In summary: Time travel with a twist.

I love this book! I loved the science ideas threaded through the story, I loved the characters, I loved the plot as well.
Cleo McCarthy is a time traveller with a twist. She can relive her life over and over from the anchor point of discovery that she can time travel. I liked the main character Cleo a lot. The author managed to craft a character that is interesting, give the character good plot arc with a satisfying ending. The only thing if I had to be picky would be the fact that Cleo has Parkinson’s disease. I wondered if cancer might have fit better in the mix. That aside, I still enjoyed following Cleo throughout the story.
I liked Franklin, the villain of sorts (he came from a good place, sort of anti hero) and understood why he did what he did throughout the story, it was a nice little plot twist at the end of the story. I liked the way the reader kind of figured out he was self serving villain at certain points, but disguised it well with being a guide to Cleo.
I liked the romance arc mostly. I felt that the romance between Cleo and Bobby could use some work. I wondered how Cleo and Bobby’s timeline did not change all that much through all the time jumps that occurred. For me it was a bit weak. I found I asked myself how do these two anchor themselves throughout all the time jumps other than being already friends before the revelation Cleo is a time traveller.

I have very strong feelings about time travel, and so I know that I can be a harsh critic. Please keep that in mind.

This did not fly for me as a story. I found the plot to be unique, just not to my taste.

Much of this story felt like reading a conversation about time travel and its feasibility, with a lot of coverage of theories and rules. What 'science' theorizes and what is 'true' according to experience in the book are both discussed at length.

One thing I did not expect to like, but thought worked really well, was that this story is written in the present tense. I quite liked the way it made the whole story 'in the moment!

At it's core, this story had some fantastic ideas, and it's left me with a lot to think about.

Thanks to NetGalley and Michael Poeltl for allowing me to read in exchange for a review.

CLEO MCCARTHY TIME TRAVEL & OTHER IMPOSSIBLE THINGS by Michael Poeltl was a unique read. The story of Cleo McCarthy, a young woman who suddenly learns that she can time travel, with caveats and requirements that slam into her, forever altering who she knows herself and reality to be. While she's still reeling from diagnosis of early onset Parkinson's Disease, Cleo must contend with a wise guide and an unexpected lover in an old friend who is the single most qualified person to help her figure out how to cope with time travel and fulfilling the strange, urgent quest coming from beyond. I loved the time travel loops and the overall plot which kept moving along. However, the writing style and actual story I read did not match the intricacy nor artistry of the story line, falling fall short and stopping me in my tracks more than once with awkward syntax, misspelling, and overly ponderous scientific explanations of physics that frankly got in the way of the story of a determined young woman. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.

Fun read. Wasn't overly scientific when dealing with time travel which made this book very enjoyable. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book

Well what an unusual book. Certainly a totally different take on time travel. So much of it, unfortunately, read like a text book and was almost impossible to understand. However that didn't really deter from the build-up at the end, which was, again, odd. All the ends tied up neatly though and that's usually the aim. It didn't help reading an unproofed copy as there were lots of typos and lines out of place which made it tricky to get through.
Would I recommend? Probably not.
Would I read another by this author? Maybe.

I loved the concept and the main character was strong. The style of writing wasn’t quite to my preference. I can see it making a great screenplay and think it would play out well as a film.

Thanks Michael Poeltl, Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for this free ARC in exchange for a review.

Unlike some of the time travel novels coming out in recent years, this one goes a bit differently than expected, and that's a good thing.

One thing to note: There are several places where sentences aren't finished, so that should be fixed before the final release.

Overall this was a good sci-fi mystery that kept my attention, so I would read more from this author.
