A week before the presidential elections in the US a bomb goes off in an LA shopping mall. In London, armed police arrest Sajid Khan. His daughter Aliyah apparently entered the US with the suicide bomber of the LA mall bombing. Now she is missing, and suspected of potential involvement in planning further attacks.

Sajid can’t get his head around this, thinking his daughter is on a cultural trip in Japan with a friend. Then a woman called Carrie turns up at Sajid’s home, claiming that she believes Aliyah is with her son, Greg, and she believes that they can find them before the police do. If they manage that, their children will be safe.

Across in the US, Agent Shreya Mistry is close to tracking down the two fugitives on the run. But as she learns more, she starts to see that the case is not as simple as it seems. There is a far more sinister threat at hand, and she starts to unravel the threads to get to the centre of it, despite warnings from her boss to leave it be.

Carrie and Greg manage to make their way to the US and start to track down their children. Evading the authorities and racing to find Aliyah and Greg before the FBI do, they are desperate to save their children before they do anything they will regret, that will change, or even end, the lives of thousands of people forever.

This book was fast-paced from the start. The action starts and doesn’t let up and keeps the twists and turns going. There are a lot of leaps of logic, and it is very far-fetched at times, Sajid and Carrie having the skills to evade the FBI, Sajid being able to cross over into the US as he did while surely being on a watchlist from the UK etc. But if you put these points (and others) aside, and enjoy the non-stop fast pace, it is a real page-turner. The way it flicks between the different sets of characters, our frantic parents and the ever-on-the-ball Agent Mistry. The sense of urgency and need to move before disaster strikes comes through on every page and keeps you reading until the end.

The Hunted was not what I had expected atall!

It was a political thriller set in the USA following numerous different storylines. We meet the young people who have been recruited to cause destruction, the evil minds behind it and the parents travelling across the world to find their children.

The book flits between all of these plots seamlessly and it is all brought together in an explosive conclusion.

It took me a little while to get into, but it soon picked up the pace and was action-packed right through to the end.

I enjoyed the depth of the characters and found myself pulled into the story, invested in each character's journey.

My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.

Fast and furious! Loved it. Quite different to his other books but this was a frenetic thriller that I raced through.

This is a thriller in the literal sense, it is so thrilling! My heart was pounding as I raced towards the end of this book. There is so much action, so many twists and turns, it's a real page turner! Far fetched at times but a lot of fun to read!

We follow several characters after a bomb goes off in an American shopping mall. Special Agent Shreya Mistry was my favourite, I loved her chapters even if half the time she was being reprimanded and threatened with being shipped off to San Diego. I also loved the two parents desperately trying to track down their kids before the police found them.

The whole book has this urgency about it and the short chapters keep you addicted to reading it. I'm not usually an action book sort of person, especially with themes of terrorism and politics, but I'm really glad I read this one!

‘Hunted 💣’ by Abir Mukherjee

IN A RACE AGAINST TIME, WHAT IF THE GREATEST THREAT WAS YOUR OWN CHILD?

It’s a week before the presidential elections when a bomb goes off in an LA shopping mall…

In London, armed police storm Heathrow Airport and arrest Sajid Khan. His daughter Aliyah entered the USA with the suicide bomber, and now she’s missing, potentially plotting another attack.

But then a mysterious woman called Carrie turns up at Sajid’s door after travelling halfway across the world. She claims Aliyah is with her son Greg, and she knows where they could be.

Back in the US, Agent Shreya Mistry is closing in on the two fugitives. But the more she investigates, the more she realises this case is far from as simple as it seems.

Hunted by the authorities, the two parents are thrown together in a race against time to find their kids before the FBI does and stop a catastrophe that will bring the world to its knees.

An absolute pocket rocket of a book! An adrenaline fuelled roller coaster with twists and turns galore. My heart was in my mouth!

I loved how the story was told through various viewpoints and the writing style was incredibly descriptive so you could almost see exactly how the story unfolds. The short chapters enhanced the thrill.

The only thing that really bugged me was how the parents managed to outsmart the FBI and border control authorities. To me this was a bit far fetched, but the scary thing is that everything else that happened I could believe!

Totally different to the other types of genre I would normally read. However, it was very fast paced, with a lot of twists and turns that kept me hooked right to the end. Definitely worth reading.

Hunted is the first book I have read from Abir Mukherjee and knowing that his previous books are all historical crime fiction novels, I really wasn’t expecting such an explosive and tense storyline. It is a fascinating take on terrorism and radicalisation, seen from a slightly different viewpoint, the story is one that makes you really think about bias and racism and how things are interpreted in these situations.

What makes this particular story different is that this is all explored through the idea of family and how far you would go to protect or save loved ones. This more emotional side to the book really worked to balance out the high-octane nature of the ‘thriller’ parts of the story. Agent Mistry is a fantastic character and it was so refreshing to see a female protagonist in this type of role. She is just as determined and talented as her male colleagues and I loved the fact that she was willing to break the rules to follow her instincts throughout the investigation.

Abir Mukherjee's  wonderful historical mysteries set in India featuring the Sam Wyndham/ Bannerjee's duo are one of my favorite crime reads. But the man can also write nail biting, fast paced modern thrillers, as documented with  "Hunted".

Set in London and mostly the US, the novel has multiple story lines  eventually coming together in a fast paced climax. Two parents from very different cultures, Saijd and Carrie, are on a hunt to find their adult children Alijah and Greg before the FBI does, both having fallen under the spell of a charismatic terrorist group who are carrying out suicide bombings. Agent Shreya Mistry is closing in on the group,  trying to avoid a desaster.

My only negative is that the novel is so fast paced that it left me breathless at times.

Named thriller of the month by the Sunday Times , I am sure "Hunted" will be up for more prizes.

Throw a presidential election, a shopping mall bombing and the radicalisation of British Muslims into the mix, and you know you're in for a twisty, terrifying ride. This is the first book I've read by Mukherjee (I know, I know, how bad is that??) and I loved it!! It's everything you want in a thriller. Great characters, great plot, and a cracking ending. The only reason it dropped a star for me is I personally had trouble keeping up with all the different characters. I got a bit confused at times. On the whole though, a real smasher and one I'd highly recommend.

I enjoyed reading this book but wished the author had stayed with the Wyndham and Banerjee books set in the India Raj period. These were so distinctive as the author researched the period in a diligent way and it made the books so authentic. Whilst this latest book is written in a thrilling manner there are so many similar books that he has to compete with that he makes a rod for his back which is unnecessary as he had established himself as a historic mystery author of some prominence.

Very much enjoyed this. Does what it says on the tin. Personally prefer something with a little more action but the action in this book felt right for the story. Enjoyable, believable and a great bit of escapist-page-turner.

Such a good book. The further I got, the more I wanted to read. Twists and turns really kept me on my toes. A little disappointed with the ending as I did want to know what happened to all of the characters and I feel like that was missing.

Hunted by Abir Mukherjee is a top quality political thriller. Carefully plotted with plenty of twists and characters that I felt invested in.
When a bomb goes off in LA during a presidential election, and a terrorist organisation takes responsibility, the authorities have to act fast to stop further attacks. There are plenty of twists before the truth about the attacks is revealed.
Whilst being a great thriller it is also thought provoking with themes of terrorism, racism, false flags, dealt with in an accessible manner.
A top quality, fast paced thriller that I would highly recommend.

Hunted

First book by this author for me and won't be the last. A lot of current issues tackled in this political thriller. Told from different viewpoints it had me hooked. Fast paced and lots of twists. Great read and a new genre for me, going to look for more by this author.

This is the first of Abir Mukherjee's novels that I have read and I found it an exciting and pacey thriller. I often find books with multiple POVs difficult to follow, but this was not the case with Hunted that had unique and well written characters. A great storyline that kept me hooked the whole way through.

I was sent a digital copy of this book in return for an honest review.
I hadn’t come across this author, Abir Mukherjee, before. What an exciting book! Lots of non-stop action mixed with interesting characters and a story that flowed extremely well. I didn’t want to put my Kindle app down! I would definitely recommend this book if you like a fast-paced race against the clock type of story.

Stand by your beds! This is a lively one! Hooks you in right from the start with a worryingly 'real life' plot which then takes you on a rollercoaster of a ride through multiple plot twists and surprises. Fearless in how the story is told, with gritty depictions of radicalisation and the people who get caught up in other people's games. Well written and highly readable.

This is my first Murkerjee book despite knowing Abir for years and being a regular contributor on his brilliant PodCast with Vaseem Khan. Link here if you haven’t already listened to it or subscribed: Red Hot Chilli Writers on Apple Podcasts

For those who don’t know Abir Murkerjee, he’s the author of the very successful Sam Wyndham series about a former Scotland Yard detective who arrives in Calcutta desperately seeking a fresh start after his experiences during the Great War. There are currently 5 books in this series.

Back to Hunted. This is the authors first standalone novel and has been described by Lee Child as “A pretty much flawless thriller” and Sunday Times said “Hunted is a phenomenal achievement, with its sizeable cast of memorable characters, flawless juggling of multiple storylines, and a political dimension that makes it more than pacey entertainment”

I read this book together with my online book club last month. Normally we read psychological thrillers so this was the first action/political thriller for most of us and judging from the feedback of the other 80 members it definitely won’t be the last.

Set in present day UK and USA, the story starts with a bang (literally), when a bomb goes off in a LA shopping mall killing innocent victims including many women and children. Meanwhile in the UK, Sajid Khan is on his way to work at Heathrow Airport when armed police arrest him on suspicion of terrorism.

His daughter Aliyah had entered the USA with the suspected suicide bomber and is now missing. The intel suggests she’s involved and plotting another deadly attack and Agent Shreya Mistry is on the case.

The plot thickens when an American woman called Carrie turns up at Sajid’s home claiming her son Greg is also missing and she has good reason to believe their children are together and mixed up in the terrorist attacks.

The story then follows these two, very different, parents who team up to find and rescue their children in a frantic and dangerous race against time before another bomb is detonated.

As I mentioned before, I’m not normally a political thriller fan, but WOW Hunted kept me glued to my kindle and devouring each chapter to find out what, how, why and where. It’s highly topical with an excellent cast of believable and relatable characters. The tension is tight, the pace is fast and the action is non-stop.

If you are looking for a highly intelligent, thought-provoking action thriller, then I would strongly recommend HUNTED as your next read.
