Zero Days Without Incident - the title was  the most memorable and exciting thing about this book.
I found the writing to be clunky and dated. The words didn't flow and each scene felt disjointed. However, the author did well to set the scene with the few words provided.
Each character was more unlikeable and unrealistic as the next. I felt as though I was reading the script to a low budget, self produced thriller with bad acting.
The twist wasn't a surprise to me, all the signs were obvious if you paid attention to them. Everything was drawn out except the actual reveal which was entirely anticlimactic. Somehow this was both a novel that skipped ahead too fast but was also painfully stunted and slow. This is marketed as a 'tense, psychological thriller' was misleading. It was only tense in how wooden the interactions were. Did I miss the part where this was a thriller? I did manage to finish this in a few hours so it's a quick read at least.
The premise was interesting but unfortunately this was not for me. I'm sure there are many people out there that would enjoy this. I do want to give this author another try as despite not being happy with this book, the ideas were definitely there.

Office politics are an almost unavoidable aspect of working life, but it is usually in corporate environments that things get most extreme in this regard. Competitiveness and backstabbing tend to go hand in hand as individuals seek to exploit any advantage in order to get a step up.

In a desperate attempt to put the "team" into "teamwork", Richard Thorncroft decides to send a group of his workers off for a teambuilding retreat. Unfortunately, circumstances lead to these mutually hostile colleagues ending up in a situation even more cut-throat than their existing office dynamics.

Stranded on an island after their plane crashes, the group members must learn to work together in order to survive.
Surely this will teach them the importance of working as a team.

Or will it? Because this is a bunch of people more prone to taking a Hunger Games approach to survival than one that prioritises cooperation!

This is an entertaining read, if not a particularly suspenseful one. There is a fair bit of humour, and a lot of action. Not mention - despite the far-fetched nature of the scenario - a lot of truth to the underlying dynamics portrayed here...

It gets 3.5 stars from me.

Described as “The Office” meets “Lord of the Flies”, Zero Days Since Last Incident brings a fast-paced survival thriller with a hilariously unique premise. As someone who has worked in the corporate world a lot; I found the office rivalry and grinding culture all too relatable and cringe-inducing. It takes the cut-throat, cliquey aspects of office culture and it’s unwritten social rules and throws them into an absurdly desperate situation to create a highly unusual story.

The storytelling is quick, quirky and casual — it jumps from an intense and suffocating work setting to a larger than life episode of Lost meets The Hunger Games in something spectacularly funny and thrilling. I didn’t find any mystery in the story, unfortunately I found the reveals to be a bit on-the-nose and obvious and found myself wanting just a little more resolution but I definitely still enjoyed the journey to the most hellish work retreat ever.

The premise of this book was really intriguing however the writing style and first few chapters left me both bored and disliking the main characters. Not personally my cup of tea.

What I though would be fun ended up being kind of fun ended up
being an brutally boring slog of a book. It could have been just a me thing but I found it to feel like other things I have read before and just felt like it took a little longer than it should have.

Thank you for letting me read this book. I really enjoyed it.

I found myself not wanting to put the book down so I could find out what happens. J.E. Rowney is a new author to me and I will definitely be looking at their other books.

Well here is something a bit different. A group of workers are sent to a team-building retreat which turns out to be not quite what they expected. Flew through this as i was desperate to find out what happened. I did guess what was going on and a little far fetched but overall an enjoyable read. A good psychological thriller. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
