and bullying staff and inmates. All is not well with Kim and her team, as Stacey finally comes clean about the horrors of being stalked, suffering in silence, the quality of her work deteriorating. Her wife, Devon, and Kim, do not handle the news well, shocked that they had been kept in the dark, and it's clear it is going to take some time for relationships to normalise. What is revealing is just how far Kim will go to protect Stacey, previously Kim was a stickler for adhering to the law and the rules, but here she ventures outside these lines. She and her team reflect on the notions of revenge and people prepared to act outside the law.
Marsons is a stellar and gifted crime writer, intelligent in her plotting, with her nuanced and detailed exploration of vigilante action from a number of angles, the theme of this addition to the series, plus the impact of being stalked with Stacey and Charlotte's experiences. One of the major reasons that this series is so popular is that the author intersperses the narrative with shards of light, usually with the banter within the police team. I was particularly amused by Kim's attempts to persuade psychologist Alison on a rock climbing holiday to return to the police team. As always, I am left eagerly anticipating the next in the series. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.
Kim and her team have a complex case in their hands, taking them back to the days of school boys with bad habits terrorizing other kids as well as adults. There are so many twists in the case that even the team talks about them. It is of course always a challenge looking into the pasts of many people wishing to forget about what happened, and many of them trying to protect themselves.
There is a lot going on in the lives of the team members as well, so it is an intensive time as well as an intensive read. Fear not though, Angela Marsons cannot write a bad book even if she tried her hardest. I love how some of the relationships between the team members seem to have lives of their own. I am still amazed how much there is to learn about Kim and everyone else, and naturally I am always delighted to read about Barney! Great, read, fantastic author!
Book 19! This series is superb and is as fresh at book 19 as it was at book 1. . A gripping 5 star crime thriller. Kim Stone and the team take on a baffling murder investigation. Meanwhile Stacy reveals what has been affecting her. These plots and stories are as much about the team as the investigations. Long may they continue
Absolutely amazing as usual! I have loved the Kim Stone series since book 1 and they just seem to be getting better with every book.
This book goes back to the ending of the previous and that story interleaves with a new story about 6 boys who left a young offender's institute some years ago.
Lots of twists and turns and all of the fabulous characters you'd expect to see. Can't wait for the next one!
