I have just finished The Stolen Ones by Gwyn Bennett and can thoroughly recommend it. It's a great start to a new series. I have already become hooked on the Harrison Lane series and hope there will be more, but Saskia is a interesting new character and I look forward to seeing how she is developed in future books.
The suspense in the Stolen Ones is maintained throughout and I had to get to the end to find out whether the children survived or not. The backdrop of Jersey is lovely and its easy to picture the wonderful beaches and weather.

I cannot wait for the next book!

This was an intriguing thriller about linked cases of children being kidnapped. Set on the island of Jersey and primarily told from the viewpoint of psychologist Saskia who is brought in by the police to help identify the perpetrator. There was a fascinating twist in that Saskia’s brother is a psychopath, although this obviously isn’t a diagnosable condition Saskia clearly understands the traits and I think her brother will prove to be an interesting character as the series progresses but he felt a bit unnecessary in this first book. The case itself was horrific and the parents made for fascinating characters, I enjoyed the police procedural side of it and Saskia’s prison work was thought provoking. Overall this was a great crime and a good start to a fascinating new series.

A decently paced book with a few interesting central characters.
Saskia and Winter, will I hope, be a good partnership in any more books coming.
I enjoyed the whys of this book, but couldn't help but feel it fell a bit flat towards the end.
David is a puzzle currently, I can't help but feel he's more pantomime villain than an actual scary person currently.... however I'll happily read a few more books to be proven wrong.

Great choice of setting... small island, where the borders COULD be controlled... adds an extra element to the story.

Three months ago, a man hardens his heart and plots revenge as the mists swirl around the beautiful Channel Island of Jersey. In the present day, forensic psychologist Saskia Monet, recently relocated to Jersey from Kent, is working at Le Moye prison assisting with prisoner rehabilitation. However, DI Winter Labey asks for her help and input into the distressing case of several missing children from wealthy families, but who haven’t received a ransom demand. What’s the endgame? The perpetrator leaves a unique calling card earning them the soubriquet of the Pied Piper. What follows stretches the Jersey police and takes Saskia back into her uncomfortable past.

First of all, I chose to read this as a late dear friend of mine worked as a forensic psychologist at Le Moye prison and I’m delighted to say this book definitely didn’t disappoint. The Jersey setting pulls you in from the first page and is used most effectively in providing atmospheric shades of light and dark. I enjoy the facts about it too, some I know, some not!

This is a good intriguing mystery to get your teeth into and keeps my attention throughout. The plot is solid, the pace rises and falls, there is tension and some scenes are especially tense. There could maybe have been more fireworks in the conclusion but it does feel realistic, however, there is a tantalising and suspenseful cliffhanger of an ending.

The characterisation is excellent. Saskia is a very interesting, strong, thoughtful woman with a traumatic background which makes you admire her further. The storyline follows her brother David and let me tell you they could not be more different. He provides much chill whenever he’s on the pages and there’s definitely more to come here. As for Winter Labey, I really like him too . He’s a good person, determined, also thoughtful and open minded and a sharp contrast (sorry) to DCI Sharpe who is about as far from open minded as it’s possible to get. His provocation does help clarify Winter’s thinking which I’m sure isn’t Sharpe’s intention. I thoroughly enjoy the growing vibes between him and Saskia, so that should make the future interesting reading.

Overall, this is a good police procedural, and I especially like the forensics psychology angle courtesy of Saskia. It’s shaping up to be a promising series and I’m more than up for number two.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Storm Publishing for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

I’m a total fan of this author’s Dr Harrison Lane books, so was looking forward to reading this. I really wasn’t disappointed! This draws you in quickly and keeps its grip till the end. Loved the setting, loved the characters, loved the book.

It took me a little while to get into this book, but I'm glad I kept reading it. The plot started evolving and the characters began to take form. I really wouldn't want to get on David's bad side! Towards the end I even started to feel sorry for the pied piper and guessed the ending, but what came just before wasn't expected.

Saskia Monet is a professional psychologist. Recently moved to Jersey from the mainland, she is enjoying her new role working with the inmates of La Moye Prison.

Saskia’s profiling skills are called on to assist DI Winter Labey in the case of the kidnapped children and The Pied Piper, and together they make a formidable team.

The first in a new series this story got off to a flying start. With her troubled past and family secrets, Saskia has a lot of potential to be a complex and compelling character.

An interesting and entertaining plot, deep, and sometimes dark characters, this was a story of revenge and retribution.

A good read and I’m looking to the next offering from Jersey.

Thank you NetGalley and Storm.

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm for my approval to read and review this book.

This is the first in a new series - Saskia Monet Book 1. Forensic psychologist Saskia Monet is newly based on Jersey after spending years in Kent after graduating with her degree. Saskia works in the prison where she meets and reviews the prisoners that are being held within their walls and she helps to provide answers for their behaviour. This all changes when DI Winter Labey asks for her professional expertise with a missing children's case! Who, why, what, when, where, whom, how - are the questions she and Winter must ask themselves and the parents to discover the reasons behind the kidnappings. I loved how Saskia and Winter work well together in the hunt for the kidnapper!! The descriptions of Jersey came alive in my mind's eye as if I was there on the Island. It is an unputdownable book!! It is an emotional rollercoaster of a ride with a thrilling surprise ending that I didn't see coming. I will recommend this book and I really hope there is a book 2 to come.
