Another great read from this Author he always seems to write the most brilliant books.
This book would put you off of downloading apps.
This book was a wild, thrilling ride from start to finish.

Although being listed under romance, I didn’t see it as a romance, which I found disappointing as I was looking forward to that side of the story. However I really enjoyed the thriller/suspense side of the book and I was fully hooked on the story.

A plot full of twists and deliciously dark turns. In this day and age, it certainly makes you think about what apps you download. A great thriller.

I love this author. Looking forward to reading more from him.
I loved the first half of the book but the second half got a little confusing for me (im easily confused).

I picked this up as it was under the romance category, and I thought it seemed really interesting. I would say it isn't really a romance, there's relationships in it but its mainly a suspense/thriller. However, I did actually really enjoy it. The twists and turns made for a suspense filled story! I couldn't actually guess where it was going most of the time, and it kept things fascinating.
I found the authors writing enthralling and easy flowing, the characters were good but there was something missing for me and I'm not sure what that was. I just didn't feel connected to the characters as much as I wanted to. Whilst I could relate to the concept and some of the ideas, I didn't so much with the characters and their emotions.
It was a wild ride throughout the book, and I just wanted to feel it with them!
But honestly I would recommend this read to others, and I already have done to some friends!
Thank you for the ARC provided by Net Galley

What a story! This book was compared to 50 shades meets the game. I’ve seen both & in my opinion it definitely gave me more Black Mirror vibes the entire time because of the whole technology aspect & yes the game as well. I loved this book from the first page to the very last. It had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. Would they get caught doing their spice? Would they decide not to do it? Well that happened & everything blew up around them. It was such a wild ride I’m still processing everything. I loved the whole Romeo & Juliet ending (even though they irked me during the book) but their ending was very poetic to me. I had a feeling about Kim.. I really did. My gut is usually right. All in all, this was fantastically written and a must read!

This book starts with such a punch. A married couple, going through life, and becoming a bit distanced from each other, so they start therapy. Their therapist jumps right in, addressing their issues and giving them an assignment to download the new Sugar & Spice app. This app promises to liven up your sex life, personal life and realign your goals with your partners. What could possibly go wrong?
As Abby and Brendan work on their relationship, the app keeps directing them to more and more risqué topics and actions. Soon both of their workplaces are affected, which is no coincidence. The app seems to know all and be everywhere all at once.
The first 40% of the book is a five star, quick read. You won't be able to put it down. However the next 20% drags quite a bit, and you will have time to put it down and pay attention to your family again. The ending picks up and left me with a satisfied ending. I'm averaging to four stars.
This book is not for everyone. If you do not want to read a steamy book, or a book that crosses many lines of sexual assault, then it's not for you.

I always enjoy reading J.D. Barker’s books and I was delighted to be sent a copy of his new book Behind A Closed Door.
Brendan and Abby download an app called Sugar & Spice onto their phones an attempt to spice up their marriage and make their relationship closer.
At first things were exciting and fun but then they were instructed to do more tasks that were risky and dangerous.
A rollercoaster ride with plenty of action and lots of twists.
This story is to be a major motion picture soon and I can’t wait to see it.
Thank you to J.D. Barker and NetGalley for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Another engaging and original thriller by J.D Barker!
It's starts off as a domestic tale, then some 50 Shades before turning into a Black Mirror techno-thriller. The character development throughout is strong and with enough twists and turns to keep you reading way past your bedtime. Fans of Barker's 4MK series won't be disappointed!

Abby and Brendan Hollander have trouble in their marriage so they seek help from a marriage counselor. There sex life has stalled due to a slight indiscretion on Brendan's part. The therapist suggests a popular app for their phones called Sugar and Spice. They download it, accept the terms and conditions, and that is when the fun begins.
Sugar and Spice is basically an adult version of truth or dare. The Hollanders find themselves communicating more and being more sexually adventurous. Abby begins using the app as an inspirational tool for writing her next book. The app starts pushing the envelope too far when it asks the question "Would you kill a total stranger to save someone you love?".
Abby and Brendan quickly learn that the app has fully infiltrated their lives and there is no way to get rid of it. Drawn into a dark web of intrigue they find themselves in a fight to get their lives back...but is it too late?
This book grabbed my attention from the first chapter and held it until the very end. The tension builds and builds and I enjoyed every minute of it. It also made me think about all the apps on my phone and what may be buried in the terms and conditions.
This was the first book I've read by J.D. Barker and I was thoroughly impressed. There is talk that the book is going to be made into a movie and I can't wait to see it. If you are looking for a fast paced, action packed thriller, this book is for you.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Hampton Creek Press for the advanced copy of this amazing book.

Behind A Closed Door begins with a therapy session. Abby and Brendan Hollander's marriage is in trouble. They decide to go to see a marriage counselor. When the first session ends, their therapist recommends that they download an app called Sugar and Spice to improve their sex life.
In the beginning, the app seems interested in only spicing their sex life but progressively the challenges take the young couple far out of their comfort zone and into a game where they are manipulated.
Although it was a fast-paced book with a good storyline, it could have been a bit shorter. I lost interest by the last quarter of it and struggled to finish it.

Brendan and Abby are having marital problems, so they book an appointment with a couple’s therapist. She recommends an app – Sugar and Spice – to bring adventure back into their romantic lives. A sexy version of truth or dare, it starts off innocently enough, but the app’s demands quickly go off the rails.
Would you kill for the one you love?
Behind a Closed Door takes a fun concept and gives it a sinister twist. Throughout the book, we primarily follow Brendan and Abby, but there are other characters who get POVs, including the mysterious Romeo and Juliet. Their scenes were fascinating to read, and I do wish we’d gotten more of the story written from their perspective.
As much as I wanted to love this book, it required a few suspensions of disbelief that were a little too out there. I’m not talking about anything that the app made them do, or all the drama that occurs later in the book. I found it incredibly difficult to believe Brendan, who is a professional working in investigation and security, would download this app in the first place. The red flags were flying high when the program required them to provide access to their microphones and cameras. They had to enable location services and tracking across other apps. The very first thing that the app does is book them a date at a restaurant that’s very difficult to get into, and covers the bill for them. Nothing is free. If an app doesn’t charge you money or make you watch ads, then you’re the commodity. It’s profiting off your data.
Brendan uses this phone for work, so even if he didn’t care about his own cybersecurity, he would know that his career could be on the line by compromising a device he uses for work.
There’s also something that the app does very early on in the book that didn’t sit right with me. Not because of what happens, but because of how the husband reacts. It was at that point that I knew for certain “JD” is a man, because a woman would never be so casual about SA in a book like this. If I were Brendan in this situation, I would have insisted we delete the app immediately.
Despite these plot holes/inconsistencies, the book was a fun read, with many great twists along the way.

This was a rollercoaster of a book! Abby and Brendan’s marriage has hit a rough patch, and their therapist recommends downloading an app to help bring them closer. At first, it seems to be helping, until things take a bad turn and finding out who or what is behind the app becomes crucial. I really enjoyed this book and, even though it’s long, read it rather quickly. I look forward to recommending near release day! Thanks for the opportunity to read!

Sometimes a book comes along that just ticks all the boxes. This is that book for me. It's clever, suspenseful, terrifying & intriguing. There's violence, there's spice. It fully captivated me.
If you are looking for a book that is going to draw you in and keep you there and maybe make you question your morals a little... a lot? This is the book for you!
Thank you to NetGalley & Hampton Creek Press for an advanced copy of this book.

Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️ what an app!!!
Multi faceted plot full of twists and dangerous scenarios. I’d certainly think twice about what apps I download.
Excellent fade paced thriller!!

Wow!! First 5 🌟 of the year for me!
JD Barker just never disappoints - this book was a wild, thrilling ride from start to finish. If you’re looking for an intense read, with lots of unexpected detours, you’ve come to the right place! Definitely recommend!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the advanced reader’s copy in exchange for my honest review!

Check trigger warnings! This one is action packed and dark, but didn't stop me from reading late into the night to finish. Suspense, romance, and made me question downloading apps on my phone!

This a little different to Mr Barkers previous books, not a bad thing, But it will definitely make you think before you download apps and automatically accept T & C’s.
The first half of this book really pulls you in, the second half has a lot of action but can be a little confusing with how the story is flowing. Some scenes leave you asking is this needed, where is this taking me? The ending was a little disappointing for me.
Overall, a book that plays with your emotions. I didn't enjoy it as much as I think I thought I might but has not put me off more of Mr Barkers books. So, 4 Stars from me.

Abby and Brendan’s marriage has hit a rough patch so they decide to do the logical thing and seek help from a marriage therapist. When at their first appointment, the therapist makes an odd recommendation, that they both download a new app called Sugar and Spice. This app will help them to strengthen their bond and in turn strengthen their relationship. At first when they download the app, it starts out pretty tame and makes them feel like it could actually be positively impacting their relationship. As time goes by, the app becomes more and more sinister. Who is in control of this app and what is the purpose of it? They must get to the bottom of the situation without putting themselves in danger.
This is the first book I’ve read by JD Barker and it p slower for me than the first. There were a good hundred or so pages that drug on and I felt like probably could’ve been removed from the book and it still would’ve had the same effect. Overall, it was a fun book that I enjoyed reading.

Thrilling. It’s not just all the action and these poor characters that always get pushed to the limit. This time Barker not only does what he wants with the reader, but also gives food for thought regarding the power we give to the internet without considering anything besides the immediate benefit
My only con point is the deus ex machina. But this is the first book in months that hooked me up and that’s great!
