Secrets Of Starshine Cove is actually book number two from the ‘Starshine Cove’ series of books but can also very easily be read as a stand alone with no problems at all.
I absolutely loved returning to Starshine Cove, it is such a gorgeous series and i really enjoyed being immersed in all of the festive goodness.
The characters were all wonderful and it was great to catch up with some familiar faces from the first book too.
The authors style of writing, as always, is beautiful and descriptive and i very easily felt as though i was actually there in Starshine Cove.
This was a gorgeous, heartwarming, Christmassy book and i thoroughly enjoyed everything about it…….
A woman takes her teenage son on a drive out to a place that she remembers that her father took her to, and where she has fond memories. The people that she meets are all friendly and caring and take them in.
I loved this book so much! I read it in one sitting. I will be looking for more titles by this author! I would definitely recommend this book! The MC traveled with her son to a place where she remembered as a child, that is something I would want to do!
Cally has had to care for her mother and her son for many years. Now her mother has bounced back and moved on. Cally takes her 18 year old son on a trip to a place she vaguely remembers from childhood. Once they arrive the community takes them under their collective wings.
There are some memories that are false and some that do live up to her expectations.
I love the relationship Cally has with her son, Sam. I also like all the relationships she develops with the people of Starshine Cove. The author made the town and community come alive. It seems like a nice place to live.
Thanks to netgalley and Storm Publishing for the arc.
A very enjoyable return to Starshine Cove!
Cally has been looking after her mother since she was young, after her father died. Her mother couldn't cope with life in general after that so Cally took over and has been looking after her ever since, along with her son Sam, who is now 18. But now all of a sudden, after persuading her mother to join a silver surfers group to help older people with the internet, she's signed onto a dating site and has found new life and a new partner, who lives in Scotland, and she's moving there to be with him!
This leaves Cally feeling a bit adrift in life, her mother has a new partner, her son is 18 and doing his own thing now, so she feels she's not really needed much anymore, but what can she do with her life now? Then there's a flooding at the hair salon she works at, and the salon is shut until the new year too. So she decides to take a road trip with Sam to find a place she vaguely remembers from her childhood as being the last really happy time she spent with both parents, just before her father died.
Eventually she finds Starshine Cove and both her and Sam start to settle in for a while, meeting the residents and finding their own space in the village and helping out with various events. While there she meets Archie, and his really cute young daughters, and they slowly get closer, and she learns the very sad story behind their lives.
This story started off as quite lighthearted, but has a lot more going on as you get into the lives of the residents, especially with Archie and his family, but also Cally's mother, who avoids talking/texting her daughter for quite a while and there are secrets to eventually reveal there. I did find Cally's mother a bit annoying ghosting her only daughter who'd looked after her for all those years, but I suppose she felt she had her reasons and it was resolved eventually.
Starshine Cove is definitely a little hidden pocket of magic, a little village that helps those who need it most, even if they don't realise it. A really lovely series.
Secrets of Sunshine Cove is a cute festive novel by Debbie Johnson.
I really enjoyed this festive novel. It had everything that I could want in a festive romance novel and more. The story was easy to follow with a great cast of characters. I highly recommend it.
❤️ Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and author for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book in the Starshine Cove series, but it can easily be read as a standalone book. It was lovely to return to Starshine Cove and when I was back there I remembered how lovely the characters all were! In this book we meet Cally, a single mum to 18 year old, Sam. She's not having a good time at home in Liverpool, so with Christmas on it's way, she decides to spend it in a place which holds happy childhood memories for her. Of course, if you remember from book one, Starshine Cove doesn't appear to be on any maps and the road to it seems to appear to you when you need it most!
It was such a delight to return and at Christmas time as well. All of the characters from the previous book are there, and we also get to meet some new ones. I really like Cally's character and whilst her son, Sam is a little moody at times, I love how they both grow and blossom as the book moves on! I also really like Archie's character and whilst he has a really sad backstory (just as some of the other characters do), he fits in so well to the storyline. Starshine Cove is a truly magical place and I loved the images that the author gives us as to what it is like, especially at Christmas. It is filled with lots of fun and laughter, and I'd love to go to some of the parties they hold as they sound just brilliant!!
Whilst it is a fun and festive read, there are some more serious parts to the story and the author takes us on a rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish! It's absolutely perfect for a Christmas read and if I could just find Starshine Cove on the map I'd be going there myself!! Yet again, another wonderful read by this author! Would recommend!
Secrets of Starshine Cove was a book that will be with me for a long time. This is the second book in Starshine Cove. I have not read the first but after reading this book I am going to read the first.
The characters in the story are just what everyone needs in their lives. Cally is a person many would like as a friend in their life. I adore the bond between Cally and her son Sam. It warmed my heart to see this in a story.
There is so much put into this story that everyone will love it.
Thank you NetGalley, Debbie Johnson and Storm Publishing for the copy of Secrets of Starshine Cove.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a review.
This is the second book set in Starshine Cove but could easily be read as a standalone (although I did the first one immediately before starting this one!) A lovely story of Cally and her teenage son Sam who find themselves in Starshine Cove for Christmas.
Look forward to more about this lovely place.
I thought this was fabulous. Cally and her son were instantly really likeable, I have a young son and I’d be over the moon if he turned out like Sam and I hope for the relationship they had together. All the characters in the book felt so warm and starshine cove as a concept with their community mindedness was just so lovely to read about. Imagine if people really did look after each other so well!
There are sections of huge sadness but also a hefty dose of joy, it was such a feel good book and I absolutely devoured it. I’ll be looking out for more Debbie Johnson books
Absolutely fabulous, I couldn’t put it down. Humour, sadness, family, romance and Christmas what’s not to love. The main character Cally was relatable and felt like she could be a friend, I could picture Archie and his girls and I now want to visit Starshine Cove. This is the 1st Starshine Cove book that I’ve read and I will definitely read more as I want to know more about the characters in previous books and understand the relationships between them, A good book like this wants to pull you in and leave you wanting more and i definitely want more of this lighthearted romantic group of people. I would recommend this book to readers who like this genre.
Debbie Johnson's Secrets of Starshine Cove is a delightful and heartwarming Christmas story that focuses on the journey of Cally, a single mother and hairdresser, as she navigates life's unexpected twists. Cally, who has spent years caring for her elderly mother, finds herself adrift when her mother embarks on a whirlwind romance and moves away. Seeking solace and a change of scenery, Cally and her son, Sam, stumble upon Starshine Cove, a charming seaside village. Here, amidst the warm and slightly eccentric locals, Cally embarks on a journey of self-discovery, forming new friendships and finding solace in unexpected places. The novel beautifully captures the essence of community life, the power of truth, and the importance of second chances. With evocative descriptions, a memorable cast of characters, and a storyline that evokes a wide range of emotions, this book is a heartwarming and thoughtful read.
What a beautiful story. I absolutely love Starshine Cove.
Cally and Archie are great. As well as Sam, Lillie and Meg and of course everyone else from Starshine cove!
You will fall in love with this story! Cally down on her luck with her mum leaving, Sam being old enough he doesn’t need her, and a roof collapsing, Cally and Sam set out to Starshine Cove where Cally has a fond memory from when she was younger.
Everyone is Starshine Cove welcomes them and makes them do some soul searching about what is left back home for them.
Debbie does a wonderful job of writing this story. You will enjoy this sweet romance!
Wonderful. Debbie Johnson writes in a way that is magical that you can touch and feel the stars in the cave with the words she writes, bliss. I thoroughly enjoyed this visit to Starshine Cove, I hadn't read the first book, but this did not spoil the read, as it is a stand alone story, it just sometimes dips back into the first book so you learn about some of the characters back stories. (I will be reading it next).
Cally goes on a road trip with her teenage son, to find the place she felt happy in when she was a child, she ends up in Starshine Cove, and it starts to weave its magic into her life.
A perfect Winter/ Christmas read. It has humour, a good strong storyline, that wants you to read it in one go.
I was so excited to be allowed an advanced copy of this book as I absolutely loved Debbie Johnsons previous Starshine Cove book, so thank you netgalley. So although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone but I heartily recommend reading the other if you haven't already. The Cove is a hidden gem, literally. It's a magical, special place full of lovable, loving and warm and characters. Wonderfully written , unputdownable book. A must read.
What a beautiful story! It can fit under the headings romance, beach read, Christmas read….this book checks off all the boxes! Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to preview Secrets of Sunshine Cove by Debbie Johnson. You will fall in love with Cally and her son Sam and all the people of Sunshine Cove, especially Archie, a single dad of two little girls. This is book two of a series and it isn’t necessary to read book one to understand book two, but I will now after loving book two so much. I highly recommend this author and book.
Sometimes you want to sink into a warm, sweet story filled with images of a close knit village of your imagination. That's Starshine Cove for me. On the recommendation of a friend I read Debbie Johnson's first book in this series Escape to Starshine Cove and enjoyed it so much then was thrilled to read this book. Secrets of Starshine Cove is like a warm hug and I am already looking forward to what’s next.
A delightful return to Starshine cove. Wonderful characters set in an amazing community. This book can't fail to make you feel warm and cosy.
I loved this!
When her mum announces she's found love and is moving to Scotland and then ceiling falls in at the hair salon where she works, Cally's life is upended. Her son doesn't need her, her mum doesn't need her and she has no work to do. After drinking too much Bailey's she remembers a Christmas holiday in a magical place, where her dad was alive and she was happy. So she set off to find Starshine Cove.
Set about 3 months after the first book, you meet all the same characters in Starshine but this time focusing on Cally and Archie.
Will they be friends, is it a holiday romance, is it a life changing holiday for both of them?
I can't wait to read book 3 and see who ends up in Starshine next.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
