The premise of this outstanding novel is original and highly compelling. The author introduces us to Wellowfern - at first glance a quiet backwater for the well-to-do elderly. It is a quarter of a century in the future.
The Institute running Wellowfern has found ways of extending life and slowing down the aging process.
The characters are all believable and there is smart evolutionary world building. There are cybirds with humanlike emotions and polypills to enhance life and dreams, but outside this apparent paradise cholera, not present in England since 1866, rages. There is little food or medication and a dangerous black market.
This is a terrifying glimpse of perverted idealism, beautifully written, and vast in its imaginary scope.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
I enjoyed this book.
Now without giving spoilers….
The characters were well thought out and likeable, the plot was paced well that made sense.
I would recommend this book to others who enjoy reading YA fiction, fantasy/sci fi type novels.
