This book sits between memoir and an almost novel-like dissection of inner worlds. Although the book did become slightly more repetitive as it went on, I found it an interesting follow-up to his previous book, Fever, where the inner panic of shame and guilt can shine through.
We follow his difficulties within relationships, and I found it engaging how he thinks about his life without pity, but with a real desire to understand.
Forgot to leave this review back in Feb.
This novel is an autobiography that starts off promising, but is overall lacklustre and the writing style is just not worth the reading time unfortunately.
Minor Bodies by Jonathan Bazzi is doing the milanese no favours. there is something grating and not particularly compelling in the narration.
This novel is an autobiography and quite intense. It starts off promising, unfolding a beautiful story, but as it progresses, things take a turn. Opinions about the writing style vary, with some parts being hard to connect with, while others are truly electrifying.
Jonathan Bazzi's novel is a sexy, emotional and romantic look at a gay man looking for love and connections in Italy. Bazzi's lush and crystalline prose creates an engrossing and shocking read about how the narrator (fictional stand in for Jonathan Bazzi?) yearns for love, but doesn't always know what to do with it. His behavior can be maddening and abrupt, but who can be mad at someone who finds love and desire at a Miley Cyrus concert? The ending is sensual and romantic, and one of my favorite endings to a book. This would be a wonderful companion piece to Justin Torres's Blackouts.
Unfortunately this book was not for me. I really wanted to like this book, but I couldn't get past the first two pages before giving up. This was a difficult read for me since it was not properly structured in epub format, and sentences broke off into other paragraphs, and there were no quote marks to identify whether a character was talking or not.
I really wanted to love this book but I struggled to get through 2 chapters before calling it a day. I found this a hard read as it had not formatted correctly in epub format and sentences broke off into new paragraphs, there were no quotation marks distinguishing if a character was talking or not.
