A nice easy slow paced read, reminded me a little of A man called Ove. My only quibble is there is no way a 6 year old could do a 5000 piece jigsaw in a couple of hours!

Well, this book completely captured both my heart and attention. I loved the combination of heartwarming scenes, friendship and of course the wonderful characters. This story seemed to burst to life from the pages it felt that real especially with the emotional moments. However please don’t worry because this book isn’t an outright sad story. It is a realistic look at life showing the heartbreaking moments but also the laugh out loud moments too.
The beginning of Frank and Red brought tears to my eyes but let’s just say I was hooked. Frank was such a character, I felt for him at times and then could have happily shaken him at other points. He’s sarcastic and at times downright rude but I understood him. Let’s just say I became very attached to his character. He definitely had his faults but it made him all the more real for them.
Then we have Red, who was a joy to get to know. He reminded me of my son in some ways especially when he was younger. There is a lovely curious nature to his personality and it’s safe to say there are lots of questions from him. There is an innocent friendliness to him that really shone through too. Seeing Red in the playground, trying to navigate a new school and make new friends was heartwarming and nerve wracking for me. I was rooting for him all the way through.
All that’s left to say is that I loved all of the interactions between the characters. There is hope, love and friendships within this story. Frank and Red is a wonderful, beautiful book with an unlikely friendship that grabs hold and pulls you right in. It will be rightfully included in my top book picks for 2024. I loved it!

Sadly ,I had to dnf, I couldn't really get into this one as much as I thought I would but I think the writing was very good. I would still recommend this to people I know would love this type of story.

what a heart wrenching, beautiful book about grumpy Frank and his blossoming unlikely friendship with young schoolboy Red. who lives next door. Both of them have challenges that they are having to deal with and Red's enthusiastic nature, from jumping on his trampoline in the garden, causes their worlds to collide. Such a heart warming read that really gets you, with Coyne's bespoke humour thrown in. A truly wonderful read.

A truly beautiful story that leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling. The story sees the unlikely friendship of Frank and Red blossom and is told in an authentic way that really brings the characters to life.

What a brilliant book.
Great characters, realistic events and unlikely friendships… a real gem. Will stay with me for a long time. 5 fabulous stars 🌟

I couldn't read this as an ebook for some reason so will get it when it comes out! Sorry! (Leaving a 4 star review to be fair.)

Frank and Red is exactly what I thought it would be, and it’s a joyous, gentle read that didn’t disappoint.
Grumpy Frank has become set in his ways since his wife died; he’s fallen out with his son and he’s reluctant to leave the house. But he’s happy by himself, right? He doesn’t need anybody else but himself and the ghost of his late-wife. But when six-year-old Red moves in next door, an unlikely friendship might just change Frank’s life.
Coyne has crafted a funny and touching novel about how debilitating grief can be and how joy can be found in really unexpected places. He’s written a cast of very likeable characters that keep the plot moving along effortlessly, but the real gems in the novel are his main protagonists, Frank and Red. Despite being a crank, Frank is lovable, funny, and actually relatable on many levels. Red is adorable, brave, and a complete tonic, and together they’re an unstoppable and endearing force.
The relationship between Frank and Red is just beautiful. Is it predictable? Absolutely, but there’s so much charm in this novel that you want that warmth that the predictability brings; it gives the readers exactly what they need.
A really heart-warming novel that celebrates love and real human emotions.

What a wonderfully wholesome story! I loved the friendship between the two main characters, and definitely shed a tear near the end!
Thank you Netgalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NETGALLEY and WILDFIRE for letting me read this title ahead of its release next month. I loved this book. It’s very sweet, funny, emotional and it pulled me in so much that I read it within a few days. Frank is so intriguing, and I wanted to find out more and more about him and Marcie’s life together, so I enjoyed the flashback chapters. Having a son myself, Red pulled at my heart strings. I really enjoyed the difference in voice with each chapter as it meant the reader really feels they got to know each character, which for me strengthened my love of this book! This title is out next month, go and get yourself a copy.

I wouldn't normally have selected this book. But I had everything from comedy to emotions. I was a great read, it kept me wanting more and had many a 1am bedtime trying to read it couldn't put it down.

Fabulous story which was well written, amusing and witty. Great characters and great one liners!! Would definitely read this author again

The book is so beautifully written, heart warming. I couldn't believe it was written by man. The author is very good psychologist, understanding human nature and problems that have different age people. Serious human problems in every chapter harmoniously intertwine
with good humourous philosophical presentation.

Oh my heart!
I absolutely love books where a beautiful friendship blossoms between people belonging to entirely different generations. It gave off "A Man Called Ove" vibes. This book explores the relationship between Frank, who is an old cranky man, and Red, a 6 year old boy who has moved next door. Red is dealing with his own problems at home and at school. Read more to find out how their friendship means everything to each other.
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Frank and Red has featured on lots of recommended reading lists, and I can see why.
Red and his mum move across London to live next door to Frank. Red finds the change of circumstances very tough, in particular changing schools and missing his best friend. Despite Frank’s best efforts, a cross generational friendship develops between them and they both benefit in ways they couldn’t have predicted. Recommended.

Frank & Red is a book that’ll have you feeling all the emotions, from laughter, sadness to joy and hope.
There’s a brilliant set of characters in the book, and the people around our two main unlikely friends Frank (an elderly man who’ll not go further than his gate and wants to he alone) and Red (a six year old boy full of questions and intrigue).

This book will gladden your heart. It is a brilliant concept of young boy befriending a lonely widower, Once he has established that he is not a "beddifile"
This is in parts amusing and in others very moving.
It is beautifully written with 3D characters who are all loveable.
I really loved it and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good story.

Frank and Red by Matt Coyne and narrated by James Killeen was a heart-warming and funny story of an unlikely friendship. It was written well and had you gripped from the beginning till the end.
The narrator James Killeen did a perfect job. An absorbing audiobook. I loved it.

What a joy this book is.
If you love books about people and their relationships like me, this is for you.
The development of the friendship between two unlikely characters is lovely.

I enjoyed this book so much, it was beautifully written and just an amazing read. I highly recommend it.
