What a beautiful and encouraging overview of breastfeeding around the world. I love how this book is empowering while also fully pushing mothers towards getting help on their breastfeeding journeys. This would be a great book to read for some moms before they have their first baby as a primer on breastfeeding. Others might find it overwhelming (I would have!). But as a mom currently breastfeeding my 19 month old, this book helped me feel my place in this global sisterhood of women who have been doing this for a very long time.
Thanks to Troubador for a copy for my review. All opinions are my own.
I think "A Celebration of Breastfeeding" by Ruth I Rusby, PhD is just that a celebration. I received my IBCLC,RLC in 1997. Since that time only a hand full of multi cultural books about breastfeeding are in publication. I myself have been blessed to teach hundreds of women from all over the globe how to breastfeed, so I especially enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend pregnant women and their support persons to read this book. It is best read at leisure, before or during pregnancy, but not as a "what do I do" after the baby is born. Some of the latch photos/drawings aren't the best examples. However I really like the warm and positive breastfeeding photos and support information. Overall I really like this book. I would love for millions to read it!
