This book was hilarious! I couldn’t stop laughing! Sonny and Lara work together, sort of, it’s two different magazines, anyway they were sent on an assignment where rich and famous people will be, and they had to act like they are together. First of all everything about their travels was funny, the prank Sonny pulled on her, the others who are in the retreat are also funny AF. It was an all around funny read, we get the romance of course, it was a little it of a slow burn, but it was a smooth and fun book.

Enemies to Lovers is exactly what it says on the cover. Lara and Sonny are constantly working against each other as rival showbiz journalists, always trying to one up each other.

I do love an enemies to lovers romance, however there were times with this one that it was predictable which is why I only gave it three stars. Although I really enjoyed the storyline and finding out more about Lara and Sonny’s past relationship throughout their time at Eden.

If you’re a fan of a quick romance read I would definitely recommend this one!

Oooof, sadly, I didn't like this as much as I hoped. I REALLY wanted to like it as I loved the premise of it. However, despite a few chuckles, I found myself easily putting my phone down from reading and even skim reading some pages. I didn't feel a good build-up of tension between Sonny and Lara to get into the story.

Obviously, this wasn't a match for me, but it might be for someone else!

Sadly when both mc’s are blonde i cant help but imagine them as siblings. Also don’t like how these two are more like rivals than enemies. Total misuse of the word

Is it really enemies to lovers if the rivalry is one-sided and mostly in her head?

This book has is a great premise with enemies to lovers, forced proximity, undercover work assignment, AND a fake relationship. But it fell short for me. The main character is childish and self-absorbed. The love interest is just a cardboard Hemsworth shaped cutout without much personality.

The couple's retreat was supposed to be like Nine Perfect Strangers but it was more like a bad 90s summer camp. It was strange that the main character was there on an undercover work assignment but after one day the other attendees were her best friends and she sells out for the first person offering contraband pizza. Even the ending was off for how the main character was portrayed for 90% of the book.

I’ve always loved Portia’s books so when I had the opportunity to read and review Enemies to Lovers I was really pleased!
I’ve ended up reading it late into the night most nights as it grips you into wanting to always know more.
It’s a light hearted fun book but I still found myself unable to put it down. It’s about work rivals Lara and Sonny and how they get thrown into a joint task.
Really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend!

This story was an absolute blast. It had some cool and unique twists. I tore through it because it was such a fun and quick read.

The characters were awesome. There were plenty of interesting side characters, and I felt like I really got to know them as well as Lara and Sonny. They might not have been full-on enemies, but the tension between them was well done, and I liked how their backstory was woven in.

Oh, and that moment with Sonny and the food? Hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing at some of the lines. And the ending? It was great, everything wrapped up nicely. But honestly, I can't help but wish for a little bonus chapter or something in the future. I loved the ending, and I'd have a blast revisiting these characters.

It’s easy to fly through this book, it’s a closed door romance, I had so much fun and I laughed a lot too. I was sick while reading but the book helped me feel better 🥹. I wish it was double POV but it’s only in Lara’s and she is definitely an over-thinker 🤦🏻‍♀️.
It has lovable characters, getting into rich people’s minds and seeing their struggles was enlightening and although the book was cheesy and predictable, I enjoyed it so much.

Sunny and Lara are work rivals with a lot of funny comebacks, and totally different personalities. Something happened that they are being forced to work together (this led them to share a bed 😉), to discover something that may or may not destroy other people’s life.

I enjoyed reading this book.

Lara and Sonny work in the same business as showbiz journalists, each time they try t be the first to get the scoop and trying to make things difficult for the other person.

But, when their employer informs them to unite and go undercover in an exclusive celebrity retreat, they aren’t exactly jumping for joy. But, in order to do this, they’ll have to pretend to be a couple, who are having couples therapy so that they aren’t found out.

Most people would love being on the island they’re on, but not Sonny and Lara.

So, will being in the sun, sea and unearthing secrets of the celebrities bring them closer?

What will happen after that week? Will they go back to being rivals or something more?

I recommend this book.

I really love Portia MacIntosh books but unfortunately I just didn't love this one.

I felt the plot was confused, it couldn't make up it's mind between thriller, romance, contemporary and it didn't work blended, and the main 'trope' being enemies to lovers was also not quite that powerful, in fact it was more 'co-worker rivalry', not enough angst, not enough tension, not enough mystery to be a mystery.

Brett wasn't developed enough to contribute to the story in the way he did. In fact I felt all of the characters were underdeveloped, and whilst I generally don't mind a quick happy ending, the resolution felt like it took half a page before it had a big bow to wrap it all up.

Unfortunately it feels incomplete to me, in terms of missing some detail to really glow up the plot line and characters. I really do love Portia and will continue reading her books, but this one unfortunately didn't work for me.

Enemies to Lovers was cute. It was your typical work enemy relationship with a backstory. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters. I do feel the author sped up the ending too much. All in all a cute read. I loved the idea of this secret island and the otter exercise.

🏝️I loved the setting and the premise for this one. I don’t actual know where it is set… but somewhere tropical is good enough for me!

In the spirit of a balanced review, the one thing I wasn’t sure about was the start, it almost felt as though the first few chapters were missing, as if I came in halfway through the party and I wasn’t sure if I missed something. But the book came good and delivered as always!

This was a quick and easy read and I enjoy the author’s writing style. Unfortunately the romance did not really hit the spot for me. There wasn’t much chemistry and I did not get a lot of personality from either Lara or Sonny. I liked the island setting and the connections they made with the other couples but their own love story fell flat. 2.5 stars⭐️

To me, this book had big vibes à la “nine perfect strangers (minus the thriller bit) meets couples therapy”. And I had so much fun.

I normally don’t read a lot of romance, and I have been trying to get more into this genre for a while. I was so glad when I received this DRC of Enemies to Lovers. It was a great combination of romance, rich people problems (one of my favourites), self-reflection. All with a sense that something is wrong.

The story follows Lara and Sonny, two showbiz journalists working for “sibling magazines”. They have a turbulent past, turned into today’s rivalry. After a fairly public accident, they find themselves on a shared assignment: playing the part of a trouble couple at Eden, a super secretive and exclusive resort-slash-couples-therapy-centre for celebrities. They are on the hunt for scoops but…not everything is as it seems.

This book was definitely a diversion from the SFF and Crime books that I normally read, where romance is in the background or non-existent. And I loved it for this. I needed something light (but not dumb), fun, with a happy ending and “medium stakes”. Boy did Portia MacIntosh deliver.

I really liked how the characters were complex, relatable, and lovely (the guests more than our heroes, tbh). I also really loved the setting. It was so lush, realistic, I was truly jealous of not being there. The only thing that didn’t do it for me was the ending. Literally, the last paragraph. I was here for the happy ending, of course, but I did find the last gesture too much of a cliché.

Cliché notwithstanding, I thoroughly enjoyed this reading experience, and will pick up more romance from now on. Wholeheartedly recommended to all the romance sceptics out there! So. Much. Fun.

Enemies to Lovers was a sweet romcom about two journalists who get sent on assignment to an exclusive rehab facility to find the big scoop on a notorious celebrity couple. The problem? They can’t stand each other.

This book was a great beach read, and a nice palette cleanser between some heavy reads I took on recently. I would recommend for anyone going on a nice sunny vacation!

I read this as I like Portia Macintosh’s style of writing and genuine laugh out loud moments. Had it not been a Portia book, I don’t think I would have picked this book up, based on the title, which isn’t quite fitting. I wouldn’t say the main characters were enemies, rivals maybe.

The premise is fun, you can tell it’s a world that the author knows well. The characters were well-written and likeable, especially the celebrities in the exclusive resort. The two main characters became more likeable as the story progressed.

Clean workplace enemies to lovers romance (closed door scenes). The FMC was quite irritating - I found her pretty childish and petty, and really, she was the cause of her own problems. The premise of the story had a lot of potential, but the FMC’s internal driving forces and how she acts out her grudge kept me from relating to her. I honestly preferred the side characters to them characters.

Not to mention, a journalist she had no inclination to be suspicious of a clearly suspicious character? I found the FMC’s response to that character in particular completely ridiculous. I’m sorry to say this was a pretty frustrating read for me.
