I really enjoyed Welcome To The Cornish Country Hospital by Jo Bartlett. The story gripped me from the beginning and I struggled to put it down so much so I read it in one day. A fab book. Lovely descriptions of the Cornwall coast I could imagine I was there. This new series is as good as the Midwife series by Jo.

Loved every minute of this book, so intrigued by all the twists and plot. The characters were so different which kept you interested in the story. A very comfy read.

Loved this introduction to county hospital. I love that we still get a hint of the midwife series with the hilarious gwen.

The Boone as great. Glad the snake gets bit in the end.

This book was a good read, it gave greys anatomy/ Chicago med vibes throughout reading it. I really enjoyed the character development during the course of this book.

This book was great for character development and growth. Danni is off on a new adventure moving to Cornwall for a fresh start, which she get's in a way. Danni is trying to get away from ex Lucas who is now dating her friend Esther, who end up following her to the new hospital. The friendship is challenged several times in this book.

The hospital setting was well researched and almost gave grey's anatomy vibes. There was light hearted funny moments, and dark heart breaking moments throughout this book. Bartlett did a great job balancing both into the story.

This is the start of another series by Jo Bartlett with a medical focus which looks at the lives of staff connected with the Country Hospital. There are some familiar faces from her Cornish Midwife series and of course, the beautiful setting of Cornwall shines through the story. Danni has moved away from London, back to Cornwall to try to put behind her her feelings for her best friend's fiance, Lucas. A skilled doctor in the A & E Department, you see how her work overlaps with her personal life due to her caring and dedication to her patients.

Family and friendship seem to overlap with Danni as she gets so much emotional support from her friends. As the story develops, you see how she has to reevaluate her feelings and consider whether what she felt for Lucas was based on solid ground. You can see from some of her colleagues' reactions to Lucas what sort of a character he actually is. I loved this first in the series, especially the romance which was bubbling away and the descriptions of her life in Cornwall, with coastal dog walks and windswept beaches. There is huge potential for many future storylines and all I can say is,' Bring it on!'

In short: an uplifting read with great potential

What a lovely start to a brand new series aet in the brand new hospital in St Piran, serving the three port areas that were so prominent in Jo Bartlett's previous series.

And I'm delighted to say that Gwen is back, and is as fabulous as ever.

We have two main characters who I grew to lover - Connie and Danni. Danni is an A&E doctor at the hospital, who has a complicated relationship with her best friends.

And Connie who is agonising over decisions from the past, and where we start the book is involved in an awful accident.

A friendship forms between the ladies as they provide support for each other's predicaments.

I really loved Connie's story, where as Danni I liked, but found Lucas who was involved to be a big slimeball.

A really enjoyable start to this series and I am looking forward to reading the next book already.

We are introduced to Danni as our main character in this warm and welcoming new series after the midwife series. The series has a hospital setting. I wasn’t sure how a hospital setting would be with all that could possibly happen there, good and bad but the start of the series is warm and welcoming.


Danni Carter is desperately need of a new start, so she takes herself off to London from Cornwall to get away from the memory of her breakup with Lucas. To make things worse her new hospital job she’s started at as her calming escape now has Lucas and her bestie Esther there working as well. Yes, Esther who is now in a relationship with her ex-Lucas.

So much for a new start away from it all. She doesn’t want to lose her friendship with her bestie but how can she cope with being by her ex constantly and working with him.

I’ll admit, this would be a really tricky situation, working with your ex who is now going out with your best friend. That’s a situation best left alone in my opinion.


As Danni throws herself into her work, she finds herself gravitating towards the friendship of a long-term patient who has a dark secret of her own.


I was drawn to this series and rooting for the characters. Drama, friendships tested, secrets revealed, and romance thrown in for good measure.


I enjoyed the character development and the strong story line. I’ll be continuing this series.

The characters and storyline in this book was really not my cup of tea. I didn't like the best friend obsessed with her best friends fiancé trope and I really hated the fiancé as he really was playing with her feelings. Honestly everything felt over the top and I just did not enjoy this book.

Amazing book!
I was thoroughly engaged throughout this book and I didn't want to put it down! The author captured my attention from the get go! Five stars from me :)

For some reason, i might be biased but reminded me of grey's anatomy and i love this book for it, now that being sad this book felt more like a women's fiction than a romance story since the story felt more centered on the friendship that a relationship.

I love how Gwen popped up from the Cornish midwife series. If you like watching hospital drama on tv this is that in book form it had relationship drama, friendship, 999 calls. I am looking forward to reading more in the future.

I've read all of Jo's Cornish Midwife Books and it was great to head back to a familiar location and here from the cheeky Gwen whilst meeting some new characters.

I absolutely loved picking this book up every time I got 5 mins, written in such a way that you connect with the characters quickly and it doesn't take many pages to decide whether you love them or not.

A great mix of characters with a great story line, I can't wait to read more in this series

If you have read and enjoyed any of the Cornish midwife series then I am sure you will love this new series set at a hospital nearby. If you like me are late with starting that series of 8 books then you can happily start this new series without feeling overwhelmed.
I really loved Danni right from the start and her friendship with Esther is one many of us can only dream of having. I enjoyed the multiple stories in this book, with the main story being about Danni, but then also a lot of focus on Connie’s really touching story.
There was just the right mix of drama, friendship, small community, fabulous characters, romance and heartwarming moments to make me eager to read more in this series.

Danni faces a difficult decision when she leaves London to work as an A&E doctor in St. Piran’s, a place her late father loved. Her friendship with Esther is tested by her feelings for surgeon Lucas, who is now engaged to Esther. When they both follow her to Cornwall and work at the same hospital, Danni must decide between her relationship with Esther and her attraction to Lucas. Against the backdrop of hospital life, Danni becomes involved in Connie’s story, a patient with a poignant secret. The book explores themes of friendship, family, and romance, with uplifting moments despite the heartbreak. The well-researched hospital and Cornish settings, along with excellent character development, make it a highly recommended read.

Danni moves to Cornwall with the hope of forgetting her infatuation for Lucas. Lucas is off-limits because he is her best friend's fiance. When they follow her out to Cornwall, the secret starts to eat at her and haunt her. Danni meets a patient riddled with guilt from the secret she has been keeping for years. When she sees this, she decides to try to help her best friend no matter the consequences, especially when she finds out that Lucas is not who he seems to be. It's an interesting story about secrets, guilt, love, friendship and how appearances can be deceiving.
