A murder story on a cruise ship. Moira and Claire meet on the ship after a body is discovered. Pronounced a suicide Claire is not so sure. So with Moira’s help she decides to do her own investigation. An entertaining story with a wee twist at the end.
Death on the Water is a murder mystery in an unusual setting of a Caribbean cruise ship. The story features investigative journalist, Claire Mills who is forced to take a vacation by her agent and publisher, for health reasons. However, a body is discovered by the cleaning staff in the cabin adjacent to Claire’s on day one of the cruise. Officials immediately rule it a suicide, but Claire doesn’t believe them. Claire wrangles assistant cruise director, Moira, into her investigation. The subsequent story reveals motives and methods for a total of three murders tied to this overall case.
The high seas drama felt realistic. Throw in the outer bands of a hurricane when the drama reached the boiling point and that added to the overall effect of the story. This was purely a murder mystery with very limited romance between Claire and Moira until close to the end. 4 stars
