You know its a good story when you start imaging what actor could play each character if it was made into a movie.
I'll admit this was a little slow to start but once I got into it.......wow. twist after twist. Just when you think you've worked out the murderer wham another plot twist comes along and knocks your theory out of the park.
A great reat
Absolutely loved this book! Fast paced and keeps you interested all the way through. I devoured it in two days!. I listened to the audio which was well narrated and easy to follow. A modern thriller/whodunnit that keeps you guessing through out. Will definitely read more from this author and would recommend others to read also.
I'm sorry but what a bunch of vile characters and a plot with so many holes in it that I'm surprised that the narrator was skilled enough to keep me listening right through to the even more unbelievable end.
I really enjoyed listening to this book, the narrator was great and I felt a real connection to the characters. There was a great twist! Although was abit far fetched it was entertaining and kept me hooked
Oh my I absolutely flew through this book! The narrator Zoe made it such a fun popcorn thriller read. I had many “omg” moments and I was so locked in, in who the culprit could be! I was going to give it this book 4.5 stars but it scaled down to a 3.5 with the last remaining 4 chapters! I just couldn’t buy it and the reasoning made no sense! I wish it had been different. But with that said I love the authors writing style and will definitely read more of her work.
3.5 stars
I randomly requested this purely by the title and cover and wow I could not stop listening to this! I enjoyed the pov from each character and the narrator made this audio book and di an excellent job! Becca Day is a new author to me and have another one of her books to listen to next as I loved this one so much!
Huge thanks to Embla books and Netgalley for sending me this arc in exchange for my honest review
Another good book. This tale revolves around a group of women and the murder of one of their closest friends. Ad each story comes out, we discover every single one of them has a secret they were desperate should never see the light of day, but who was desperate enough to commit murder to stop this happening?
Nice twist or two will leave you reeling. Great ending.
My goodness this worked so well and the narration really suited the story - I just had to keep going. I had sort of guess who but then not really and not the why. I know there are a lot of these out there right now but it worked and it kept me captivated whilst working out what was going on.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
Was the plot slightly ridiculous. Sure, but it moved at a good pace and was an interesting take on the murder podcast concept.
Three women. One murder. Someone knows what they did...
When Frankie moved into her new home, it was a dream come true. Living on one of the most exclusive streets in the country, surely nothing bad could have followed her there. Her new neighbours - Zara, Nadine and Geneva - soon took her under their wing. The four women became inseparable...
Until the morning when Geneva's body was found on the beach. Suspicion was immediately cast on Geneva's husband, Elliott. Five years have passed by and he's out of prison.
And he's not the only one that people suspected - no one is beyond suspicion. And there’s a new face in town. Juniper Rose, a true crime YouTuber, has ideas for her next season to focus on Geneva’s death. With some digging, will she be able to piece together what happened five years ago?
How far will the 4 friends go to make sure their secret stays buried?
Review:
I was generously given an audiobook ARC for this thriller mystery - and let me tell you, what a way to soak up this story. The narrator, Zoe Mills, can paint quite the picture. I will say some of the voices put on did make me giggle at points but I think that was the point. There is such toxicity within the friendship group, and the blackmail from Geneva - let's just say there is no surprise to why she ends up dead.
I enjoyed that each chapter took on a different characters POV, it helped show each persons journey through the past events and of course, current day situations. There are so many twists and turns, you won't be able to stop listening/reading this one.
Despite being a new author to me, I'll be reading more of Becca Day's books that's for sure!
Thank you to Embla Books and NetGalley for this ARC!
TWs: infidelity, suicide, rape, blackmail, kidnapping, bullying
I realise that not all people with riches are unpleasant but the characters in this book are some of those I would do my best to avoid at all costs! Perhaps that is a good thing in this context as the murder in their community is something which no one would want to be party to. A great thriller but sorry not a favourite of mine as everyone was just so horrible!
The plot was ingenious and I really like the characters as well. If you’re looking for a fast pace story that you can get swept into fairly quickly this is the book for you.

The Secrets We Buried

I am totally convinced that this is my perfect psychological thriller. I was totally hooked from start to finish, raced through this and was completely shocked by the final few twists!
Zara, Frankie, Nadine and Geneva were the best of friends. They told each other everything - or did they really!?
Geneva was found dead 5 years ago and of course suspicion lay on her husband, Elliot. But when no real evidence could be found, the case went cold and nobody was charged with her murder.
Things changed and people moved away for various reasons, but on the 5th anniversary of Geneva's death, Juniper starts to dredge everything back up for her true crime YouTube channel. With Elliot also returning to the area too, everyone is feeling the pressure and stories start to slip.
Obviously every single character here was under suspicion. Each having their own secrets from each other and their reasons to want Geneva out of the way.
What was great, was that there was literally nothing given away too early and I honestly had no clue who the killer might have been at all even to the final reveal - which also then twists again after!
There were multiple storylines interwoven together - the past relationships the girls had together, the secret each had, the murder, beyond that day, present day events and also the true crime videos.
Each piece directing us towards the outcome, but giving nothing away!
The characters were authentic although not all likable! We see Geneva in flashback snippets and I'm really glad, as I can imagine that I'd have really disliked her as a full on character.
The writing style was brilliant - it was tense and exciting with no dips or slow points. I was on the edge of my seat and just couldn't stop listening!
An easy 5* for me - loved it! Will definitely be hunting out some more reads from this author soon.
💕Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC copy - this is my honest review 💕
Deep secrets amongst 4 friends, but 1 of them is murdered for her backstabbing. The husband got arrested and served 5yrs in prison, but it wasn't him who killed her, and he is released. So now, a Podcaster wants to introduce this case to her audience but what's more shocking is the rest of the secrets unveiled by the other friends. Complete twist in who killed the woman, you won't guess
Left on a cliffhanger, so is there another book coming out shortly as I would definitely read it
Thank you to Netgalley / Bonnier Audio UK
Retrial by media is the theme in this far-fetched, but fun, murder mystery. Frankie, Geneva, Nadine and Zara were all friends living on the exclusive Sandbanks peninsula in Dorset. When Geneva is found murdered on the beach her husband, Elliott, is the prime suspect and he is sent to prison. On his release, five years later, podcaster Juniper Rose picks up the case in an attempt to prove Elliott's innocence and starts to point the finger at her friends. There is plenty of suspicion, secrets and lies to keep the reader busy and the narrator keeps it pacey which makes it a more compulsive read. Told from alternate perspectives it definitely keeps you guessing. Thank you to Net Galley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
This is a yes from me another audio book I stormed through in a couple of days
There was a group of four friends but one of them was murdered and now there are three what really happened to Geneva
5 Years on a woman starts a blog "True Crime over Wine" and gets loads of followers she seems to find out a lot about what actually happened and secrets
As more comes to light maybe the three remaining friends know more than they are letting on about Geneva's murder.
Plenty of twists and turns
Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me the chance to listen to this book
I sped through this audiobook, hooked immediately to the premise of the story. Whilst I’m not a huge podcast fan, the type of people tho are hugely invested particularly in true crime podcasts fascinate me. Especially the ones who seem to solve cold cases. So the premise that a podcaster/YouTuber was planning to do just that had me intrigued. However about 1/2 way through my interest started to wane a little and it became a bit predictable, I’m pleased to say though that it certainly picked up pace and the resolution at the end was pretty satisfying! Thoroughly enjoyed the narration!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bonnier UK audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in return for an honest review.
The Secrets We Buried by Becca Day, an audiobook narrated by Zoe Mills was insane! I literally was so shocked by the twist that I gasped out loud - NO! And if I thought that was mad then epilogue blew my mind! I loved how Zoe Mills did narration ass it was like many layers, transcripts, and videos sounded different so was easy to follow.
The beginning was a bit confusing as so many characters come in straight away so I get lost but once I started to recognise who is who it was easier!
This was just a perfect and brilliant thriller!
Zara, Natalie, Geneva, and Frankie were friends that shared many secrets but when Geneva was found dead, everyone was asking "Who did it"? They didn't find the guilty one so fife years later YouTube True Crime Podcaster Juniper Rose decided to take investigation in her hands.
And this is where things starts to get messy, secrets starts to leak, everyone has motive but who is the killer no one knows!
I absolutely loved this book and definitely are curious to explore more books by this author!
A massive thank you NetGalley and Bonnier UK Audio for this fantastic opportunity to listen this audiobook!
Love affairs, lies, and scandalous secrets abound on Sandbank's Millionaire's Row, in this latest offering from Becca Day. Alongside the thrilling ride of toxic friendships are occasional moments of genuine hilarity, as Frankie, Nadine and Zara navigate the unravelling of their lives by a strangely determined and oddly well-informed YouTuber.
Brilliantly twisty and tremendous fun it's an enjoyable listen.
Spent all day in bed with a terrible aching body. Thus really helped. First time I’ve done an audio. Really enjoyed it.
