This book is one in a series where each covers a specific type of military aircraft, in this case the Spitfire. The Spitfire was one of the most famous fighter aircraft of World War 2. Well illustrated with fairly detailed descriptions of all the various versions of the aircraft.
An excellent pictorial history of the amazing development of the Spitfire from before the war to the mid 1940s, emphasising the phenomenal potential of the airframe initially conceived by Mitchell. As the book demonstrates so very well, the Spitfire was not one plane but a whole family, from highly manoeuvrable fighter, to high altitude PR machine via ground attack and V1 destroyer. For anyone interested in WW2 aircraft this is a must read.
Strongly recommended.
I use to collect two magazines, 'International Air Power Review' and 'World Air Power', both which have articles about the WWII Supermarine Spitfire. In fact many of the pictures come from those sources. This book is okay should you need a comprehensive book about the Spitfire and it's variances.
