I liked Harrison Lane series for the originality as the main guy was an expert in rituals. There was of fascinating elements and a well done character
Saskia Monet is a more complex characters, this is an atmospheric and tense thriller that kept me on the edge. There's plenty of doubts and I was kept guessing till the end.
A good start for a new series
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
When children start going missing, the community begins to panic. No one knows whose child may be next, or what the end game is. It does not seem that the kidnapper is after money, but no one can figure out a motive. DC Winter and Profiler Saskia Monet work together to solve the mystery.
This was a good read. I was on the edge of my seat a few times, waiting to see what would happen next! I look forward to the next book in the series. I have a feeling they are only going to get better from here! A solid 4.5 stars!
Saskia Monet is a forensic psychologist who has moved back to Jersey where she was born but left when she was three. She is enjoying her work at La Moye Prison & has a particular interest in psychopaths- her father is one & she spends a lot of her time keeping her eye on her brother who definitely shows signs of that personality. When young children are snatched leaving behind a whistle & there is no ransom demand, DI Winter Labey calls on Saskia's profiling abilities in order to bring the children safely home.
This is a promising start to a new series. I enjoyed the setting of Jersey & Saskia & Winter were interesting characters. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me red & review this book. I'm looking forward to the next one.
This thriller was the first in the Saskia Monet series. From the beginning, I found the atmosphere eerie and chilling. I thought the author brought the characters to life quite well, and I became emotionally invested in the storyline. Saskia was a nice character, and I would be interested to see what she does next.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.
A very enjoyable read, with a mixture of likeable and dislikeable characters. I'm a bit worried about the brother but look forward to finding out more in the sequel.
The atmospheric island setting and the complex characters draw the reader into this crime mystery, which has police procedural and psychological suspense elements. The story's basis is revenge, and Saskia Monet is brought onto the case by DI Winter Labey to profile the perpetrator who has abducted several children from the island. The multilayered plot gradually reveals that Saskia's profiling skills are proficient, and the motive for the crimes is not what they first suspect. The first book in the series introduces the players and Saskia's backstory and family. The possibility of something more than a professional relationship between the detective and the forensic psychologist is hinted at, as is the chance of Saskia's past damaging her hard-won career and life. I like the characters' complexities, the dynamic between Saskia and Winter and the unpredictability of David, Saskia's brother.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the opportunity to read "The Stolen Ones" in exchange for my honest review.
The story starts with an unidentified man standing on the Jersey cliff staring out at the water. The author describes the scene so perfectly, you feel as if you were there and could feel the chill and the fog.
4 months later we meet Saskia Monet a forensic psychologist who works at Le Moye Prison and also assists the police as a profiler. We are also introduced to Detective Inspector Winter Labey when children on the island start disappearing. 3 children have been taken from well-off families and there has been no ransom demands. A wooden flute has been left as a sort of calling card at each abduction site.
The least likeable character is David- who is Saskia's younger brother. He's not a nice person and does mean and hurtful things when angry. He's what Saskia calls a high-functioning psychopath.
Katie Plover was taken from her dance class. Jessica Brown was taken when she was walking home from school. Lucy Carmichael was taken while being watched by her au pair. Oscar Keyes was taken as he slept in the family car as his parents were unloading the vehicle. What ties these children together? Do the families have ties?
The police department is skeptical about Saskia's profiling of the Pied Piper. But she seems to be spot on as the story moves along. She's convinced that money is not the motive and that there is some link between the parents. She feels that the Pied Piper will reach out to the families and try to get them to go it alone with the help of the police.
Des Carmichael is just the sort of character that thinks he's above the law and he will bring his daughter home. When we learn who the Pied Piper is, it's a shock as well as the reason why they are doing this. The story has a very open ending leading the reader to believe that there will be more books in the series to possibly tie everything up.
A new author for me and a really good crime thriller. Good setting on an island ,no escape. This is a fast paced thriller, a good police procedural and the two main characters were believable. Unfortunately David is so weak, he should be darker and more intense. This is only the first book and I can't to see how he develops.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the Arc in return for an honest review.
I read a pre-publication copy of this novel. I enjoyed this author's writing style. The action was fast paced and logically sequenced; the characters were fully developed; and the plot was sufficiently complex to keep the reader engaged. I liked that the romance part of the plot was simply suggested, not fully explored. I will look for more books by this writer.
Wow, this was a cracking read!!
Saskia Monet is used to working with the worst in society but her work at the prison has a certain rhythm to it, certain parameters. When she is asked to consult on a case of missing children, working closely with Winter Labey of the Jersey police, it is a whole other world.
Jersey is a small island and there are limited places where these children can be, nevertheless, it is a race against the clock to find them. The reasons they are taken is puzzling, and it takes Winter's team along with Saskia's profiling help, some time to put it all together.
As well as this sensitive and emotionally taxing case, Saskia also has to try and keep her brother, David, in check. David is a charming psychopath who creates havoc everywhere he goes.
Great start to a new series. Love the main characters and the story is very well written.
5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing.
I loved this one set on the isle of Jersey . It is a fast paced and engaging book with lots of twists and turns and Jersey is like a character itself .
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review the book
On the isle of Jersey, little girls are disappearing; in their wake are left wooden flutes, the signature of the mythological Pied Piper. Forensic psychologist, Saskia Monet is called in by DI Winter Labey to help provide insight into the perpetrator. But Saskia has another reason for being on Jersey, it’s her brother, David. On the surface, David appears to be a handsome, charming man, but Saskia knows he has a much darker nature underneath his every day persona. As time goes on, Saskia begins to wonder if her brother may know more about the disappearances than he lets on, more than she wants to admit. A unique plot and well drawn characters make this an exceptional mystery.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A great read, full of suspense till the very end. I', looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

The Stolen Ones is the first book in a new series called, "Saskia one". It's a very unique story that has complex characters filled with twists and turns that has a fantastic ending!
I'm anxiously awaiting for the next book in the series.
Synopsis:
Forensic psychologist Saskia Monet finds herself caught up in a chilling mystery when Detective Inspector Winter Labey of the Jersey police calls upon her expertise in a case that’s spiralling out of control. Three little girls have vanished without a trace, and each disappearance has been marked by a wooden flute left at the scene, a chilling signature of the kidnapper known as the Pied Piper.
Many thanks to #TheStolenOnes #NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this E-ARC.
Well written crime mystery book which has a good plot and interesting characters but I felt it lacked the suspense and twists that a psychological thriller usually has.
What a wonderful story! I’m a big fan of this author. I wasn’t as attached to the main character as I am to the Dr. Harrison Lane series, but it’s still very intriguing. I love reading about psychopaths and especially when there’s an effort made to understand how their mind works. I would have liked to see a little more involvement with Saskia in the case, but then again, this is the first book and the foundation was set for her work as well as her personal life. I’m interested to see how the next book will be structured, as there was a cliffhanger of sorts. It wasn’t the type that will make a reader throw their book against a wall, but there were a few small threads left untied that will lead into the next story.
Huge thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!

Can Saskia use her personal experience to help find them before another child is taken?
I loved this book so much I read it in one day. Brilliant plot and plenty of twists to keep you guessing. Can't wait to read more.
A great thriller that moved quickly as the police investigate the kidnapping of children. Gwyn Bennett scattered clues that kept me guessing and turning pages. The reveal was definitely not what I though it would be.
An excellent first book in a new series. This is one of the most unique books I've read in awhile. The characters are very complex. The case is full of twists. I was gripped from the beginning. I enjoyed the different view points of the three main characters. The ending was fantastic and has me anxious for more.
This is twisted tale of revenge and psychopathy on multiple levels. This is a crime thriller that will keep you guessing as to the perpetrator and the motives. I really liked Detective Labey and was torn by Saskia’s issues.
I look forward to further adventures featuring the two.
