I loved how the romantic unravelling becomes empowerment itself because everything the heroine does is on her own terms!
In this story we have two characters who are not always the most easy to relate to, however the story itself is enjoyable.
This is your standard accidental pregnancy story for some readers that is enough, I did feel that some parts of the story were quite slow whereas others jumped. Overall though a good read
Almost perfect.
It has been a long time since I've been interested in reading a Mills & Boon book, but I can honestly say this was the best choice to get onto the proverbial saddle. Not unexpected from this author, Maya Blake.
Severino Valente, not a typical hero, scarred by his father and uncle's brutality. He knows what he wants and knows how to get it.
Eugenie Merchant, a unique heroine, computer genius, emotionally scarred by materialistic parents.
The chemistry, storyline, characters all clicked into place to make one hell of an enjoyable read. It does slow down but overall the story was unique with memorable characters.
Will they find their happily ever after and learn to let go of the past for a future together?
Read on to find out.
A deal, an accidental pregnancy and a marriage. Two fiery personalities who are both trying to keep the upper hand but the chemistry between them is far too hot to be denied. There was a lot of push and pull and thank goodness they got their HEA.
On paper I should have enjoyed reading this novel as I enjoy Maya Blake’s style of writing and so many of the storylines: pregnancy, intelligent heroine, alpha male and move to a beautiful island.
I found this book hard to get into and stay interested. I didn’t like either of the main characters, Genie morphed from tech wiz to wimp whilst Sev just seemed like a bully. Both characters had tough childhoods, Genie being used as a cash cow by her parents for example but even then I struggled to relate,
The characters seemed very two dimensional and unrealistic which is very strange for a Maya Blake novel as normally she really understands her characters.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Mills and Boon in exchange for an honest review.
I’m sorry but this left me cold on so many fronts, despite having a fairly interesting start. I really wonder what Mills and Boon are trying to do these days. I think attempts to be au courant have led them to forget the importance of developing the romance.
The story was bizarre and yet I could not find myself interested in the plot or the characters. There was a distinct lack of understandable emotion and human connection.
Genie, the heroine was clearly a young woman who had been brought up in the worst and strangest of circumstances and had been damaged by the abusive behaviour of her parents. I’m unsure that in real life,, she would have been able to move on from 15 years of no love, awful exploitation and negative attention.
in the middle of the story, four months pass by in a sentence. We’re supposed to believe that she has been able to resist the temptation to have sex with Sve for all that time. Isn’t the idea of these romances that the attraction is irresistible? No, I couldn’t buy the premise, or the execution. I was bored and I ended up skimming.

Its no secret that I love pregnancy trope! I know that’s not everyones cup of tea, but if its is then check this one out!
We follow tech genius, Genie and tycoon Severino after a night of spice which leads to a surprise baby! Seve is an all over alpha male and gets what he wants no matter the cost. Genie is an independent women and looking to move on with life after perfecting her algorithm and selling it off.
I really enjoyed that we got to see Seve and Genie’s relationship develop rather than skip ahead 9 months completely. This book is fast paced and insta love focusing on the main couple during pregnancy.
I rated this book 3.75 stars, its a really quick book which is easy to follow along.
Tropes:

This has all the ingredients of a Mills and Boon romance - read in one sitting and now looking forward to Maya Blake's next book.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me an early look at this book in exchange for an honest review.
It was hard to get into this book as neither lead character was appealing. The emotion didn’t seem there with Genie or Sève and even when their pasts were shared it didn’t speak to me, The business deal was calculated and the decision to sleep together seemed a bit concocted. It was all a bit mad complete with a far flung country and an evil uncle.
