Unfortunately this was a no for me. I did not connect to any of the characters and could not connect to the story. The idea was cute but it fell short

This was a quick, light read...a beach read...that capitalizes on the phrase, "the grass is always greener on the other side, but you still have to mow it." Neither Ginny nor Jackie is happy with their current working or living situations, and they both decide to sign up for a job swap. However, that seems to be where the similarities end. While Ginny takes on a new position (that she was kind of duped into) with a vigor and zeal, Jackie goes into a fantastic opportunity with an entitled attitude. I felt like the characters embodied their generational stereotypes (STEREOTYPE, y'all, don't come after me with hate!), showing how different attitudes really lead to different outcomes. I would have liked to see more character growth from Jackie over the course of the read.

I was excited when I read the plot of Just for the Summer. While I enjoyed Ginny and the side characters, I did not care for Jacqueline. It was a cute idea for a story but lacked depth. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.

The storyline caught my attention initially. The premise - people switching jobs, and locations, reminded me of the job - version of the movie The Holiday with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jude Law.
I love the idea of being able to switch jobs with someone else, try something new and know that I didnt have to give up anything. My job and life at home would be waiting for me if I wanted to go back. What is not to love about that idea? In this story by Melody Carlson, Ginny, who manages a high-end hotel in Seattle switches jobs with Jacqueline who is in the middle of Idaho managing her grandfather's fishing lodge. Both characters are likable and while the idea of the book was great. As you would guess the personalities of the guests in each establishment match their surroundings. That was fun, but I cant say that I ever felt connected to the story. I really wanted to, but it never happened. There was too much going on throughout the book and I found myself losing interest early on. It is too bad. I really wanted to like this story.

This was a cute light easy to read romance! It reminded me of the movie The Holiday where two people switch lives which is such a fantastic movie so I enjoyed this. I would have liked the plot to get moving a little sooner it felt a bit draggy in the beginning but once it got going I enjoyed! The main characters were relatable and I liked the romances! I would recommend to anyone looking for a fun easy read. Will be adding to our library - great for summer!

Cute premise. However, the pacing and general writing style wasn’t my favorite. It seemed to take forever to get to any notable plot line.
I wrote an honest review in exchange for this ARC.

Melody Carlson is another go-to, clean, romantic author that tugs at my "I love-love" heart. Great read for sure.

An excellent take on an age old trope- changing places! Well written storylines for each of the main characters make this another winner by Melody Carlson!

I liked the book. I won’t read it again though. At first it didn’t want to work on my kindle but i got it. But then it was messing up the chapters and it just ruined it for me. But i also didn’t like the the switching of characters wasn’t always noticeable.
I did like it he descriptions that was given. That it actually explains somethings about Salem, Portland, and Idaho and all the funnest of it there. Especially since i live in Eastern Oregon and Im right by where the book is based off. Makes me want to see if i can find a fishing lodge somewhere over there and live the story.

The premise of Just For The Summer was a lot of fun. The characters were well fleshed out and had a great arc. I wish the story was a little more dynamic.

Such a unique premise! I really loved seeing these two young women switch jobs and find themselves - and some romance. Lovely and well told story.

This book was very easy to get into, I enjoyed getting to know the characters and this added to the excitement and joy of reading this book.

I’m a big fan of Melody Carlson’s writing style. Just for the Summer is a fun and entertaining story that I thoroughly enjoyed. The concept of the main characters swapping jobs is what drew me in.
Ginny Masters is the manager of a boutique hotel in Seattle and does her job well. With a demanding boss in a fast paced environment it’s beginning to take a toll on her. Jacqueline Potter manages her grandfathers fishing lodge in Idaho but is longing for a more sophisticated and exciting environment. The women agree to switching jobs and it’s safe to say the grass is not always greener on the other side.
Just for the Summer is an entertaining clean read with a bit of inspiration. There is romance for both women and I enjoyed the variety of characters in the story. I loved how Ginny repurposed items in her decorating of the old fishing lodge. Each character had a purpose that added to the story.
I recommend Just for the Summer as a fun and entertaining read.
Thank you to Netgalley and Revell Publishing for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Ginny is a manager at a hotel, she works hard and she’s strict. She’s punctual and needs everything a certain way. Her boss is hard on her and blames her tor mistakes even if it wasn’t her fault.
Jackie is hard around the edges, cranky and doesn’t like much change. She manages her grandfathers fishing lodge.
But what happeneds when they job swap? Who fails and who succeeds? Who falls in love? And do they come back or stay?
I felt this book was okay I kept reading only because I wanted to find out what was going on. So it did pull me in I just wasn’t a fan of the writing.

this book gave me the feels. i was drawn by the title of the book and then i was sucked in completely. really liked this and want to find more of her books.

I really liked the JobSwap idea and enjoyed Ginny's character. The fishing resort was a lot of fun to read about and i liked all the side characters there. Yet, I really did not like Jackie's character, I know that is kind of the point in the beginning, but I didn't see any real character development from her. Working as. a maid for a week is not enough to convince me she is no longer a manipulative liar. Also, I strongly disliked how Ginny was always labelled as a workaholic, and encouraged to have fun and a man, as though her life is not complete without one. I wished we saw more of Ginny's sister and their relationship, and there was more build-up of the romantic relationships. Adrian and Jackie made no sense together, since she was manipulating him most of the book and was after him only for his money.

In true Melody Carlson style, Just for the Summer is a fun entertaining story I thoroughly enjoyed. 5 stars!
A new take on the old saying 'the grass is always greener on the other side" is in full play here. When Ginny Masters and Jacqueline Potter agree to a job swap, all manner of interesting situations occur. Both women are in desperate need of a change and convinced their new jobs will be just right. Ginny ends up at Fredrickson's Fishing Lodge in small town Idaho while Jacqueline lands at the sophisticated boutique Hotel Jackson Seattle.
While this story is full of humor and a lot of misunderstanding, it has a relatable theme of searching for a place to truly belong. I love how Carlson's love of decorating shines through in the fishing lodge setting and how Ginny brought the place back to life with old found things from the attic.
There are love interests for both women that brought another sweet element to the story. I enjoyed the variety of characters including Grandpa Jack, Margie, Ben, Alexi and Adrian. Even Diana has her place as the demanding, never satisfied hotel owner.
I recommend Just for the Summer as a lighthearted, perfectly delightful read. I appreciate Revell Publishing making a copy available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.

My eyes were already filled with the happy tears from the very first pages. The first few pages alone was all it took for me to fully connect, and I knew right from the start that this book was going to be special; and it very much was.

Melody Carlson books are always packed with fun themes and characters. Just for the Summer doesn't disappoint. While there were a few moments that were a bit fast, it is a fiction romance and that is to be expected. Thank you for the arc of this NetGalley and Revell!

The plot on this book is what drew me in, I love a good character swap! I also felt like the environments and details were really thought out and the characters each matched them very well!
With that, I did feel like there wasn’t a ton of depth to the characters, it sort of felt like some things were rushed to get to the next point. I found a connection with Ginny, but Jacqueline was definitely a brat (which I believe is how it is meant to be portrayed), but I wish there was more groveling for her.
I also really liked the MCs HEA together, but again I felt like the end was rushed into the last chapter. I wish there would’ve been an epilogue with more on their futures!
Overall, this was a cute book and I would probably recommend for someone who wanted a quick, light read!
