Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
The ChatGPT Ninja: Slipping Past AI Detectors by Neil Dagger is a compelling read for anyone intrigued by the intersection of artificial intelligence and daily life. Dagger’s book is not just a manual; it’s a thought-provoking exploration of the ethical and practical implications of using AI tools like ChatGPT in a world increasingly vigilant against AI-generated content.
The book is structured as a step-by-step guide, offering readers strategies to use ChatGPT effectively while avoiding detection by AI content detectors. Dagger delves into the mechanics of how these detectors work and provides insight into who uses them and why. The narrative is engaging, filled with real-world scenarios that highlight the tactical advantages of AI tools and the resistance they face from institutions clinging to the status quo.
One of the book’s strengths is its practicality. It includes a walkthrough of what to do if one is accused of using AI-generated content and how to replicate one’s writing style using generative AI, which is invaluable for maintaining authenticity. Moreover, Dagger’s inclusion of a list of 10 amazing AI tools is a treasure trove for readers looking to expand their AI toolkit.
However, the book is not without its controversies. Dagger’s approach to “slipping past” detectors could be seen as advocating for deception, raising questions about honesty and transparency in academic and professional settings. This moral gray area is where the book truly shines, prompting readers to consider the broader implications of AI in society.
Although I learned little in this book, it's also a short book.
Here's what I learned:
1) How you write your prompt has huge impact. You can ask ChatGPT to answer without sounding like ChatGPT! I like to ask it to write humorous responses because they're less likely to trigger an AI sleuth.
2) RUNWAYML is an exciting GPT that creates videos.
Although this book will stay relevant throughout 2024, by 2025, you need to look elsewhere.
Read it while it's hot of the presses!
this topic really is the wild Wild West and I went through the book and learned a few more tricks and tips. Thanks for the opportunity to read.
A quick easy read. I was interested in this book as an educator because I want to be (or try to be) one step ahead of my students. This book serves its purpose indeed but on a wider scheme of things in not sure if that's a good thing. This is a must read for all educators, I'd say.
An indispensable guide for anyone looking to harness the power of AI without the fear of detection. Neil breaks down the complexities of AI content detection and provides clear, actionable strategies to not only avoid detection but also replicate your own writing style seamlessly. This book is a game-changer for those who want to work smarter, faster, and more efficiently, whether at work or school. Neil's insights and tips are incredibly valuable, making this book a must-have resource for anyone navigating the world of AI-generated content.
Looking to outsmart AI content detectors and unleash the full potential of ChatGPT? Look no further than The ChatGPT Ninja by Neil Dagger! This book is a game-changer for anyone tired of the constant battle with content detectors in the digital age. Neil's writing is relatable and straightforward, making complex AI concepts easy to grasp. With practical advice and a step-by-step approach, he empowers readers to use AI tools like ChatGPT with confidence. If you want to supercharge your productivity, save time, and avoid detection, this book is a game-changer. Plus, the bonus audio course on making five figures per month using ChatGPT is a fantastic addition to an already incredible resource!
A delight for the time-strapped student or executive. The book gives you a look below the hood without treating you like a 5-year old or padding pages with extraneous content. What I like is that there is no attempt to dress this book at all. It has the flow and structure aligned with the topic and knowledge-crunching requirements of the reader. The book is a short read and this is how you want it to be. All the info is in there, and you'll finish it in two reading sessions. Personally, this is the stuff I wanted to know for a long time. But didn't dare ask Google due to the sheer volume of fragmented content it would throw back at me.
I picked this up to learn more about how students might potentially manipulate ChatGPT to pass off as their own writing -- and so the overview of how to adapt voice/tone/syntax through multi-step prompts was interesting. I found more here than I thought I would - a discussion of AI and ethics, contextual information on the development and adoption of AI, etc., and so that was surprising, though this extra content isn't much more than one could find online anyways. The book also includes a list of AI tools one might test, and it included Otter.ai, a favorite transcription tool of mine and my students. Overall, the quality of the writing isn't anything special - I found myself asking how much of the book had been written with ChatGPT, but it is a quick read!
Finally! A book about ChatGPT that is readable and thorough. You can't beat this book if you want to learn about ChatGPT
On the plus side, this is a quick read, and it's less unethical in presentation than the title and summary make it seem. That noted, this is pretty disturbing. One mention of the potential degradation of critical thinking skills is just not enough. If folks knew the frightening skill gaps we were starting to see in College classrooms, I think they'd be more apt to advocate for in-class, tech-free demonstrations of knowledge versus learning how to become a ChatGPT "Ninja."
We are about six months away from making _Idiocracy_ a documentary and watering the grass with Gatorade. This book - in some ways - may help to facilitate that downfall.
