I unfortunately found this book hard to get into as the story was just a bit too unbelievable for me - and im usually willing to suspend belief. The story felt very similar to "The couple next door" too which ruined it a little for me.
Thank you for giving me the chance to review this book.
Well, I will be completely honest. At first, I was disappointed because this book a copy of the tv series The couple next door. Which I didn't know and surprises me gratefully, is that this book was going to have a really good plot twist.
The characters are well driven and the only thing I missed is knowing more about Adam and his mother, as they are being forgotten in the last pages.
This one started off strong but just kept going down hill and by the end I had honestly lost all interest and didn't really care about what happened
Well I'm pretty disappointed. In the book and myself...the fact that I've sat on 56% read for over a month now is a pretty sure sign that I won't finish this one. Didn't like the characters and the plot just isn't holding my interest sadly. May try again in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley for a free electronic copy of this book. Whilst I enjoyed this book and found it intriguing I had to cast aside my raised eyebrows and disbelief that 2 women could switch partners, and more than once, without their other halves realising. I had to accept that artistic Licence ruled in this book. Sorry but it’s a crazy notion. Anyway, I did still like this easy read and finished it even though I guessed what the two ‘twists’ were. The main disappointment and frustration was the ending for me. I can’t really say more without adding a spoiler or three. If you want an easy read and don’t take the ideas explored too seriously then read this book.
Firstly thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!
I really enjoyed this thriller and it’s a twist on the usual type books in this genre.
The plot is set around two couples, who grow closer with an ever increasingly complex set of relationships.
The mystery and tension builds, and there were several plot threads which lead to unexpected events and revelations!
Would recommend
This is silly but a lot of fun. What goes on behind the curtains in Wimbledon houses. There's some very strange goings on in the novel and it reminded me of that couples drama on TV where Demelza from Poldark fame swapped partners with the neighbours. This book is like but even wilder and far fetched, But , a lot of fun along the way.
Well I really enjoyed this one, and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! This thriller had me on the edge of my seat until the very last word
I love the plot and I didn’t see the twist coming but, so much was predictable. I didn’t like any of the characters
Finn and Sophia really had me fooled, but Elena and Adam were just, dumb. So many parts where Elena kept reflecting on those nights got too repetitive. The end was great and at the same time weird 🤦🏻♀️
Another one of those wtf?? Books for me.
The premise starts ok and the author actually considers plot points to make it believable (I still think that no matter how similar your body types, voices, perfumes and jewellery, a person would know if they were having sex with someone other than their partner because like... moves, etc!! But I was prepared to suspend disbelief...)
What annoyed me is that both women are portrayed in ways that their "slightly" bizarre behaviour ultimately comes down to their obsession with one man. I find this rather reductive and the ending alludes to the women not being OK being on their own and somehow settling. As for the twist... ick.
I'm generally super generous and tolerant of off the wall plots but this one just failed to hit the spot for me. I'm pleased I didn't DNF though.
Started off really liking this book but suddenly it got all too silly for my liking. I did finish the book as hate to be defeated but had already figured out the ending. Shame really as it showed promise.
Many thanks to net galley for allowing me to read a copy in return for an honest review . All views are my own.
The premise of this book is so outlandish it's almost ridiculous. But if we can shelve that and just go along for the ride there are some elements to enjoy, the plotting of the two women is quite fun and how Elena falls for Finn feels quite authentic (after living with the rather sappy and selfish Adam).
However, the situation is so crazy and no one has a realistic response to anything it was hard not to keep frowning.
The back story of Finn and Sophia is totally bizarre, and I did get what the 'twist' was in their relationship quite early, so I was denied any kind of satisfying shock.
Plus, the ending was just off the charts crazy! But by then we were living in such an unbelievable land (quite quite far from the reality of London suburbs) that I just accepted it as part of the fantasy.
Honestly I expected Elena to wake up and realise it had all been a dream... which may have been a bit easier to accept.
Good story and enjoyable. The ending isn't the best in my opinion. Just a bit hard to believe.
Well worth reading though
I haven't read many books like this before but I thoroughly enjoyed this. The twist CAUGHT ME and I would definitely recommend.
Loved it, 5 stars, not expecting the twist.
Enjoyed characters, story, grabbed me and couldn’t put it down
I enjoyed the beginning of the book despite the fact the storyline was farfetched however I felt it dragged on too much unfortunately and was glad when I’d finished it. I did enjoy the style of writing changing from each character though.
Thank you to Netgalley and Random House UK/Cornerstone for the opportunity to read an advance copy in return for my honest review.
A strange but engaging story centred around a one night switch where Sophia and her friend Elena change places for one night without their husband’s knowledge. What could possibly go wrong? Tense, fast paced and creepy in places. A great read.
Enjoyed this read a lot. A great build up to the end and I just found the ending very quick and strange. Sophia is so clever to not know Finn has Elena in his other house - living another life every other week. Does Sophia never want to go back to that house.
I’ve not encountered a storyline like this one for a while. Previous one was a DNF for me but this book was written in a way that kept me wanting to read on!
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
Elena and her long term boyfriend, Adam, houses it for his aunt. Elena is freelance, and is working in a cafe, when she meets Sophia. Sophia is married to Finn and they’ve recently moved to London from Cornwall. Sophia and Elena become good friends, and then decided to switch partners for a night. Surely, that can only bring trouble.
This story started off really fast paced, but the plot was very far fetched. It’s completely full to the brim of lies and deception. There were some twists and turns, but some were predictable. The characters were well written, if not a bit strange. It was okay, but as I said, fairly far fetched in how far the story went. There was a plot hole, with Elena saying she couldn’t drive, to her getting a hire car and driving to Cornwall. Overall, it was an okay read.
