My Daughter's Husband
Daniel Hurst
🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is the second book in this duology following straight on from My Daughter's Boyfriend which I read and reviewed earlier this year....and loved!
When I spotted this sequel was being published, I just had to get hold of it and read what happened next for Ellie and her Mum after the events of the first book.
I'm going to try and write this review so that there are no spoilers for either book - but it will be tricky as the events do relate and do continue roughly from where we left the pair in book 1 - I would definitely recommend that you read these in order.
So, moving on with their lives after the previous events and trauma, Ellie has found the man of her dreams and is getting married.
As Ellie and Kyle begin their new life together, things are looking rosy.
When her Mum visits and spots some post in someone else's name, she feels that familiar tingle down her spine and can't help but wonder what Kyle is hiding.
As she investigates, she discovers more than she bargained for and then their past comes back to haunt them too.
This really gets going straight away and as it moves on seamlessly from book 1 it was really easy to get back into the flow of Ellie and her Mum's lives.
The new characters add a bit of extra interest for us and as expected, the title being a slight hint, I instantly disliked Kyle and was just waiting to see what he was going to do wrong.
I loved the premise of this, but did find myself thinking it a little implausible that this would happen straight after the events of book 1 - but actually this worked well and as it wasn't the whole focus of the plotline, it was easy to let it slide. Especially with Ellie being as ditsy as she is.
Having said this, her development in this book was great!
This was full of action throughout and I spent the whole book on the edge of my seat. I raced through this in one sitting, listening late into the night!!
I loved the action at the end and the outcome - totally sounding as though it was being set up for a book 3 - I did wonder how that was going to go - then came the big twist in the epilogue - absolutely brilliant!!
I'm totally hooked on Dan's books! I can't believe how quickly he writes them ....but I'm doing a good job of trying to catch up 🤣 - this is my fourth read of this year!!
And Mr Hurst - that is not a challenge!!😳
💕Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC copy - this is my honest review 💕

My Daughter's Husband by Daniel Hurst
My Daughter's Boyfriend #2
Narrated by Harrie Dobby, Adam Sims, Tamsin Kennard
Five years after Dawn and Ellie's disastrous mess with Ellie's fiancé, it looks like they've moved on and gained a few common sense brain cells. At the start of the story I thought all the popcorn I'd popped to throw at my brain's screen, as I listened to this audiobook, was going to have to be eaten by me. I'm feeling proud of Dawn and Ellie, staying out of trouble and all, for five years.
Ellie, even though she hates every minute of it, is working at an admin job, saving money, and marrying her new beau, a wealthy young man who runs his own business. Dawn could not be prouder and the wedding is in Turkey. Life could not be better considering where they were five years ago.
But wait, maybe new hubby isn't all he's cracked up to be! Ellie begins to have suspicions, Dawn begins to have suspicions. But of course, withholding info from each other is the way they go. These two, give them two choices and they will always pick the wrong and dumbest one. Looks like I won't be eating all this popcorn, after all.
But they have another problem brewing, too. Harvey, father of the former fiancé is getting out of prison. He's had five years to stew about these two and he has plans for them that will make no one but him happy. How will these two problems intermingle?
Okay, not only did I throw all my popcorn but my throat is hoarse from screaming at them, "don't do it"! Time after time, dumb things get done and even Dawn thinks her daughter is dumb with her antics and that gave me a good laugh. Pot calling kettle black there. Although I do think Ellie drags Dawn down to a dumber level. Mostly I like Dawn except that she goes nutty where her daughter is concerned. Fun times again here, can't take things seriously so I just enjoyed all the wacko people doing their wacko things.
The narration is great, the voices of Dawn and Ellie really fit them and Harvey's narrator sounds like a cool, calculating menace.
Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for this ARC.

Overall, my favorite Daniel Hurst book to date. It was fast paced and an easy read. I had not read the prequel but it did not seem to impact my ability to jump right into this book! I loved the surprise ending too :)

Based on reading many of the reviews of this book, I was allowed to listen to an ARC audiobook, thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio. When I finished it, (which was not easy, it is that bad), I went back to read the reviews again and wondered if I had read the same book. With so many good books available, how can one waste time on such silliness? The best part of this audiobook is the narrators who, in spite of having to read nonsensical lines, are excellent. I thought about not finishing but I try to finish every book that I'm graciously allowed to listen to or read and give it every possible fair chance.
I don't know what else to say. I realize that there are people who can put reality aside to read or listen to this kind of book but I don't know any of them. So I just advise reading all the reviews and deciding for yourself if you want to read it. I think it might be equivalent to watching a bad made-for-TV movie that still compels you to finish it.

I listened to the audio book of My Daughter’s Husband. I haven’t read the first book in the series, My Daughter’s Boyfriend, but I had no trouble following the storyline and feel it can be read as a stand-alone book. The past events were covered enough to give background, but not too much that it would be off-putting for anyone who has already read book one.
There are 3 POVs and each was narrated perfectly. I enjoyed this story and listened at every opportunity. It was an easy read, not too heavy, not terribly thought provoking, but it was fast paced, had the right amount of suspense, and had some twists and turns along the way - it was exactly what I was looking for at the time. I would have loved to have a fourth POV to be honest, I think it would have been great to get to know Kyle as well. I’m hoping there’s going to be a third book in this series - I can’t wait to see where Dawn and Ellie’s story takes them next!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author for an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

Omg what a thrill of a read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Twisty and full of suspence. I was on the edge of my seat. Gripped from start to finish. Listened to in one sitting. Couldn't put it down. Definitely recommend. 5*

Wowza!!!! The follow up to My Daughter’s Boyfriend and this one knocked my socks off from the Prologue! Never underestimate the power of a mothers love.
The 3 narrators were so terrific!

Really enjoyed this one. Another great thriller from this author. These are the kind of books that make you question who you should really trust. Can you trust even the closest ones to you?

Welcome to the universe of murphy’s law. In this book everything will go terrible wrong, so you’re in for a rollercoaster ride.
This is the second book in a series (which I didn’t know), but what happened with the daughter and her mum was thoroughly described, so I didn’t feel confused and the book can definitely be read as a stand-alone. In my daughters husband Ellie marries Kyle and Ellie’s mother is happy Ellie finally has found a good man. Then her mother makes a discovery that make her rethink everything.
This story is definitely fast-paced. In his trademark-styles, he slices away unnecessary details and jumpers right into the action. It’s an easy read where you don’t have to think too much. I must confess to being annoyed by both Ellie and her mother for their nativity considering what they had experienced. But I let it go, because it heightened the anxiety and frustration I felt.
The last part of the book was really intense, I love how the speeding car this story was, suddenly closed in on a wall and you didn’t know if it would crash or not.
There was a lot to enjoy in this book, if you don’t mind some naive and impulsive choices along the way.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc

I hadn't read the first book but coming into this as a new reader / listener, I really enjoyed the twists and turns and these kept me hooked.

For those of you who have read My Daughter's Boyfriend by Daniel Hurst, this is a great continuation to the series. Five years have passed since My Daughter's Boyfriend and Harvey is out for revenge. This book is fast paced and an easy binge read. I enjoyed this one even more than the first book! A recommended read for anyone looking for a gripping thriller filled with twists and turns!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book.

Sigh. I appear to be in the minority here, but I didn't love My Daughter's Husband. It was ok. I listened. I never considered DNFing, but there was no wow, and I'm starting to resent male author's who write really gullible, stupid female characters. Repeatedly.
This is book 2 in a series, and the first one, My Daughter' Boyfriend was good. I actually did enjoy that one, with the travel to the US, the surprise twist, all of it. Sadly, just because the premise sells in a first book does not mean it should continue to a second. This one could be read without the first because their was so much repetition telling us all the major plot points (without the wow) of book 1. A lot. I don't know how long this book really would have been without the refresher of what happened before.
Again, daughter Ellie comes off as really not bright. Foolish, in fact. Moms, can we all agree that education is important? Lets talk up books and critical thinking over swanky clothes and boyfriends.
There were twists. Yes, Hurst knows how to twist a plot, but the ending had me rolling my eyes.
If there is a 3, will I read it? Yes, because I too can be foolish.

I was unaware that this book was a sequel, so I listened to the audiobook from NetGalley as a standalone, and the author does a great job filling in gaps and background information, so I was not confused about anything that happened in the first book. At first I didn't like how you automatically get told that something is going to happen to Kyle (the new husband), but then as the plot goes on, it makes sense as to why we are told early. I really enjoyed the multiple POVs. This book kept me on my toes the entire time, but I felt like there was too much going on at times with basically almost like a double plot happening, but it all ended up connecting well. It was quick read, because I kept wanting to know what happened next. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this audio ARC.

I couldn't wait to rejoin Dawn and Ellie in this sequel. As with ever Daniel hurst audio the narrators are like an old friend returning with familiarity and purpose. The audiobstream is of high quality and the narration takes you inside the minds of the key characters the interwoven pov format hooks you in. Its a fairly quick listen which I demolished in a day. I didnt want to stop. The story was actioned packed. I loved the fact that you could just read this as a stand alone story as there is a full recap at the beginning . I enjoyed every second and i was sad when i finished. I cant recommended this enough a 5 star listen.
Thank you so much netgallery and publisher and author and narrators.

Absolutely loved!!!! I didn't think the second could be any better then the first but it was! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time with the constant twists and turns! The ending through me for a loop!

My Daughterś Husband by Daniel Hurst is the sequel to My Daughterś boyfriend which was released in June. This story takes place five years after the first book.
Ellie marries Kyle and her mother Dawn is so happy that Ellie seems to have finally found her happiness. It is not long before Dawn has misgivings about Kyle and when she finds a note, she knows he is not who he says he is and he is hiding things. Dawn is determined to find out the truth. What secrets is Kyle hiding and what lengths will Dawn go to to find out?
Full of suspense and twists, this was a great story and it left me wanting more of Dawn and Ellie. I am hoping there are more stories of this mother/daughter duo to follow. I listened to this on audio and the narrators were great!
Thank you to Bookouture Audio, NetGalley, and Daniel Hurst for the Audio ARC!

🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 (4.5/5)
Another awesome Daniel Hurst book.
This book is the follow up to my daughters boyfriend where we follow Ellie and Dawn after Harvey gets locked up.
Things are looking up for the mother-daughter duo, but not for long.
Harvey gets out of jail and seeking revenge.
But unbeknownst to Ellie she’s got some other problems to deal with.
Dawn protects her daughter fearlessly and unapologetically.
I gotta say both of the main characters got on my nerves, but I still liked them at the same time. Not sure what that’s about but I’m excited to see what Daniel Hurst comes up with next.
He is an auto buy author for me. And continues to keep me entertained with page, turning domestic thrillers.

My Daughter's Husband
Author: Daniel Hurst

Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.
My Rating: 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A mother’s love knows no bounds when it comes to protecting her child from harm. With a full cast of narrators and brilliant writing, I was hooked from the very beginning. Hurst’s “My Daughter’s Husband” is a fast-paced thriller and I’ll be reading more of his books!

I may have said this before but I am going to say it again, this is my new favorite book by Daniel Hurst. This is a sequel to My Daughter’s Boyfriend but this will work well as a stand-alone. However, I recommend reading My Daughter’s Boyfriend first.
The events of the first book are recapped well enough. You know that Ellie was saved by her mother Dawn from her boyfriend who tried to kill her. Dawn ends up saving Ellie but killing Ellie's boyfriend in the process. This story takes place 5 years later when her boyfriend’s father Harvey is out of prison and out for revenge.
The revenge plot was not the only thing going on. Ellie has moved on and just got married. unfortunately for Ellie, who just can not catch a break, she married a con artist who is just scamming her. Dawn finds out the truth but Harvey also finds his way to England and the two plot points collide in a perfect way.
I could not put this one down and I highly recommend it.

Only after finishing this one I realised this was the follow up to ‘My Daughters Boyfriend’. It can definitely be read as a standalone and didn’t feel I was missing out not reading the first book. It’s a quick, easy listen that moves at a steady pace. For me it lacked the eagerness to turn the pages as it felt a little predictable. I found the storyline to be like it only touched the surface and could have given the listener more. The characters were likeable enough but like the storyline I didn’t feel I really got to know them but that could also be due to the fact I didn’t read the first instalment. It was an ok listen but maybe start from the with My Daughters Boyfriend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review #MyDaughtersHusband
