I loved this book so much I got the audio version too. The author writes really well and it definitely kept me engaged! Brilliant
Wow. I could not, would not put this book down … There are so many twists and turns to this story… A must-read for those who love thrillers with so many turns, you have no idea where you are.
Wow! What more can I say????
This one comes out today! Be sure to get your hands on a copy!
The Lodge by Sue Watson.
Talk about dysfunctional family interactions? Well, here they ALL are….wrapped up in a big, bright bow!
Angela, the family matriarch, has invited everyone to ‘The Lodge’ for her 75th birthday celebration. It is a beautiful, picturesque place that lives on the edge of a cliff!
Breath taking!!
And Angela also might have mentioned that this will probably be the last time that they get together for her birthday… so there’s that!
Her two daughter-in-laws are invited, as well as her grandchildren. Plus, she has a chef coming!
Perfect weekend getaway! Right!! ???
Oh…and did I mention that the two daughter-in-laws are/were married to the same guy?? Angela’s son…
Just one. He is currently married to one, and the other is the ex!
Wait! What??
So as they all start to arrive for the weekend, the Police pull up.
Why are they here? Oh…there was an accident.
Did anyone see anything on the way in??
They’re interviewed… No-one is arrested.
But don’t go far. Oh, but they can’t.
There a major snowstorm arriving!
There’s actually snow everywhere. You can’t even see!
So as the chips start to fall into place, another piece of the puzzle starts to fall out of place!
And I mean….THE. TWISTS. KEEP. COMING!!!!
Never saw 90% of them! Never expected any of them!
My mouth was literally HANGING OPEN by the time it ended!!
And the moral of the story? PRICELESS!!!! 😮😮😮
Thanks to #NetGalley and #BookoutureAudio for an ARC of this incredible book…which releases today! 10.24.23.

When Angela, Fiona's former Mother-in-Law, invites her to a weekend away for what she claims could be her last birthday Fiona knows she can't say no. Three days with her ex-husband, his new wife and their baby won't be a fun time. but she'll have her kids there, too, and she's always loved Angela. Determined to make the best of it, Fiona sets out.... but she soon learns that during this snow-bound weekend, her issues with her ex will be the least of her problem.
My favorite thing about this book was that all the characters were easy to distinguish right from the start. I love a locked-room mystery, but I hate when it takes forever to sort the characters. I also loved that the story jumped right in and felt very plausible and the whole thing kept you guessing until the very end. The only thing I struggled with was that this one took a long time to get where it was going. The middle dragged quite a bit for me, but the end was well worth it.
Overall, just another really solid one from Sue Watson! Highly recommended for those who love Frieda McFadden because you'll love the big twists!
Such a great listen! Just when I thought I had it figured out, I found I was wrong! The narrator does a great job on this story.
There is nothing like a snowy trapped in mystery thriller! I absolutely love them. The Lodge completely fit the bill and did not disappoint! I found it to be chilling, atmospheric, dramatic, gripping, shocking and hard to put down! I loved that I had both the kindle and audiobook version which made for a completely enjoyable reading experience! The narrators of the audiobook were fantastic and did a brilliant job telling the story and doing the voices.
Angela has called her family together to celebrate her 75th birthday! She has chosen a luxury cabin for the venue and has invited not only her son, Scott and his new wife, Danni, and their baby, but his ex-wife, Fiona and their two children. Talk about uncomfortable! Scot cheated on Fiona with Danni and now they are all under one roof! YIKES!
The snow is falling, emotions are flying, the police have arrived, a body has been found and the police have come calling.
I was fully invested in this book from the very first page! I loved the drama, the mystery, the POV's of Fiona, Scott, and Danni, and the snowy environment. The cabin surrounded by snowfall was atmospheric and chilling. I found this book to be gripping, shocking, addictive and so much fun! Sue Watson knows how to pile on the drama and excels at writing dysfunctional families. As the book progressed and I learned more about the characters, I had fun shaking my head at them, their decisions, and actions. Plus, the tension! You could cut the tension in this book with a knife. As I love tension and not knowing who to trust in a book, I was completely blown away by this book. There were also a nice amount of twists and turns along the way with a jaw dropping reveal!
Well written, tense, chilling, atmospheric and addictive!
When 75-year-old Angela invites her family on a trip for her birthday celebration at a beach resort in Cornwall, suggesting it might be her last, how can they say no? There for the party are Angela's son Scott with his new wife and baby, Scott's ex-wife, their two teenagers, and a private chef Angela hired for the event.
The premise of the book is intriguing, and I enjoyed the writing style. A snowstorm leads to the family being trapped at the lodge, and at some point they receive some disturbing news from the police: someone has been killed nearby. It's unclear at first as to who it could have been, but things start to unravel soon. Someone else ends up dead, and it only gets crazier from there.
At first it seems a bit of a slow burn, but the story is so filled with drama and tension, that I was hooked the whole time. There's also the jealousy between the wives perfectly told through their own POVs, that at times I didn't know which one to believe or to root for.
There are many twists and turns, some predictable, some truly surprised me. Overall a pleasure to listen to.
Firstly I want to note I loved the narration of this story, this was really well done and hope these narrators do more books in the future! This was also my first Sue Watson book and glad I have discovered this author. The author definitely kept me guessing but I did find the middle a bit slow but then towards the end it will blow you away! I would definitely recommend this to all thriller lovers!
Thanks to Netgalley & Bookouture for sending me this arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is the first book I’ve read / listened to from Sue Watson and I can see now why she’s so popular.
This was a propulsive engaging read. A proper page turner with just the right amount of characters to keep my guessing. Snowed in , a family reunion takes a dark turn. While the plot and setting might not be the most original, the author elevates this one with twist after twist after twist.
I thought the ending let the book down a smidgen, it was probably my least favourite part. The reveal, the book went out on a whimper rather than with the bang it deserved.
A well written engaging thriller , would recommend.
The audio was excellent.
3.5 🌟🌟🌟✨
⚠️ Caution ⚠️ Storm Coming! -Risk to Life- Only travel if necessary.
Twisty and twisted!
Angela, the matriarch of the family, is getting a little long in the tooth and decides for her birthday this year that she wants the whole family to go stay in a lodge she used to enjoy. Apparently too old to check the weather, Angela has brought them here in a massive storm with slippery and treacherous roads.
The roads are not the only slippery and treacherous thing about this shindig though.. This is a *blended* family and it was blended against Fiona's will because her husband Scotty too Hotty left her for Dannie with a Plannie. So now they have a young child and this is massively awkward.
They barely get settled when the cops come knocking saying that someone was severely injured in a hit and run down the road. The lack of travel due to the storm casts the blame on them. Distrust and resentment grows, culminating in one person in the group going missing. Is there time to find them and is it linked to the hit and run? Find out in The Lodge by Sue Watson!
This was a solid story and different from many of the claustrophobic thrillers I've read lately. It was more of a pressure cooker with the strained relationships and unreliable narrators, which can sometimes make you feel led on but the twist in the end was ultimately really good.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to listen and review! The narration was fantastic.
First, I would like to thank Netgalley, Sue Watson, & Bookouture Audio for an advanced copy of this audiobook.
This was a fantastic thriller! Although it was a bit slow going at first, once it picked up, it really PICKED UP! There was a point where I literally had no idea about what was going to be revealed! And I loved that little twist at the end as well.
This book also had some of my favorite things, family drama, isolated setting, and a snowy backdrop! This was my first time reading from Sue Watson, but I will definitely be picking up more! I had a great time with this!
A family reunion like no other!
The family joins together to celebrate the grandmothers 75th birthday up at the lodge. Grandma, her son, current wife and ex-wife, children from both women, and the chef all vacation together.
This book kept me guessing from the beginning. In the first half of the book you weren’t sure which ones story you like more or who you wanted to see come out on top. The second half of the book was pretty fast past in starting to get some of the secrets that all the members of the family hold. The epilogue had to of been my favorite part of the book as so many more secrets come out that you were guessing about towards the end. Would definitely recommend this book to a triller lover.
Thank you NetGallery for allowing me to be an ALC.
In this enigmatic story, the potential for greatness looms large, promising readers a ride through a maze of mysteries and surprises. The initial setup captivates, drawing readers into a world where unreliable characters keep you guessing at every turn. However, as the plot thickens and the characters' unreliability intensifies, the story loses its grip on believability.
The characters, touted as unreliable narrators, struggle to maintain authenticity, making it difficult for readers to fully invest in their journeys. While the anticipation for their eventual downfall builds, the execution lacks finesse, leaving readers waiting for a more satisfying resolution.
It's important to acknowledge that reading experiences are subjective, and what doesn't resonate with one reader might find a home in the hearts of others. For some, the intricate web of deception and unexpected twists might provide the adrenaline rush they seek in a psychological thriller.
In conclusion, this narrative, despite its flaws, offers glimpses of brilliance. Readers who appreciate unconventional storytelling and are willing to overlook inconsistencies might find the journey worthwhile. However, for those seeking a seamlessly executed tale of unreliable characters, this book might leave them wanting more.
Definately 5 stars and unputdownable book!
Absolutely fantastic! Full of twists, turns and secrets from every member of the family. A page-turner for me from the beginning as it was fast paced
I didn't expect the ending at all! Wow
Sue Watson, this was fantastic read
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookoutre Audio
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This book was so thrilling! The book kept me guessing, every time I thought I figured out who the murderer was I was proven wrong. That ending was quite good and I would not have seen that coming. This was a really good thriller.
I loved this! It's full of twists and unreliable characters. I didn't know who to trust. If you need a fast-paced thriller, I highly recommend picking this one up!
Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the audio copy of The Lodge by Sue Watson.
This was such an intriguing and captivating story. It sucked me in from the beginning and I had to find out how it would go! I loved the narrators and the way they told this story. Such a good read!!
A dysfunctional family locked-room winter thriller!🥶❄️
How can you possibly decline an invitation to a matriarch's 75th birthday getaway when she suggests it could be her last?
The birthday/family reunion is at a winter retreat destination, a coastal lodge in Cornwall. Angela's the birthday girl, her son Scott, his new wife and toddler, his ex-wife and their teens, and a cordon bleu chef are there for the celebration.
A bit slow burn but high on drama and jealousy among the wives. It was a tough choice and I couldn't pick which team to root for.
The Lodge has a promising premise and Watson's writing style drew me in from the beginning. I couldn't predict this one and was really surprised with the reveal and twists. Love the snowstorm and that no one could leave! But I wasn't sold on Scott. I don't see any qualities in him to be a good catch.
I would like to try another novel by the author as this was my first. The audiobook by two narrators was a terrific listen.
Thank you Bookouture Audio and Netgalley for the ALC.
It’s cause for celebration, Angela is celebrating her 75th birthday, and she wants her family along for the ride. They are ensconced in a glass lodge in the middle of a mountainous, snowy, isolated area. Angela has invited her son, his new wife, and his ex-wife, whom Angela is still close to. It’s not hard to see that this gathering is about to explode, and when it does, the consequences will be devastating. And edge of your seat thriller that you’ll want to read in one sitting

4/5
While at the beginning I hated all the characters and their relationships with each other, I finished this book understanding their human acts throughout the book. This book was a weird rollercoaster the truly surprised me with the twists and turns at the end. I really did not see anything coming at any point in the story and if I did I was dead wrong. The audio book actress/actresses did a really good job on the narration as well!
