What an enjoyable read, if you are looking for a book with great characters, a relatable storyline and a story that is easy to read, then look no further. This a cute book that makes you forget about the real world for a while. I’m so glad that there is now a second book in the series.
This genre of book is my go to as a palette cleanser between all the heavy fantasy series that I read. It is your plain and simple romance story with a hospital backdrop. It is a perfect easy read and an overall cute romance. There is no spice in this book so don't have to worry about making sure nobody is reading over your shoulder.
I will be picking up some of her other novels now as if they are all the same level of romance and cute then I will devour them.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Danni hopes for a fresh start in Cornwall, however when those she has moved away from to spare her hurt, also choose to move to Cornwall, she is conflicted. What will she decide to do and will that choice keep her friends.
A great book by an author I have read before. Strong characters with fabulous dynamics give an enjoyable read.
I love the Cornish Midwife series so when I saw this one from the same author I thought Id give it a go too. Yes it will probably be classed as chick lit but I think the characters really sing and have heart and you actually care for them through the story. Theres funny moments and some sad ones too and it all comes together to make a really great read.
what a great book! to be honest i knew i would love it as this author knows how to draw her readers in with characters that you fall in love with, want to be friends or you really don’t like them (lucas im talking about you!)
can’t wait to see what comes next
A celebration of the hard working NHS and the start of a new series by Jo Bartlett. Lovely book. I can't wait to learn more about the characters and join them on their journey
The start of a new series from Jo Bartlett, set in a new hospital St. Pirans , but with new and old characters from the Cornish Midwife’s series. I loved Danni, Esther and Connie’s stories, it was a great storyline, drama, secrets and intrigue. Loved it and would highly recommend
Thank you to Netgalley, Jo Bartlett and Boldwood Books for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review
I had read Bartletts other books about midwives and was interested to try this one. The author does a good job of character development and building a strong storyline. This one was a great start to what I hope is a new series. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read this book.

Actual rating: 4⭐️ (no spice, closed door romance)
"Welcome to the Cornish Country Hospital " is already out for more than a month, and now I am annoyed with myself I didn't pick it up sooner.
This book is about Danni who wants to have a fresh start by moving to Cornwall after secretly being in love with Esther's fiancée Lucas for years, and wanting to outrun the constant temptation. Only to realise that Lucas and Esther followed her and even got jobs at the same hospital as her. Danni has to face the challenge and find a way to get over him, because hurting her best friend Esther isn't an option.
Danni; what a caring and intelligent character. I loved that she is flawed, but in such a realistic manner. Danni is a lovely person who wants to do right by everyone and puts the happiness of others way too easily before her own. I felt with her and her inner turmoil and cherished her happy moments.
I loved the bond Esther and Danni have; they are like sisters to each other. Esther seems like such a genuine and loving person too, you could really feel the love these characters have for each other.
Now I need to mention Connie. Without her, the story would not have been complete. She is the patient Danni connects with and who will be playing quite an important role. Her story reminded me of "Letters to Juliet" and I was all for it.
And lastly, without spoiling it for you, I adored HIM. I couldn't stop smiling and grinning with all these adorable moments. There were a lot of "awwws" involved and I caught myself pinning after a endearing yet fictional character.
And that setting?! Perfect! I loved every aspect of it; the hospital setting, the cases and on the other hand the lavish nature setting. I had such a beautiful scenery in my head.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. Although it had a slow start, I couldn't put the book down once the pace picked up and everything fell into place. This was such a sweet and charming story. The plot was a little predictable but I don't think a lot of people read this genre for plots and twists ;)
You should definitely pick it up if you like cute romances and want an easy read with a hospital setting (maybe Grey's anatomy style) and beautifully written nature scenes on top.
What a lovely story of how true friendship always wins through.
When Danni moves to Cornwall to get away from the man she thinks she’s in love with she starts to make a new life for herself. Suddenly he’s back on the scene and her life is in turmoil.
When she is called to an emergency to help at a bus crash she helps Connie and the lonely life she thought she had changes forever.
I’m excited to see what life has in store for everyone in The Cornish Country Hospital especially with the Cornish midwife’s popping up.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC of Jos lovely book.
A hospital in Cornwall, a woman with a best friend and the best friend's partner who makes everything very complicated. Then, a big traffic accident that changes everything.
I really enjoyed this book. It was not as predictable as some romance books tend to be and the dynamics between the people were really interesting. I feel like the plot was really enjoyable and not too complicated but it was enough to keep me reading. I loved the Cornwall setting and the ending was perfect. I am going to read more Jo Bartlett for sure!
Having enjoyed this author’s Cornish Midwife series, was so pleased to have the opportunity to read this first book in her new series.
Once again a wonderful storyline, great characters and a wonderful easy read, can’t wait for the next instalment
I'd loved every Cornish Midwife book
So at this new series I had to look.
I'm pleased to say I'm so glad I did and so
Highly recommend you also give it a go!
Danni Carter moves to Cornwall for a fresh start.
She's sure it is time for her to part.
Her crush on the fiancé of her best friend
She really has to end!
However, when they follow her to work in the same hospital, too,
Danni is uncertain about just what she should do!
Should she run away to work elsewhere again
For their wedding and future is sure to cause her pain.
With new patients, friends and someone's secrets to help conceal
Danni has so much with which to deal!
Will a surprise encounter and revelations help at all
And is there a chance for her into true love at last to fall?
A lovely read that had me engrossed in every part
And connecting to the characters right from the very start.
It was good to catch up on characters from the Midwife series, too,
And I have no hesitation in highly recommending both to you!
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.
Enjoyable easy read. Characters were interesting and loved how the story unfolded. Perfect book to unwind with. Would recommend
I was so excited to hear that there was a new series by Jo Bartlett, especially one which was set in a Hospital. I love Medical dramas and this one certainly lived up to my expectations.
I loved everything about this book, the characters, the Medical parts , the dramas and the secrets. There were some hard hitting themes in this book, but heartwarming moments too.
I really enjoyed reading this book and can't wait for the next book in the series.
Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood books for my ARC.
Really charming story, gorgeous setting, very well written, flowed well, great characters that i could really connect too, and it was a lovely read, Jo never lets you down.
Oooh, the start of a new series is always exciting!! I have enjoyed previous books by this author so it was a no-brainer to read this one. It didn't disappoint.
Danni has been in love with Lucas for years....only, he is engaged to her best friend, Esther. This situation cannot continue, so Danni moves from London to Cornwall and is settling in nicely. She has work she likes, colleagues who are caring and a lovely cottage. She can keep her secret much easier, now she doesn't have to see Lucas every day at work.
During a call out to a major accident, Danni meets Connie, an older lady who has secrets of her own and Danni finds herself bonding with Connie and discovers what her secrets are. And they are big ones!
Now something readers need to know is that this book isn't a light and fluffy romance novel. This book is about friendship and relationships....but especially friendship and how to navigate friendships even when things get hard. I do love the way the characters in this book deal with some quite difficult topics in a realistic and yet satisfying way.
I liked it and am looking forward to going back to Kara and finding out what happens next!
4.5 stars from me....the ending was a bit abrupt, just saying!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books.
I was super excited to start a new @jo_bartlett123 series and this didn't disappoint. This book has such a heartfelt and relatable story. The characters are so well developed and all work well together and there are beautiful friendships and chemistry. throughout. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel and I'm sure you will be too.
This is a charming little country romance, the only thing I’d say is if you have health anxiety then it might not be a great book for you because it’s set largely within a hospital/the medical field.
At the start of the book I wasn’t sure which direction this would take, whether she’d end up with the person she’d be pining for or if she would finally be able to move on. Luckily, it went the way I hoped it would!
I enjoyed all the characters, and it was so great to have a Jo Bartlett book to review again. I’m looking forward to when the next book in the series is out.
✨My Thoughts✨
Danni thought she’d got far enough away from Lucas who is her best friend Esther’s fiancée by starting a new job at the new St Piran’s hospital in Port Kara, Cornwall but then they decide to move half a mile away from Danni’s new cottage and get jobs at the same hospital, the reason why Danni wanted to get away from everything is because she’s hopelessly in love with Lucas.
Has she made a terrible mistake?.
This gave me serious Grey’s Anatomy vibes, if you know the show then you’ll know exactly what I mean.
This story was so hard to put down and even when I’d finished it I needed more.
Danni is such a strong and very likeable character that I was rooting for, I was hoping she’d change her mind about Lucas and see him for what he really was.
One of Danni’s patients an older lady called Connie is also integral to Danni’s story in a roundabout way and Connie has her own emotional, heartbreaking story of her own but I won’t say anymore you have to read it for yourself.
Sign me up for all the rest of the series immediately, it’s just perfect in every way.
