This was such a fun book to read! I really enjoyed and felt like I connected with the characters. I would definitely recommend this book.
Christmas with the Lords by Hannah Langdon is a delightful rom-com filled with zany characters that will have you falling in love with them. Two main characters that have been burned by love and vow not to ever experience that again are thrown together. Will they stay so wounded that they stick to their resolutions, or will they risk it all on a chance to have all they ever wanted?
Mental illness (emotional breakdown) is handled with the utmost care and sensitivity.
I was provided a copy for my review, but all opinions are my own.
This started out super cute and then it started dragging so bad. I had to skim a lot.
First off, a love interest named Lando? No thanks. Please just call him Orlando. 🙄 Secondly, he was such a two dimensional character. I love grumpy/moody guys in my rom-coms. This guy was just blah. There was no chemistry between him and the FMC so it made it super unbelievable. The guy is barely even around for the first 30% of the book. It's really just Penny asking and finding out about him.
I liked Penny even though she seems like such a pushover. She just seemed really great with the kids and I liked how they accepted her into the family on day one.
Would I recommend this book to people? I don't even know. It was just a very meh book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for an ARC. All opinions are mine and mine alone. :)
What a great holiday read! Ever since the temperature dropped, I've been in a Christmas mood! This book has quirky characters, a fun plot line, and checks all my boxes for a Christmas romance. I will be adding this to our order list at the bookstore I work at.
Three and a half stars.
After her boyfriend of ten years dumps her on 1 December, because he doesn't want her to get her hopes up for a Christmas proposal again, Penny decides she is going to do something radical with her life, as part of which she agrees to be a 'mother's helper' to Bunny Lord over the Christmas holidays at her brother-in-law's house in Devon while her husband Ben is stuck in town on business.
On arrival, Penny is met by said BiL, Lando, who turns out to be a very grumpy, antisocial carpenter who apparently hosts his entire family for Christmas on sufferance. Meanwhile, Bunny turns out to be an slightly ineffectual artist on commission deadline with two very precocious four-year old twins (I think two was redundant in that sentence). Add in Bunny's suave (some might say sleazy) brother Anders, Lando's charming if somewhat ouche father William, and Pilar the Spanish chef and there's a lot of people.
As Penny develops a bond with the twins, and friendship with Pilar and Bunny, she discovers that Lando was once a fun-loving, high-flyer in the City but suffered a breakdown, lost his high-maintenance girlfriend and chose to move to Devon and carve instead.
Despite his grumpiness Penny and Lando develop a sort of bond, but with his plans to relocate to Greece and hers to move to India to be with her parents is there any kind of future? Throw in both their exs and this could be a Christmas to remember.
This was a charming, funny, idealised Christmas romance. I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I question Lando's comment that he wakes up really early when the sunshine comes through his studio windows (when its December). In fact I have google-checked it and sunrise on 23 December 2023 will be 08:05 in the UK - hardly earth-shatteringly early.
I was invited to read this book by the publisher Storm for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the early release copy of Christmas with the Lords by Hannah Langdon! This was a quick and fun Christmas read and I highly recommend it. A feel good story…sometimes what you want isn’t really what you want…. When you are offered what you think you’ve always wanted you realize there’s so much more to life.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for providing an eARC!
Unfortunately, I DNF at 10%. I just couldn’t get into it, even though I tried my best. I think the dialogue just didn’t resonate with me, and I couldn’t get past what felt jumbled and a bit over the top and hard to keep up with. It just wasn’t believable to me, and I felt it hard to connect with and invest in. I’m positive that this is someone’s perfect Hallmark Christmas cup of tea, but it just wasn’t for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
3.5 Stars!
This was a quick fun read for me. I really enjoyed getting to know the family as they were quirky and really relatable. I did feel as though there was something missing in this story. It was a romance story, but the chemistry felt forced or not even there in some scenes. The two ex's being involved dimmed the story for me. She waited way too long for her ex to make up his mind, and that put fault in her character for me.
I still enjoyed this story; it just wasn't one I would want to revisit.
This is such a cosy, heartwarming read which was perfect to get me into the Christmas spirit.
After Penny is dumped by her 10 year long boyfriend she takes a job taking care of four year old twins in a small town. The whole family is there over the festive period including the children’s Uncle Lando who spends his days working in his studio after a breakdown. Both penny and Lando are looking to leave country after Christmas in search of new adventures but both know this isn’t want they really want.
Each character of this book are different and we find out so much about each of their lives. The twins are such a main part of this book, helping to keep everyone in their toes and in the Christmas spirit. Their family life is so fast paced and hectic it made me want to be apart of it all. I didn’t want to put the story down and could wait to find out how it all turned out in the end.
Thankyou to storm publishing, the author and Net galley for an arc of this wonderful book.
An absolutely adorable and heartwarming Christmas tale. The story is chaos in the absolute best way. It is full of laughter, fun and love. Such a great read to start off the Christmas season.
Christmas with the Lords is a sweet sunshine meets grumpy story. It has all the charm and of a Hallmark movie with the cozy, Christmas vibes! Very slow burn between the MMC and FMC that leads to a super sweet ending. I would recommend if you’re looking for books to add to your holiday TBR list!
What a great feel good Christmas story. Penny has an opportunity to start a new life after the last 10 years she feels has been wasted in anticipation of marriage and children. Then she finds a job looking after twins for the holidays. This is where she meets the Lords. Her life then has a mixture of ups and downs with the past coming back to confuse her. It is a lovely Christmas romance novel. I could not put the book down. And I cannot wait to read the next book.
This was such a sweet story. It focuses a lot on family and has a lot of dynamics with other members of Bunny's family. The twins are delightful, Bunny is having troubles of her own, grandfather William has seen a spark with another local, Uncle Xander is a menace and the cook, Pilar, is a force of her own.
A sweet and cosy read . Penny after her boyfriend of 10 years broke up with her just before Christmas she decide to change her life . She is elementary teacher and the two weeks before Christmas she will be spenting it as a mother's help at Dorset mansion at the Lords takings care of two 4 years twins . When she arrives she meets their mother Bunny , William their grandfather ,the chef Pilar and finally their handsome but silent uncle Lando . While she is helping with the twins she realises that she really care for the family and especially for Lando . Will she be brave enough to get what she deserve ?
s she has I received this book from netgalley and the publicer as an ARC . Thank you . All thoughts and opinions are my own .
Thanks for the ARC, Netgalley and Storm Publishing! This is a fun and cute little Christmas read- a hallmark movie in book form. I really liked the cozy vibes and the cute kiddos! My only feedback would be the struggle of the main characters to get together felt a bit annoying at times. Overall though- a cute story!
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook.
What a lovely cover. This was such a cute Christmas novel. It is completely full of Christmas! I have been really disappointed with this year's Christmas novels. There is hardly any Christmas in them at all! You actually forget that Christmas is going on until they mention that it will be Christmas day in a few days.
So I was very happy to read about seeing Santa, winter wonderland, christ.as Carol at the local theater, decorating the tree, watching Christmas movies etc. The story is very cut and a good rom com. I love how quirky the family is and how nice they actually are to the main female character. I would love to listen to this book on an audiobook. Highly recommend
I enjoyed this festive funny book. A quick, easy read and it put me in a festive mood. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
I want to first thank everyone for the opportunity to read the ARC of this book. It was a sweet christmas rom-com and perfect for getting you into the Holiday spirit!
This is such a cute little Christmas romcom! I loved Penny’s character, and the children were precious! The only characters I disliked were the horrible exes (but were supposed to hate them so it’s fine lol). It felt like reading a Hallmark movie, and the epilogue was so sweet 🥹 I’m shocked this is a debut; the writing and plot were so good! And it also deals with more serious themes, like heartbreak, depression, and other mental health issues in such a constructive way. An amazing debut from Hannah Langdon, and I’ll definitely be reading her next book!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the opportunity to read before pub day! Christmas With the Lords is out now!
When I first read the blurb for this book i just knew i had to read it, it just sounded so cosy and Christmassy and the perfect festive read!
It is billed as a heartwarming and feel-good holiday story full of christmas magic and this suits it perfectly!!
As soon as I began reading this book i became involved in the most wonderful cast of characters and i really enjoyed becoming immersed in their lives.
