Newly single just before Christmas, Penny takes a job as a nanny over Christmas. She is not expecting to meet someone while she is there, but what will happen when it is time to return to real life? Great festive read.
I loved this grumpy/sunshine cozy read. This book was really lovely! Christmas with the Lords is a great read to start this holiday season. All the characters were very well written and easy to read.
This book was really a slow start, and the FMC seems lost and like she doesn't have a sense of self. I find that to be theme throughout the book, and it seems weird and forced at times. I don't think Penny actually meets Lando well into the book, but her thoughts and speculation about a man she hasn't met seem to be extreme.
Once Lando is in the picture, I find him to be bland and a lack of true depth. The whole book felt really removed for me. This could have been such a good story, but execution was really off for me.
Thanks to @netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an E-ARC of Christmas with the Lord's in exchange for an unbiased review. This book had a lovely setting, but I felt it started a bit slow for my taste.
I loved this book, it's exactly what you look for in a festive, cosy read!
Penny takes up a position as a nanny for young twins at the Lords during the Christmas season. As soon as she arrives at the huge house, we can see that there are a LOT of eccentric characters inside. Of course, when she meets Lando - the grumpy brother-in-law - we know right away, in true rom-com style that he will soon be far from grumpy with her...
What I loved about this story was it encompassed everything Christmas should - family, finding events which revolve around the children, helping others out, being creative, yummy food and baking...
Yes this book is predictable but I honestly don't think that this matters because it adds to this story being such a lovely, light read - exactly what you need at Christmas. The characters were also very well crafted too so I genuinely felt like I knew (and liked!) them, which really shows just how talented the author is at bringing characters to life.
This is a fantastic festive read, I will definitely be looking up more from this author in future.
"Don't you think there's room in all of our lives for a little magic?"
Synopsis: It's Christmas time and Penny's long-term boyfriend has left her right when she's ready to settle down and start a family. Unsure what steps to take next, she decides to take a leap of faith and blindly takes a nanny position with a family she's never met. Despite the unknown, she falls in love with the quirky family and can't seem to escape the downtrodden uncle as the house she's staying in belongs to him. But there has to be something to explain the negativity he exudes. Can she figure it out in time to encourage joviality and calm in a potential friendship? Or is it even worth it?
My reflection: This book was cute! I can picture myself in the small England countryside with this adorable, amusing, loveable family. It reminded me of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches with the found family aspect. Penny has a close, individual relationship with each family member. I loved that as it allowed the reader a detailed introduction to each. Bunny, the fun-loving, kind mother of two befriends Penny, and their relationship blossoms. This gives Penny the confidence and courage to do the things she's always wanted to do.
My favorite parts were the family members. They all had adorable, different personalities, and they blended into a fun family. Silliness, humor, kindness, unconventional, and quirkiness abound.
While I found certain parts of the narrative repetitive, I did enjoy this book and would recommend it as a sweet, holiday read!
*Found family
*Enemies to friends to lovers
*Small town holiday
*Humor
*Warm & cozy
*No trigger warnings
*Gentle/closed-door spice

I was really hoping to like this one as the premise sounded fun and the cover is absolutely gorgeous, however the writing style was unfortunately not for me. With the right reader, however, I believe there's many out there who are going to absolutely adore this one!

I wanted to love this so much! I love a good, cozy, slightly cheesy, holiday romance.
Sadly this book did not work for me in any way. I didn't like the characters, the romance or the writing.
Wonderful, feel good novel. Perfect to read on cosy evenings by the fire.
Such a lovely family that you wish you could be a part of.
This is a cute Christmas story. It’s also clean, so readers who like romance, but don’t necessarily like graphic scenes. Will appreciate how this was written.
I really enjoyed this book a lot. This is an amazing Christmas romance about growth, realising your own worth and finding your own happiness. It was slow burn, low on spice and really cute and emotional.
It had just the right amount of Christmas to get me in the festive mood, while reading and I would love to see this as a Christmas movie. I think I would be the perfect cozy Christmas movie.
My only complain was that sometimes I felt like the pacing was a bit too slow in some moments, but most of the time I really liked the pacing. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a deep, but fluffy Christmas romance this year.
A beautiful tale of finding your own happiness. This is my first Hannah Langdon book and I think that the beautifully written and emotional read won't be the last of hers. The characters grow throughout the book from unique and flawed to deep and emotional. I must say that the flamboyant yet well meaning Bunny was my favourite.
It's just the type of read that I need for this time of year. Filled with family, Christmas spirit and happily ever afters.

This was a very enjoyable read! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. All the characters were well developed and the descriptions of the romantic interest were vague enough to make them attractive but leave space to the imagination. You will fall in love with the whole family, they are all exuberant, crazy and caring and the ‘villain’ is also well portrayed. The only reason I am knocking a star off is cos the Spanish used was on occasion very dubious (I am bilingual Spanish and English) as the stewing in their own sauce translation was not only not an expression that is commonly used in Spain and the translation does not actually use a Spanish word, other than that a delightful Xmas romance!
I wanted to love this book so much, it seemed like the perfect cozy Christmas read but I just could not get into it. I forced myself to finish but it was painful! I couldn’t connect with any of the characters, the whole premise was weird, the majority of the book (95%) was fluff and we see a little romance only at the very end, yet the romance we did get did not satisfy at all. It was way too slow for me, but I think those that enjoy hallmark Christmas movies may enjoy this read. 2⭐️
Thank you for providing me with an advanced reader’s copy of this title via NetGalley.
The perfect start to the Christmas season - Penny needs to escape her real life for a while so agrees to help look after some children through the holidays - insert the hilarious family and all of their quirks. This was a lovely romance, very low on spice, but it was such a cute read that it was perfect.
This was fantastic. I loved the story, the family, everything. It reminded me a bit of Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pitcher, one of my favorites. I can't wait to read it again.
Just in time for the Holidays.
This book is fun and sweet. I loved the mishap adventures of the young twins in a household of adults with quirks of their own.
This is a book you can enjoy with Cocoa and a Cupcake and totally enjoy...
I thought this was a cute Christmasy story, if you’re looking for a very light romance!
This was definitely the definition of a slow burn - you see where it’s going the entire time, but it takes the MCs until just about the end of the book to get there. There’s also a lack of spice, which is fine but may leave some wanting more!
The core group of characters are very endearing and fairly well fleshed out, while occasional side characters may be a tad confusing and hard to follow. You find yourself rooting along for the FMC as she navigates her post-breakup reality, and following along with her antics.
The narrative touches on mental health themes but could delve deeper.
Overall, this holiday tale strikes a delightful balance between romance and lighthearted charm, making it an ideal choice for a cozy seasonal read.
A Nanny running from heartbreak and a terrible relationship, a couple of cute kids, a distracted mum and a dark, brooding, handsome loner...all the ingredients for a great romantic novel, perhaps with no surprises but who wants surprises when they settle down for a Christmassy romance?!
I loved The Lords. What an entertaining family, probably one of my favourite families I've read about in ages. There is so much fun and antics going on, and we get to view it all through the eyes of Penny.
Penny who has agreed to be a Mother's help to Bunny, for her 4 year old twins in Dorset this Christmas, and is a complete stranger to them. She is after an escape and adventure after her boyfriend of 10 years leaves.
And via Penny we are introduced to one of the best assortments of characters I've seen in forever. I just loved them all, and the twins are adorable. Oh and there are some equally cute four legged friends too. There are so many smaller sub plots going on, and I found it fairly simple to follow everything, once I worked out who was who.
I felt at home almost instantly in this book, and just had a real feel good vibe coming from the pages. There are many Christmassy activities, unexpected guests, some romance, and a whole lot more.
The Lords are certainly a family you will want to spend Christmas with this year! And Hannah Langdon is definitely an author I will be looking out for more books from, on the basis of how much I enjoyed this one.
Thank you to Storm Publishing and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
