I loved this book and it has to be one of the highlights of my November reads so far. It is cute, has grumpy sunshine and is not overly Christmas but gets you in spirit.

Penny is a primary school teacher who has just broken up or a boyfriend of 10 years as decided to take nanny job minding two adorable twins down in Dorset. There mother Bunny needs the help over Christmas with her hands fun. Penny was planning to go to India after Christmas to get away and have an adventure. She's still getting over that she's wasted 10 years on a man who doesn't love her like she loved him and claims she'll never love again.

In steps Mr grumpy Lando, the twins uncle who's house they are staying in. All he wants to do is wood carving and staying away from his old big business self after it left him burnt-out. He's sceptical about Penny until he see's her with the twins.

Lando and Penny come off real, Penny doesn't consider herself anything great or attractive and the most fun she had was with her classes. Lando is haunted in a way with his past self and is scared how easy he could go down that path again with his connection with his brother and ex who just don't understand him.

Each character has their own story maybe I wished there was more focus on just Lando and Penny maybe Bunny and her husband Ben could get their own story. Definitely 4.5 stars.

"Christmas with the Lords" by Hannah Langdon was such a joy to read because it was one of those books where you felt good about the characters and their myriad adventures and sweet romances. It was a clean-cut storyline about the main character, Penny, who questioned the direction of her life and the choices she should make after a painful breakup from a 10-year relationship with Timothy. Penny found herself in a situation where either she could continue with her teaching at home in London or live out her life for a thrilling adventure by following her mother to India; however, amidst these choices, she was offered a position to assist the Lords, a fairly well-to-do and affluent family, in Dorset to babysit Bunny's twins. The ensuing comical mishaps and the formation of new friendships between Penny and the Lords family after her arrival to their mansion, was endearing and very light-hearted with the author's descriptive narration of their interactions. I felt compelled to cheer on Bunny and her own issues of potential abandonment by her spouse, Ben, particularly in light of her new medical condition (which I hope does not spoil the story for other readers here). Also compelling were Penny's fumbling attempts to deal with her newfound attraction to Lando, the brother of Ben, in light of her still indecisive mind concerning the salvaging of her relationship with Timothy; all the back-and-forth moments of certainty and uncertainty that Penny was facing in her encounters with Lando brought me to a whole level of understanding as it resonated with my own experiences. Their dynamic interactions, though at times angst-ridden, impressed upon me a sense of delightful anticipation for what would follow next and I was not disappointed at the outcome. Penny and Lando's captivating romance while unbeknownst to both characters during the storyline, had each of them dealing with their own inadequacies and one could not help but cheer them on.

Hannah Langdon's "Christmas with the Lords" is a beautiful story about relationships and their intricate complexities as shown between lovers, between friends, between child and parent; also tellingly the story demonstrates how relationships can grow out of painful situations and the choices one must make to ensure that opportunities for love and family do not get missed.

Reading this book with the Christmas holidays coming up, I couldn't help but enjoy every aspect of this book immensely. I highly recommend it as a pick-me-upper. I hope to read more novels from this wonderful author! Thank you Hannah Langdon!

the book starts off with the female main character, Penny, who is on her way to Dorset to spend a couple of weeks with the Lord family and help take care of 4-year-old twins, Phina and Caspy. we get to meet most of the characters right at the beginning, and they are an absolute delight (except for maybe Lando, who is the male main character - he is somewhat moody because of his past™).

what I loved the most is that the characters weren’t one-dimensional or just part of the background - they had personality, worries, joys. I initially went into this book looking forward to the romance, but I ended up staying because of all the other characters. for the first half of the book, the interactions between Penny and Lando were barely there and I couldn’t feel any chemistry between them. the two of them don’t interact as much as Penny and the other family members, so most of what we learn about Lando comes from what the other characters share with Penny. I actually became more invested in Bunny and Ben’s story (who are the twins’ parents).

there are a lot of really fun and cozy scenes throughout the book, such as Christmas tree decorating, watching movies with a cup of hot chocolate, shopping for Christmas decorations, taking walks to and from the village. it was a very peaceful and calm setting, which immediately put me in the holiday spirit.

it did seem unrealistic to me that Penny wasted 10 years of her life on someone who was not interested in the same family aspirations as her - these are things that should be cleared up pretty early on in a relationship.

all in all, it was a really enjoyable Christmas story!

What a lovely book to read as my first ARC.

The story centres around Penny, a primary school teacher who is in the midst of a crisis following being dumped by her partner of ten years. It’s a sweet, enjoyable Christmas story that kept me engaged throughout. The characters are all very loveable and the final chapter tied everything up in a lovely neat bow.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this book to anyone who loves a romance book with a bit of Christmas cheer!

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for allowing me to read this advanced copy before publication.

Christmas with the Lords by Hannah Langdon is a delightful holiday read that warms the heart and delivers the perfect dose of Christmas magic. The story follows Penny Windlesham, who, in the midst of a broken heart, embarks on an unexpected adventure as a nanny for the Lord family. What ensues is a charming and heartwarming tale of love, family, and the true spirit of Christmas. It's a story that reminds us of the magic of Christmas and the power of love to heal old wounds. Whether you're looking for a festive read to curl up with by the fire or a heartwarming escape from the everyday, this book is a perfect choice!

Was trying to get some more christmas spirit books and while it did have that the characters were a little flat. I felt that the MC’s had almost no chemistry and it was very light on the romance. I also felt that the FMC was a little over the place, like lets be honest whos gonna wait that long in a relationship without marriage? or even like talking of marriage. Just seemed a bit unrealistic for me.

I absolutely adored this book! It exuded such a delightful, heartwarming Christmas charm that it left me yearning to don a cozy, festive sweater and fully immerse myself in the holiday spirit.

Penny Windlesham is stunned when her long-term boyfriend suddenly dumps her, leaving her with a broken heart just in time for Christmas. At a loose end, she accepts a job as a short-term nanny to a family she’s never met. Climbing aboard a train bound for the Dorset countryside, a tear rolls down her cheek. Alone, working and amongst strangers… could her Christmas be any less magical?

My 2 little quibbles:
1. Penny is a lovely character, but she does have a bit of low self-esteem - i hate that we always have to rely on the male character to see her beauty - like lady, why dont you like yourself enough to see your own beauty?

2. Lando and Penny could have had a BIT more chemistry. It was very closed door and very little heat.

Other than that, a very lovely book and one i would read again.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC. All views are my own.

Christmas with the Lords was presented to be a fun Christmas romance with quirky characters and heartwarming story that would leave me full and content with the story.
Penny and Lando did not click for me to really care much what happened between them. I was hoping for there to be sparks and a small bit of romance that would put a smile on my face as I was reading but for me it just never happened.
Thank you NetGalley, Hannah Langdon and Storm Publishing for the ARC of Christmas with the Lords. This is my personal review.

I so wanted to love this; the blurb sounded like I was in for a delightful Christmas themed romance with a dash of madcap fun.

Sadly, it failed to deliver.

The FMC, Penny, was a pushover, waiting ten years for her boyfriend to decide if he wanted to marry her or not, and then acting surprised when he dumps her.

The MMC, Lando, has an ex who is so one dimensional she doesn’t seem real.

When Penny takes a job as a nanny over Christmas, working for Lando’s family, their selfishness helps her to find herself.

This is supposed to be a romance, but personally I found the chemistry between Penny and Lando to be non-existent.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

Firstly I would love to say thank you so much for allowing me the privilege to review this book!

Okay I have to get the negative out of the way first before I get into the rest it's the only reason i've given it 4 stars. When I first started reading the book I was immediately confused because of how it starts (not trying to give anything away yet) based on the books description, I believe the flashbacking part would have been better suited to start the chapter out and than said something along the lines of, "now that's how I found my self... (Not wanting to spoil) and moved the beginning couple of pages here. It would have flown much more nicely, that and the characters whom I did fall in love with, did seem very enthusiastic 90% of the time, and the book seemed to lean heavily into out of the box words taken from a thesaurus it seemed rather than what would have seemed as more common place actions or wording would have to be my negatives that got a little on my nerves.

However I have never once read a book that has ever screamed at me this needs to be a movie! Big budget blockbuster, hallmark or Netflix, I don't mind. This is the feel good, empowering stuff that makes Christmas magical and this author honestly needs a movie deal. I have been nitpicky over little things but when you go through the book and story you root for these characters, you picture it all (which this author is great at describing without constantly shoving it down your throat which I love!!) And I would honestly love to bring home a copy of this book and reread it every year. This is Christmas and Christmas magic and what matters the most all year round. The author made me want to be a part of this eclectic family and I love it. This book though really really needs to be picked up for a movie deal, I want to read it and watch it and keep falling in love with this family and these characters all over again. I really hope to see Penny again should this author chose because I need more of her and her new life.

Thank you so much for bringing a little early Christmas joy and love to my life with my early access through NetGalley!

An enjoyable Christmas novel about a teacher looking to escape her life over Christmas gets a holiday job looking after twins for a hands off mum and ultimately the somewhat selfish family have such an influence on the heroine’s journey to finding herself .

I found the heroine’s 10 year relationship to be really frustrating and annoying, she needed to grow a back bone, It didn’t show hero in a good light. Similarly the hero’s awful ex was so one dimensional as to be impossible to believe in. The chemistry between the hero & heroine seemed to be lacking, there were no looks, or touches, or gestures that gave me butterflies. I just wasn’t feeling it.

Thank to NetGalley and Storm publishing for allowing me access to an ARC copy. All opinions are my own

This was a lovely festive, small town, grumpy/sunshine romance. A really cosy read to begin the festive season for me (which always starts straight after Halloween!) 😂

I really enjoyed this book and the characters, I loved them all. A perfect, Christmas read.

Entertains, well crafted cosy read.?Sometimes I just want an easy read that I know is going to be fun. Doesn’t matter if I know the basic story line going in. This book is just that, heartwarming and fun, and the Christmas filling of family life, strife and love is the perfect filling. Nice to spend some time in the pages of this book. Thank you to Storm publishing for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

I enjoyed reading this book, but I definitely would not tell anyone interested in reading this to expect something groundbreaking. There's something comforting about reading a book where nothing is unexpected, but it definitely depends on the person. The characters are all pretty interesting and multifaceted, barring perhaps the main antagonist who shows up for the second half. Definitely a nice, cozy read for the holidays.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley but this review was posted of my own volition!

What can I say, A thoroughly beautiful heartwarming Christmas story. This book is full of hot chocolates, champagne, festive films and romance thrown in for good measure!
Penny or Pixie as she's nicknamed goes to the Lords to help look after twins. She is soon enveloped into their home and lives. I was rooting for a happy ending and a happy ending I got.
Left me feeling all gooey inside!
I'd love a sequel pretty please.

This is a 4 Star read for me

Oh how I love the festive season and what better way to get into the cosy, Christmassy season then to curl up and dive into this debut novel by Hannah Langdon “Christmas with The Lords”.

Penny is cruelly dumped by her boyfriend of 10 years just before the festive season, when you live a very “sensible” life what is a girl to do? Penny embarks on a holiday spent taking care of four- year- old twins in a small town for their eccentric mother. Shortly after she arrives, she meets the twins Uncle Lando, handsome, grumpy, troubled man who spends his days whittling away in his studio. But he hasn’t always been this, he to has a past that haunts him.
Loved:
The family is what I loved, I loved how they interacted, loved their dynamics, and the overall festive vibes. The children, grandfather, uncle, mother, cook, and even the dogs just pulled at my heart and I felt like I know each one of them.
If you want
-Festive vibes, slow burning, friends-to-lovers, Grumpy/sunshine, small town romance, Christmas grant country house, this is the book for you. This great book comes out NOVEMBER 9Th 2023
I was left wanting to spend more time with Penny and The Lords. This was the perfect first Christmassy book to start the festive season with!

Kind of cute but not great. The twins were adorable. Penny was a bit too doormat for me, she seemed clueless. The character names were hard to swallow, seemed like a farce. Lando especially with his rude grumpy attitude.

This story is about family dynamics, with charming twins, a struggling Bunny, a love-struck Grandfather, William, a mischievous Uncle Xander, and a powerhouse cook named Pilar. Despite their past, Penny and Lando are open to new love, making for a delightful, mature, slow-burn romance with plenty of quaint holiday fun. It's a perfect read for the Christmas season!
