NetGalley and Montlake thanks for the early read of The Unquiet Bones. It was a good read. Slow at parts as those parts were used to describe the past but I just found it a bit repetitive but it was still good and a solid read.

A shocking discovery of human bones reopens an almost fifty-year-old cold case―and rips apart the lives of a group of friends―in a riveting novel by Loreth Anne White, the Amazon Charts and Washington Post bestselling author of The Maid’s Diary.

Really well-written, great plot twists, kept me on the edge of my seat.

Bones from 50 years ago were found under a church. This opens up old wounds and secrets from a tight knit group. While the story was good, I wish I had listened to the trigger warning at the beginning of the book. It definitely was very dark and not a usual book I enjoy.

Thank you so much to the author, NETGALLEY, and to the publisher for having this available to read so early! Loreth is a favorite author of mine and I preordered this a while back, and was so happy to read it early! The multiple POV was easy to follow and the characters were well developed. I always love a good cold case trope and this one hits that note while the reader is so very leery of every character throughout the story! I kept thinking I knew what would happen but this one is full of twisty twists! I really got a Harlen Coben vibe as it reminded me a bit of the group of friends in the series “SAFE”: as there were secrets from their past and no one really wanted them to come to light!

If you loved her book The Maids Diary: you’ve got to preorder this one! I still need to get back to work on reading her backlist! 📚

I enjoyed this story right from the start. A body is found buried beneath an old chapel while it is being prepared to move farther up a mountain. It’s up to Detective Jane Munro to determine how long the body has been there and if a crime has been committed. It was found beneath a chapel, after all. The story is told from several different points of view because six people have been waiting over forty years for their story to come out. The reader is introduced to these others before the detectives are, giving us a heads-up on who the body could be. While nothing is explicitly revealed, it’s clear that these six people are involved in some way and will do whatever it takes to keep their perfect lives in place.

One thing I found a bit strange is that the girl all six people reference in their backstories is not named for a while. I’m not sure why it was written that way, with even the girl’s sister not referring to her by name. It’s especially odd because her name is revealed in the blurb for the story, so we know it’s Annalise right from the get-go. But anyway, it’s slowly revealed how each of the friends last interacted with her and could have been responsible for her disappearance. The case is further complicated when another body is found, and Jane realizes it’s the boy everyone said Annalise ran off with or was kidnapped by. So there goes that theory. Now there are two bodies and Jane and her team are more suspicious than ever about these ‘friends’ of Annalise. She’s determined to get justice for both victims, but what will it take to get the truth? After so many years of lies, will anyone reveal the truth?

Be careful what you wish for, as I’m sure many readers will be shocked by the ending. I saw it coming through little bits of foreshadowing here and there, and by paying close attention to everyone involved. It was just so heartbreaking and clearly demonstrates how solving a mystery and bringing wrongdoers to justice doesn’t always feel like the victory that it is. But wow, the story is nothing short of incredible and one you should not miss.

I didn't walk but RAN to read The Unquiet Bones. Loreth Anne White is a go to, instant read for me and this new one cements her writing brilliance.

Bones found, 6 old friends, and a twisted tale of who knows what, whos telling what and who can you trust? Twisted and creepy in a way only White can do.
I loved it and read it in one sitting! Creeptastic!

I absolutely loved Loreth Anne White's latest novel, "The Unquiet Bones," a gripping and suspenseful tale that had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end! 😍 "The Unquiet Bones" has a unique and fascinating vibe that drew me in right away. The discovery of human bones beneath an old chapel in the woods, and the subsequent reopening of a cold case, sets the stage for a riveting mystery that had me guessing until the very last page.

The characters in this book are brilliantly crafted, each with their own secrets and complexities that add depth to the story. Homicide detective Jane Munro, who is not only pregnant but also profoundly attuned to the preciousness of life, made for a compelling and relatable protagonist. And the group of old friends, the Shoreview Six, who are now highly respected and affluent members of their communities, are brought to life in a way that had me questioning their motivations and loyalties.

What I truly appreciated about this novel is how it skillfully explores the consequences of secrets and the lengths people will go to protect their own truths. The unraveling of the group as they grapple with their past and the shocking discoveries they face is both heart-wrenching and thought-provoking.

Loreth Anne White has once again proven herself as a master of suspense and storytelling. I'm already eager to read more of her work in the future! 📚 If you enjoy mysteries that delve into the complexities of human nature, secrets, and the bonds of friendship, "The Unquiet Bones" is an absolute must-read. I wholeheartedly give it 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I really enjoyed this mystery. Human bones are unearthed and it reopens an almost fifty year old cold case. I liked the characters and especially Detective Jane. I certainly hope there will be a sequel to this book as there’s lots more I want to know about her. I’ve not read this author before but I will be looking for more of her books.

Loreth Anne White continues to be one of my favorite authors and The Unquiet Bones solidified that.

The Unquiet Bones follows Jane Munro who is investigating the discovery of Annalise Jansens bones, who went missing decades earlier.

The way Loreth weaves different points of view together is truly brilliant. She always makes her twists shocking; yet completely realistic which most authors can’t seem to do. Her character development is always done beautifully.

I truly can’t get enough of her books and I’m not sure how I’ll survive til the next one! 😂

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Unquiet Bones by Loreth Anne White
I’ve enjoyed a few other of this author’s books and this one does not disappoint either. She weaves an intricate story that you’re constantly trying to piece together.
47 years ago Annalise went missing. Coincidentally so did another teenager, a boy Annalise knew, Darryl. Is there a connection? Did they run off together? For 47 years no one knew or no one was saying. Until one day excavators find some bones under an old chapel. And those bones are ready to talk. Annalise’s group of old friends are not happy about this discovery and are all worried about what these bones will say. But they aren’t the only ones worried. A good read and you won’t see the ending coming.
I also really enjoyed Jane, the head investigator in this case. I feel we might be hearing more about her.

Thank you NetGalley and Montlake for the eARC.
What a great read, I absolutely loved it!
Homicide Detective Jane Monro has been relegated to the Cold Case Division, a team consisting of one - herself. Her nerves are shot; not only has her fiancee disappeared from a mountain trip, she's also three months pregnant.
Her boss felt she needed a break.
However, she catches the cold case of a murder committed in the 1970's, which turns into a real puzzler, focusing on a group of 6 friends who are now much older, but not much wiser. It's a riveting case with a great, unexpected ending which I recommend highly. It's a superb book!

The Unquiet Bones is a gripping and involving crime mystery by one of my favourite authors, Loreth Ann White.
The discovery of human bones under an isolated old chapel ,reputedly haunted by the ghost of a young girl, leads poliice to suspect that they're related to the cold case of a missing teenager, Annalise Jansen.

At the time of Annalise's disappearance question were asked about a group of her peers, labelled "the Shoreview Six" by the media. While these young people were less than convincing the most common view was that the young Ms Jansen had run away with an older male friend, when his remains turn up as well attention turns their way.

This is an excellent story, with Homicide Detective Jane Munro determines to discover Annalise's fate half a century on ,the Shoreview Six by now in their twilight years and having done well in life are forced to face up to events back then that they'd rather not resurface. There are twists and high drama ,typically of this author sensitive topics are addressed.
As always in a Loreth Ann White book the characterisation is excellent and this is superior crime fiction, I finished it hoping that this is the beginning of a new series.

This book was very well done and kept me interested throughout.

I liked the forensics aspect of the story line and thoroughly enjoyed the character development.

I definitely did not see the twist coming and was genuinely shocked.

This ARC from NetGalley was phenomenal! Great writing. The author clearly did her research into the subject matter/science. Very good domestic thriller.

Loreth Anne White is a phenomenal writer. Her books are always 5 star reads for me and The Unquiet Bones is no exception. I couldn't put this book down because I just had to know what happened to Annalise and Darryl. Told from multiple POVs this well-written story will keep you guessing all the way until the shocking end.

Jane was a great character. She has such an interesting backstory. I hope she is featured in more books, and we find out what happened to Matt. I also really liked Angela's character growth. She was pretty horrible at first, so it was nice to see her learn from her mistakes.

The Unquiet Bones is brilliant, disturbing and heart-breaking and I highly recommend it! Expected publication is 3/5/2024.

Thank you NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC!

Another superbly written thriller by White! This book was dark, twisty and filled with tons of questionable characters. Most of which have deeply buried secrets that could ruin their lives. Alternating between the POVs of these characters and detective Munro, the story unfolds into a disturbing retelling of the past that will blow your mind. I thought I had it figured out multiple times, but I was completely shocked by the ending. I'd love for White to make this into a series with Jane. I really enjoyed her character and would love to have more.

I highly recommend this book to all the thriller junkies looking for a dark, fast read. And if you haven't read any of White's books yet, read them now! You will not be disappointed.

Thank you to the author, Montlake, and NetGalley for granting me digital access in exchange for my honest review!

A grisly discovery under a chapel in the woods of human bones wearing platform shoes.
A cold case reopened of a missing teenage girl, can Detective Jane Munro solve this with the lies and cover up of the girls' friends?
Annalise was not the only teen that disappeared that night, a young teenage boy also vanished without a trace, were the cases connected? Darryl, the boy, was blamed for Annalise's disappearance. Will his grieving family get closure?

What a terrific read this has been! The suspense and mystery and great police investigative work has been a pleasure to read! Loreth Anne White writes a terrific story that is planned out and keeps the reader guessing and on the edge of their seat.
Fifty year old mysteries can still be solved with the tools of todays forensics.
However, I would never have guessed who killed Annalise - nor who made her pregnant.
Brilliant book, suspenseful and disturbing.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this brilliant book in exchange for an honest review.

The Unquiet Bones by L.A. White, published ny Montlake, is a gripping thriller that had me right from the start.
Jane Munro is an homicide investigator who suffers a personal loss herself. Her fiance just vanished on a hiking trip months ago. She wants to bury herself in the latest case when the remains of a young woman are found.
The story is set in BC Canada, has multiple povs, tells in graphic detail everylittlething.
The book is not for the faint of heart, deals with some sensitive subject, consider you warned.
All in all, a great read with some length in it, 4,5 stars.
