It intermingles light hearted slice of life with recipes. The recipes themselves are not original or complex. It was really cute to keep reading of the bond between the two adults.
I would get it more if you like the worlds story versus a cookbook.
This was such a cute manga! I already read Witch Hat Atelier so I was familiar with the characters and the story. However, I will say that this doesn't impact the current story going on in the manga. I loved all of the cute stories revolving around food in this collection and I really liked that they included the recipes for each item that they made in the story.
5 out of 5 stars
I am so happy that I got a chance to read part of one of my favorite series early and this was such a cute side story bind-up. I am usually not someone who really enjoys side stories and such but this was just adorable. I love how this was still story-based but also a cookbook, it just had all the good found family vibes. If you don't know the story at all this would be a bit odd to read mainly because of the previous world-building but those who like even just the first volume of the main series would enjoy this one as well. This is a series I never see myself putting down and this was a nice break from the painful events of the last few volumes. The art is still a 10/10 as well so that's great.
Disclaimer: I received an arc copy of this volume from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Just my cup of tea!
A wondrous book/manga filled with notions as to how one can turn darkness into a brilliant endeavor of cute cooking and recipes to fill the audiences to the brim,
Love it!
This book is nice to look at, but the level of detail is far less than the main series. As for the plot... what plot? This is a series of vignettes, where characters make food using magic. And at the and of each such chapter there is a recipe. There are some mild jokes and nice character moments, but they are not on the level, which will qualify this book as a must buy.
Only for those who are into cooking.
This does exactly what I hoped it would, with gorgeous art and even some minor storytelling in the midst of the cute cooking/recipes.
I can see this be very popular with teens. There is a huge fan base that would love this book at my library.
First, I want to say thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with a digital ARC of this book.
This book is entertaining! Short stories about cooking with various magical ingredients make me curious and want to try a bite, beautiful illustrations, and heartwarming stories too. I will surely read the next book!
It is a pure delight to rediscover Shirahama's extraordinary illustrations in this book that combines recipes and short stories within the narrative framework of volume 1 of this series. A glossary at the end provides guidance on how to prepare these recipes without the help of magical ingredients ^^. Some recipes may still seem a bit complicated, but they all make the mouth water! A culinary gem!
This was such a cute read! I really hope Witch Hat gets an anime adaptation (heard one has been in the works for years) and that these recipes get animated. They would serve as amazing filler episodes! Thanks Kodansha and Net Galley for the ARC!
This is the first cookbook I’ve heard that’s immersed in the story’s world, which made it less of a cookbook and more of me just reading about characters I like cooking and eating. It was a really heart warming read and now I need to run and finish the rest of the volumes of Witch Hat on my bookshelf.
An amazing spin-off from the Witch Hat Atelier universe with even more stunnning art by Shirahama. The recipes were so inventive and the ingredient names are so whimsical which only enriched the world building of the series. I loved seeing the main characters in a cosy slice of life setting. I'm excited for the release of further volumes and to try out all these new recipes!
I loved the original Witch Hat Atelier volumes and this captured the same magic & whimsy! This manga combined 2 of my favourite things, magic and food. Anytime I read a foodie manga it never fails to become a fun comfort read… and these recipes made me very hungry. Not only does everything look delicious, the back of the book gives you ingredient substitutes (from the real world) so you can make these dishes too! With the same great characters and beautiful artwork combination as the original series this new manga set in the same world doesn’t fail to deliver! Next volume please!
It's been ages since I last read the original Witch Hat Atelier but that was not an issue. WHA Kitchen is basically: these people capable of magic live together and cook using magical fantasy ingredients (with real world equivalents as listed in the back of the book). It's cute, it's simple, and it made me hungry.
A pretty fun manga with cool recipes to try out at home! I'm not really a huge fan of cooking media but this and Campfire cooking were fun reads and it gives me the vibe that I've been missing out!
A cozy spin-off like this is what every manga series needs. Who doesn't want to see their favorite characters cooking together? This completely holds up to the magic and beauty of the main series, and if you're a fan, you'll need to check this out.
When the girls are in bed after a long day of training, the teachers are relieved of their duties and can hit the kitchen! Following mostly Qifrey and Olly, we get a glimpse into what happens when nighttime hits the atelier.
While this is a more cozy side story, it still provides great character interactions. It mixes well the elements of what you want from cooking spin-off while incorporating the unique magic and worldbuilding of this story. At each chapter's end, it provides the "recipe" for what was cooked while noting what could be substituted for us non-witches to make in our world at the back of the volume.
I was hoping this would be officially translated to English for years, and I'm so excited to see it finally be released. I will be purchasing a physical copy immediately and waiting patiently for the next volumes.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy.
The typical sweetness and fun you expect from Witch Hat Atelier! The art is gorgeous and I am so hungry after finishing this book. Also Olly and Qifrey love the girls so much, I love their relationships!!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
This was a very cute offshoot from the main series. It's basically a series of vignettes with the primary focus being on cooking food. The recipes included are a little bit basic but made to seem more "magical" because they changed the names of common ingredients to magical sound ones. It's cute though, it adds some whimsy. It is cute that reading the chapters is basically like reading a cooking tutorial video. It's done in a very fun way. I do like that the "story" of each chapter has a bit more focus on the adults The main series focuses on Coco and the other girls, so it was nice to see more about Quifrey and Olruggio. The art, as always, is gorgeous. It is a little more sketchy than the main series, but that's fine.
I’ve never read a cookbook in a manga form before, but it worked nicely. All recipes were fairly simple and every step was illustrated. Everything looked yummy, and all the recipes are included. As a bonus were the cute stories.
This is a manga story where the two protagonists create sizzling magic in the kitchen. Most of the story and descriptions revolve around creating food, detailed recipes and catching the essence of enjoying wholesome food.
The most loveable part for me was not the story or the character, but the graphics. They were wonderful and after a bit of reading, I got to know that the artist is none other than @mome_kamo who is also famous for her Marvel Comic covers. The book is fairly short and can be easily read in a single sitting.
