No More Lies was such a great read it left me wanting more. Can't wait for the next book.
Synopsis:
Dani Mueller thought a trip to Washington, DC, with her husband, Jason Scarsdale, would be a last-ditch effort to mend their crumbling marriage. But when Jason vanishes after a job interview, Dani finds herself not just fighting for her marriage, but for her life. Accused of a murder she didn't commit, she becomes the prime suspect in a case that turns into Detective Floyd Hatchett's personal vendetta.
Out on bond and with the walls closing in, Dani has no choice but to flee across the Atlantic to London. There, she embarks on a relentless quest for the one person who can clear her name. Her investigation uncovers clues that lead her to a US Army base in Germany, but Detective Hatchett is hot on her heels, determined to bring her down.
I received an ARC through "NetGalley" and I am leaving an honest review.
This story begins with Jason telling Dani that he is going to D.C. for an interview. Dani says she is going with him. On Monday after they had arrived in D.C., Jason left in a taxi and that is the last time Dani saw Jason. With Jason not coming back to the hotel and not answering his phone, Dani contacted he police to report him missing. The next morning an individual had found a grave with a body and Detective Hackett went to the scene. There was no id with the body and when Hackett checked missing persons, he discovered Jason could be the person they found. Hackett after a short time was convinced that Dani was the killer and he did all that he could to see her go to jail. A warrant was issued for her arrest, and she was put into detention. At the bail hearing, Dani was able to post bail and be released. Dani returmed to Texas.
Her lawyer called her and told her that she was to be arraigned and taken into custody. At that time, she knew the only way that she could defend herself was to find Jason, so she flew to Europe.
Eventually law enforcement caught up with what Hackett had done and Hackett decided that he was going to find Dani and kill her. In addition, Dani's bondsman had sent someone to bring Dani back. Malley, the person sent by the bondsman, eventually found her and she told him that she was willing to go back once she found Jason, her husband. Soon Dani learned that all the charges against her had been dropped and there was no one chasing her. Shortly, Hackett had discovered where she was at and was deciding how to kill her. Dani and Malloy were still looking for Jason and eventually went to Germany.
To learn what happened to Hackett, whether Dani found Jason in addition to what danger she faced, then you need to read this book. You won't be disappointed.
Criminal lawyer Dani and her police husband travel to Washington for his job interview in an attempt to revive their failing marriage. Jason goes off to interview and never returns. However, when a body turns up, partially burned, matching the size of her husband, detective Floyd Hatchett sees an opportunity for revenge against Dani, who showed him up in court some while ago and starts fixing the evidence to prove her guilt.
The story then becomes rather implausible. Its exciting as you see Hatchett manufacture the case against Dani, but her actions are just beyond belief - travelling to England while under bond to appear in court to try to find her husband based on one person's sighting of a similar man and then linking up with her bail bondsman. It just was all too much for me.
I liked the premise, but found myself just not believing all that was happening and was frustrated with the odd choices Dani was making. And whoever advised the author on English idioms and accents is clearly out of touch. The idea of chasing around the country to various military bases to find an American teaching in one of them (as if we don't have our own experts) was just nonsensical.
So a fun read if you suspend reality for a while, but otherwise it didn't really work for me. Thank you to NetGalley and Books Go Social for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
When you go to the police for help and they accuse you of murder.....where do you go now? Dani Mueller's husband is missing so she must conduct her own investigation while dodging the police and the people who want him to stay missing. The story moves quickly and the investigation takes Dani to London. This is a good thriller that kept me guessing, checking back and forth looking for clues until the surprise reveal.
