Will and Berkeley are in love and have been together since high school. But Will comes from a rich family, who doesn't think she's good enough for him and are constantly trying to drive them apart. When Will agrees to do a reality show with his brother and keeps this information from Berkeley, his family reveals this secret to Berkeley, and they face their biggest challenge yet, which might also tear them apart.
A story full of emotion, with strong and interesting characters, it addresses difficult topics like alcoholism and family abuse, which brought a whole new depth to the story. There are plenty of moments that will pull at your heartstrings, but there are also moments that will put a smile on your face. The author did a good job of pulling me into the story and holding my interest till the end. The characters are well-developed and I enjoyed seeing their growth throughout the book. It was an enjoyable story of second chances and an everlasting love.
My thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for providing a complimentary copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Not the best book by Aimee. I didn't feel the story in this one and I didn't feel the chemistry or the love. Aimee has written better books that I would recommend.
I loved this easy romance book. Was immediatley captured in the story. This was my first book by this author and it wont be the last
A sweet and fun romcom
Berkley is lucky: she found the man for her at a young age and has been living the perfect romance since then. The only problem is that they're not from the same world; Will's family is very rich, famous and influential, and they don't see Berkley as the ideal daughter-in-law. Determined to drive them apart, Will's family talk him into signing a deal to be part of a reality TV show with his brother. But Berkley learns about it from his family instead of him. And it means that he will have to be away for the next two years. Can their love for each other survive the distance, the media and the lies?
This book is not your usual romcom and I was there for it. It was exciting and enticing, very addictive in a new way that really drew me in. The characters are very interesting, well fleshed-out and with struggles and goals that are real and relatable, even if my life is very different from theirs. It was sweet and touching to see them being torn apart by the media, money and everything in between, but still keep those warm feelings of young love. The only thing I could say is that the book felt a bit too long, as it happens over several years. I felt like it was a bit slow at times, but I really enjoyed this story nonetheless, with its funny moments, the more emotional and difficult ones, but also the love that was easily palpable in every page. It was truly a beautiful story.
I recommend if you like romances that happen over several years and the crazy world of reality TV.
"Let's show the world what true love really is."
2,5*
I'm really sorry about this rating, because I already read some of Aimee Brown books and I like her style, but there so much angst and toxic love in this one I really couldn't put up with it.
The story is not bad per se, Berkley is in love and thinks she's about to begin her life together with Will, they have plans, a place they had redecorated mostly finished, she love her job in a bookstore and she's just graduated.
But plans don't always play out as expected: Will is from a rich family and is relationship is not something his parents are approving; he accept a job proposal for a new reality as a star in a serie about rich child to please his parents, but he doesn't mention it to Berkley.
This is just the premise of the first betrayal Will commits, but he still proclaims to love Berkley and that he can't give her up. They keep being tyed to one another, hurting themself.
There is some solace and some dreamy moments in this story but, it was mostly painful.
I guess someone might like it, it's nicely written and there's a HEA afterall... but it surely can't be described as an easy read.
Thank you Netgalley for providing this book as an ARC in exchange of an honest review.
Aimee strikes again with a really great, laugh out loud funny, romance. This one was a departure from her latest books. She has built a new world with a super duper rich ruling family known as the Adler's. The main character Berkley has just broken up with her boyfriend of 7 years because he allowed his family to strong arm him into signing onto a reality tv show. She never wanted her life to be shown to millions of people and she couldn't stand by when he walked away from the life they were supposed to have together. William has rich boy syndrome. He's doing the show to make his own money and get away from his parents. The book follows the two as they are continuously brought into each others orbits and about how they just can never stay away from each other. I really enjoyed how their getting back together was written. I seriously suggest you pick up this book to see how William wins Berkley back. There is an incredible karma ridden plot twist at the end that will have you screaming!
This was such a fun read! I found myself laughing out loud many times and it kept my attention the whole book! Def a book I will recommend!
I really liked the premise, and the overall idea of the book. I just could not appreciate or like the main characters, and I never got past it. The tone of the book went so far past just making them believable, to make them also unlikable.
I really enjoyed the humour in this book and the connection between Berkley and Will was so beautiful to read. I enjoyed that Mike got a character arc but I do wish we had been able to see a little more of that to give him more of a setup as a likeable character.
This is a thwarted contemporary romance
Where Will Adler's family won't give Berkley a chance
They've been together since they were teens at school
But his parents are rich and think he needs someone rich and cool.
A gathering of his family reveals secrets and lies
Will their machinations ensure their love dies?
Reality TV, notoriety and potential fame
Mean life for this pair will never be the same.
Family dramas, parties and a surfeit of booze
All being closely monitored - and shared - by film crews.
This is not anything that Berkley Kaine needs
So maybe his parents will succeed.
A story of true love being put to the test
Where looking out for yourself is definitely best.
Where learning to stand on your own two feet
Is the only way manipulators can be beat!
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.
Just at 22 pages in and I am laughing out loud and loving Berkeley s energy from the start.
This had many unexpected turns, some heart aching moments, and some amazing friends. With social and family pressure and alcoholism too.
The characters are just fantastic, I really loved Berkeley.
A huge thanks to Boldwood Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.
This read like a trashy reality TV show, the kind where you want to stop watching but you're glued to the train wreck till it ends. I wanted to DNF a couple of times, but I committed to sticking it out till the end.
Ironically, the main premise of it was Will, the MMC, joining a reality TV show "against his will" in order to have some financial independence for his future with his longtime girlfriend Berkley. She didn't like that for him, especially as he didn't tell her about it till the last minute.
What followed was a level of codependence that became so toxic, I wondered how it would be considered healthy. Will was a hot mess whilst Berkley was hard to root for with all the snark that she contained. The level of pettiness was also epic. Why date someone on and off for over a year just to piss off your ex yet you clearly still love them?
The resolution felt too rushed, but seeing as they were together for eight years before breaking up, you could say their history played a part in it. First time trying this author so I'm a bit reluctant to try her other books.
Thank you to Netgalley and Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this story. Will's family was a bit much, but anyone with difficult inlaws can relate, at least to a degree! I enjoyed these characters and their HEA.
I enjoyed the writing but not so much the storyline. It’s not really believable and I couldn’t get past him choosing the show (and money) over the love of his life. And his family is over-the-top cruel. I put the book down half way through and I am having trouble getting back into it. I will update this review if I get the urge to pick the book back up and finish.
I think this my favourite @authoraimeeb book. I loved the 'first love' element to to this story and it feels so real and relatable. I think Berkeley and Will have an amazing chemistry that will have you flying through the chapters. I was hooked from the start and was rooting for them to get their well deserved happy ending.
Thiw one was just a seet and cute fast pick me up type of book. I really enjoyed readin this one. Thanks to netgalley for this arc
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
I can’t resist an Aimee Brown novel. Brown has a way of weaving together a story that will make you laugh, cry, and feel various emotions. This particular novel follows the story of Berkley “Berx” Kaine and William “Will” Adler, and it is my favorite Brown novel so far.
Graduating college is supposed to be a time of excitement and preparation for the next chapter of life. But for Berx, it became a time of heartbreak and disappointment. Her boyfriend, Will, had signed a two-year contract to be on a reality show without consulting her. This decision left Berkley feeling hurt and abandoned as if the life they planned together was unimportant to him.
As the reality show airs, William’s behavior becomes more erratic and destructive, leading him down a dark path. He becomes known as “Prince Willy the party boy” to the public, a far cry from the man Berkley fell in love with. He begins to realize the damaging effects of his behavior and how it’s affecting Berx. Is it too late to win Berx back? Can Will become the man she deserves? It’s a difficult road ahead, but with dedication and commitment, it’s possible. Berx will have to decide if she’s willing to forgive and move forward with Will, and he will have to prove that his love for her is genuine and not just a fleeting desire for validation.
It’s hard not to feel for Berx. She’s a strong and independent woman who knows what she wants out of life. She’s not afraid to go after it, even if it means leaving behind the person she has loved for years. It’s inspiring to see someone stick to their goals no matter what obstacles they face. In addition, I fangirled on Berx’s wonderful and scathing comebacks to the nasty and hateful Adlers.
Will, on the other hand, is a charming and very loyal person who wants to break away from his poisonous family by earning his own living. He just went about it the wrong way by jeopardizing his relationship with the only person who loved him for who he was and not for his money and status. I was so in love with his devotion to Berx and his persistence in getting her back though it seemed like a losing battle.
No great story is complete without a cast of supporting characters to add depth and complexity to the plot. The Adler family, for example, was absolutely despicable, with their greed and selfishness. On the other hand, Berx’s hilarious friends and family were steadfast and true, providing a source of strength and support for her throughout the ups and downs of the story.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a fun, captivating story with plenty of heart. The characters are engaging, the plot is compelling, and the theme is timeless and relevant. Whether you’re looking for a new favorite read or just a diversion from the stresses of daily life, this book is sure to deliver.
Thank you to Ms. Brown for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
Will and Berkley are high school sweethearts despite Will's parents desperation to break them apart. Will from an affluent high class family on the West Coast is being cast in a reality TV series based on young adult socialites. Will and Berkley's relationship slowly unravels.
Can Will and Berkley find their way back to each other despite poor choices?
I honestly think I am just too old for this book which is why I am not giving the book a poor rating. As a middle aged woman, I found myself getting so frustrated with Will and Berkley.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
